Attacking the Green!: 2026 BMW Championship Stats Breakdown and Best Bets

Welcome back, golf fans. We are coming off a return-to-form performance for World #1 Scottie Scheffler in the opening playoff event at TPC Southwind last week. Scheffler sat three back after round one, then followed that up with a second-round 61 and never looked back as he won by eight strokes, securing his first win since January.

This week, the field has been reduced to the top 50 who will head to the BMW Championship, which is hosted at Bellerive Country Club this year. The last time the course has hosted an event was the 2018 PGA Championship and before that, the 2008 BMW Championship. The length between events here greatly reduces the weight of course history, putting much more emphasis on recent form and stats.

In this article, we will break down the course, look at the stats that best fit, and some players who will be a part of our betcard this week.

The Course: Bellerive Country Club

The BWM Championship rotates courses annually, with Bellerive last hosting it back in 2008 when Camilo Villegas won with a score of -15. There is some more recent history here as Bellerive also hosted the 2018 PGA Championship where Brooks Koepka (-16) beat Tiger Woods (-14) by two shots. One as a playoff event and one as a major, and even with 10 years in between them, nine players hit double digits under par in both events.

Bellerive is a long par-70 setup that stretches out to 7,448 yards on the initial scorecard. The par 3s are split with two at average length (170, 187) and two that are on the long side (215, 237). There are two par 4s under 400 yards, four in the 400-450 yard range, and six over 450 yards, including four at 489 yards or longer. Dial up those irons! The par 5s will also be challenging at 613 and 624 yards.

The weather can be a factor in the St. Louis area, so we will have to pay close attention to the forecast as we get closer to tee off on Thursday. As of now, it looks to be great weather with temps in the mid 70’s to mid 80’s and wind relatively low (<12 mph) for the full four days.

Stats & Trends That Matter: Finding the 2026 BMW Championship Winning Bets

Top Stats:

  • Strokes Gained: Off the Tee/Total Driving – Attacking Bellerive starts off the tee. Distance is definitely an advantage with the long par 3s and par 4s, but don’t discount accuracy. There is water, fairway bunkers, and landing areas that narrow as the distance becomes greater. A combination of both distance and accuracy is key, which is why I will look at the overall SG: Off the Tee
  • Strokes Gained: Approach – Approach is where players will be able to separate themselves the most this week. The greens are large (~7,500 sq ft average) and undulated which projects for a higher-than-average GIR rate. With that, overall SG: Approach and proximity stats will be what I am focusing on, especially the long iron proximity buckets
  • Birdie or Better % – With the weather looking relatively calm and a projected winning score around -15 to -18, I want players who are trending up in terms of making birdies
  • Strokes Gained: Putting – With large greens that should produce a higher-than-average GIR rate, scrambling is much lower on my list, but putting becomes very important and ties into the birdie or better stat as well. If you want to break it down even more, look at trends with putting on Bentgrass greens
  • Current Form – This is something I am always weighing, but a little more this week now that the playoffs are in full swing, with another 20 players being cut going into the Tour Championship. I will focus on players who are peaking at the right time!

Sam Burns (+1700 Outright / +270 Top 5 / +120 Top 10)

I dodged the to of the board last week, and while it burned me, I am going back to the same strategy again this week. I just can’t bet Scottie at +305 to win back-to-back playoff events. Instead, I will turn to Burns, who has arguably been the hottest player on tour recently. He finished 3rd in the opening playoff event last week and has six straight top-20 finishes, including four top-5s, all of which have come in big events (U.S. Open, Memorial, Open Championship, St. Jude). In this field, he ranks 2nd in SG: Ball Striking (25th OTT, 2nd App) over the last 20 rounds and is also 2nd in this field in putting for the season. While not very projectable, it is also nice to see that he has performed very well in the BMW Championship, finishing no worse than 19th in five appearances, including back-to-back top-5 finishes in 2025 and 2024.

Hideki Matsuyama (+2400 Outright / +360 Top 5 / +156 Top 10)

If you have been reading my weekly betting articles, you aren’t shocked to see Matsuyama on my betcard, as we have been riding the red-hot form for over a month now. Deki comes into the second playoff event with four straight top-10s and six straight finishes of 14th or better. During that stretch, he ranks 2nd in SG: Tee to Green, 9th in both SG: Off the Tee and Approach, and while the putter is hit-and-miss, he is 22nd in SG: Putting. He finished 35th here at the 2018 PGA Championship after an ugly Saturday 73 but shot under par in the other three rounds, including an impressive final-round 66. Once again, the secondary markets are my top bets with Deki, but I will also have a unit on the outright.

Adam Scott (+310 Top 10 / +110 Top 20)

I won’t be looking for a win from the 46-year-old vet, but I do like getting some action on him in the secondary markets. He has been consistent in 2026, making 15 of 17 cuts with two top-5s and three top-10 finishes. After a rough patch with two missed cuts and two finishes of 60th or worse in a five-tournament stretch, Scott has found some form late in the season with a T9 at the Open Championship and a T12 in last week’s first playoff event. The ball striking was excellent at the Open, and while the iron game wasn’t spectacular last week, the putter has been on fire. When it comes to that iron game, however, he is top 5 in this field in proximity from 175-200 and 200+ yards, which will be key this week. I like the top 10 and top 20 markets this week.
