Attacking the Green!: 2026 Genesis Scottish Open Stats Breakdown and Best Bets

Welcome back, golf fans. The PGA Tour heads abroad this week for the Genesis Scottish Open. The event has been played at The Renaissance Club since 2019 and has been a part of the PGA Tour schedule since 2022. With it coming just a week before the Open Championship, we usually get an elite field, and that is the case again in 2026. Seven of the top 10 and 33 of the top 50 players in the DataGolf World Rankings are teeing it up, including World #1 Scottie Scheffler and even Jon Rahm, who is playing through the DP World Tour.

In this article, we will look at the course, some stats and trends that matter, and go over a few bets that will be on my betcard this week.

The Course: The Renaissance Club

The Renaissance Club isn’t your standard Par 70 setup as there are five par 3’s, 10 par 4’s, and three par 5’s. Long irons will be key as three of the par 3’s are over 200 yards and five of the par 4s are over 480 yards. The links course is a little more modern than most that we see, as there are a ton of trees across the property. It is still very susceptible to the weather, which is constantly changing, and will be a focus of the research as we get closer to lock and during the event in relation to live betting. As with most links-style courses, the winning scores have varied, with a low of -22 back in 2019 and a high of -7 in 2022, the first year this event was co-sanctioned.

With narrow fairways, the average driving accuracy is way down in the low 50% range, but with somewhat forgiving rough, the GIR rate sits right around the PGA Tour average (65%). This puts emphasis on iron play, and as I mentioned above, there should be a large number of long iron approaches this week.

Stats & Trends That Matter: Finding the 2026 Genesis Scottish Open Champion

Top Stats:

  • Strokes Gained: Approach – A lower driving accuracy average hasn’t affected the GIR rate, so an all-around iron game is needed this week.
  • Long Iron Proximity – With two long par 3s and five long par 4s, there will be a higher-than-average amount of long iron approaches, so I will look at the 175-200 and 200+ yard buckets this week.
  • Course History – We now have four years of sample size of this event as a co-sanctioned PGA Tour/DP World Tour tournament and seven total years where it has been played the week before the Open. This is more than enough to help draw some conclusions on who “should” perform well this week
  • Links/Course Comp Form – I am using Betsperts Golf to look at comp courses for the Links Style form. This includes previous Open Championships, the Scottish Open, and a few American courses in Memorial Park Golf Course, Los Angeles Country Club, Erin Hills, and Shinnecock Hills, which was just used for the U.S. Open.

Rory McIlroy (+1000)

The odds tell us it’s Scottie vs. Rory at the top, and I lean McIlroy here for a couple of reasons. First of all, Rory has been overseas for over a week practicing links-style setups, which seems to be his preferred route ahead of the Scottish Open and Open Championship. It has paid off in the past as he returns to the Renaissance Club with an excellent course history, finishing runner-up last year, 4th in 2024, and winning this event in 2023. I like the outright bet with Rory here and will also bet him in a head-to-head matchup vs. Scottie.

Wyndham Clark (+3200 Outright / +550 Top 5 / +270 Top 10)

Going down the board, we find Clark, who checks almost every single box this week, starting with the fact that he is arguably the hottest player in the world over the last 4-6 weeks. Over his last five events, he has two wins, including a second U.S. Open and has not finished worse than 11th during that stretch. In that time, he ranks 3rd in SG: Tee to Green, 16th in SG: Approach, 1st in SG Short Game, and 1st in Birdie or Better %. He also checks the course history box, finishing 25th or better in all four trips to The Renaissance Club. I like the outright as well as top-5 and top-10 bets this week.

Tom Kim (+540 Top 10 / +240 Top 20)

After a breakout in 2023, where he tallied two wins and nine top 10s, Kim fell off the map with just three top 10s over the next two seasons. The good news is that he is trending back up in 2026, making 14 of his first 16 cuts and playing some of his best golf recently with two top 10s and three top 15 finishes in his last six events. He is 5th in my custom model, looking at the last 20 rounds, ranking 16th in SG: Tee to Green, 2nd in SG: Approach, and is 10th in my model, looking at links style/comp courses. I don’t think he is ready to win again just yet, but I wouldn’t blame you if you got action on the outright. My favourite bets are the top 10 and top 20 markets this week.
