Fantasy EPL Gameweek 34 Sleepers XI
For this article, we use the ownership statistics from Fantrax. Our only rule is that each player we highlight is required to have ownership of 60% or below at the time of writing. Therefore there’s a good chance these players will be free agents in your Fantrax Draft League!
GK: Ben Foster
Team: Watford
Opponent: Norwich City (Home)
Ownership: 50%
Points Last Gameweek: 6.25
Prospects: Backing players who are up against bottom of the league Norwich is becoming a bit of a theme in our Sleeepers XI. The Canaries haven’t scored a goal since the Premier League restart, and we successfully backed Brighton’s Mat Ryan in this slot for Gameweek 33. For our Gameweek 34 Sleepers XI, it is therefore Ben Foster that gets the nod in goal. The veteran shot-stopper has been in mixed form the last few weeks but did manage to gain 6.25 points during Watford’s 3-0 loss to Chelsea last time around. Foster is unlikely to gain many save points against Norwich, but he is likely to secure a clean sheet. Foster is the obvious choice for our Gameweek 34 goalkeeper.
GW34 Points Scored: 2.25
DEF: Kieran Tierney
Team: Arsenal
Opponent: Leicester City (Home)
Ownership: 41%
Points Last Gameweek: 13.25
Prospects: Kieran Tierney has been on really great form the last few games, as he’s three consecutive recorded double-digit scores! The Scottish left-back also missed out on his clean sheet points in Gameweek 33, after being withdrawn in the 56th minute. Tierney is a really talented footballer, but he’s struggled with injuries ever since joining The Gunners. He now looks to have finally found his feet and has been really comfortable playing in a left wing-back role in recent games. We’re not entirely sure why Tierney was subbed off early last game – there have been no reports of an injury, so hopefully, this was simply a tactical decision by Arteta. Arsenal host Leicester in Gameweek 34, which should be an entertaining game.
GW34 Points Scored: 4.5
DEF: Kurt Zouma
Team: Chelsea
Opponent: Crystal Palace (Away)
Ownership: 32%
Points Last Gameweek: 16.75
Prospects: Kurt Zouma came into the Chelsea side for the 3-0 victory over Watford and played really well for Lampard’s side. The Frenchman gained 16.75 points, and filled out his stat sheet with six aerials, three clearances, and two interceptions, to go alongside his clean sheet. After such a good performance from Zouma, we expect him to remain in the side for the trip to Crystal Palace on Tuesday night. Here, Zouma will be up against Christian Benteke, and will, therefore, have plenty of opportunities to gain points from aerial duels! Zouma is one of the marque additions to our Gameweek 34 Sleepers XI. Sign him up if you can!
GW34 Points Scored: 8.5
DEF: Eric Bailly
Team: Manchester United
Opponent: Aston Villa (Away)
Ownership: 7%
Points Last Gameweek: 0.25
Prospects: With Victor Lindelof an early doubt for Manchester United’s trip to Villa Park, we’re taking the opportunity to back Eric Bailly. Lindelof was withdrawn at half time as a precaution during the 5-2 victory over Bournemouth, with Bailly coming on to fill in. If the Swedish international is indeed ruled out, Bailly looks set to deputize from the off against Aston Villa. Therefore, the Ivorian defender looks to be a solid addition to our Gameweek 34 Sleepers XI! Manchester United are on really terrific form right now, so Fantrax managers should be jumping at the chance to bring in a potential starter from Solskjaer’s exciting side.
GW34 Points Scored: 0
MID: Tomas Soucek
Team: West Ham United
Opponent: Burnley (Home)
Ownership: 20%
Points Last Gameweek: 20
Prospects: We successfully backed Tomas Soucek in our Reserve XI for Gameweek 33, as the Czech midfielder scored for the second consecutive Premier League game. So this week we’re upgrading him to our full Gameweek 34 Sleepers XI! Soucek is playing really well at the moment and has gained scores of 21 and 20 points in his last two outings. West Ham has looked a lot better the last couple of games, and are now embarking on a really nice run of fixtures. If Soucek is a free agent in your Fantrax League, we highly recommend signing him. The combative midfielder is likely to start every game for West Ham as they battle against relegation.
GW34 Points Scored: 13.5
MID: Stuart Armstrong
Team: Southampton
Opponent: Everton (Away)
Ownership: 38%
Points Last Gameweek: 19.5
Prospects: We’ve said this many times this season already, but we’re massive Stuart Armstrong fans. The Scottish midfielder makes a return to our Sleepers XI for Gameweek 34, after a really impressive performance against Manchester City on Sunday. Armstrong provided the assist for Che Adams and generally played really well. The midfielder gave an energetic display in the Southampton midfield, playing really well in a defensive role, but with the ability to counter-attack when required. Southampton faces a trip to Everton in Gameweek 34, and confidence will be sky high after such an impressive outing last time around. Seriously, Armstrong needs to be owned in all Fantrax Leagues, and we would recommend trying to trade him into your roster if he’s already taken.
GW34 Points Scored: 12
MID: Ross Barkley
Team: Chelsea
Opponent: Crystal Palace (Away)
Ownership: 59%
Points Last Gameweek: 23
Prospects: Another Chelsea player who performed really well in Gameweek 33 was Ross Barkley. The Englishman has actually started the last three games for The Blues and bagged a goal and an assist during the 3-0 victory over Watford. We’re therefore backing Barkley to start, and perform well, against Crystal Palace in Gameweek 34. The midfielder is a frustrating player to own on Fantrax, but he’s worth keeping in your roster, and slotting into your starting eleven when he does start. Barkley has explosive potential, and we could see another double-digit return in Gameweek 34.
GW34 Points Scored: 2
MID: Will Hughes
Team: Watford
Opponent: Norwich City (Home)
Ownership: 18%
Points Last Gameweek: 12.5
Prospects: Will Hughes is a player that we’ve been backing on and off this season. The Watford man is now settled at Watford and has established himself as a key figure in Pearson’s midfield. Hughes takes his share of set pieces and is surprisingly good in a defensive midfield role. However, the Englishman’s points scoring sometimes leaves a lot to be desired! Hughes did tally a really impressive 12.5 points in the 3-0 loss to Chelsea, after gaining five successful tackles and four interceptions, and therefore we can’t help but back him again. Gameweek 34 sees The Hornets face struggling Norwich City, and we’re expecting Hughes to be able to dominate the central midfield areas, as well as lay on a few chances for his teammates.
GW34 Points Scored: 4
MID: Sander Berge
Team: Sheffield United
Opponent: Wolves (Home)
Ownership: 22%
Points Last Gameweek: 8
Prospects: Sander Berge scored a respectable eight points during the 1-1 draw with Burnley in Gameweek 33, after a really impressive display against Tottenham in Gameweek 34. With John Fleck and John Lundstram set to miss the next couple of games through injury, Berge will start for Sheffield United for the foreseeable future. If you’re in need of a certain starter in midfield, who has a decent points floor, then the Norwegian international is a good option. Berge’s Sheffield United side faces Champions League-chasing Wolves in Gameweek 34 in what should be a close game.
GW34 Points Scored: 5
FWD: Che Adams
Team: Southampton
Opponent: Everton (Away)
Ownership: 9%
Points Last Gameweek: 14.5
Prospects: We just had to include Che Adams in our Gameweek 34 Sleepers XI! The Southampton striker has had a really rough time since joining the club from Birmingham City, but he made up for it on Sunday evening as he scored the winning goal against Manchester City!! The Saints won the game 1-0, and Adams’ goal was courtesy of a long-range lob of goalkeeper Ederson after Armstrong had robbed Zinchenko of possession. Adams is worth a waiver wire claim this week, ahead of Southampton’s trip to Everton. Could this finally be his time to shine?!
GW34 Points Scored: 4
FWD: Jay Rodriguez
Team: Burnley
Opponent: West Ham (Away)
Ownership: 16%
Points Last Gameweek: 13.5
Prospects: Burnley forward Jay Rodriguez made his return to the side in Gameweek 33, and rewarded any Fantrax managers that took a punt on him. The Englishman provided the assist for James Tarkowski’s goal and made it two consecutive double-figure hauls. Rodriguez is growing with influence at Burnley and is likely to have Chris Wood alongside him for the Gameweek 34 trip to West Ham. Burnley does have a fairly hard fixture schedule coming up, but if you’re in need of a forward then Rodriguez is a decent option. The Burnley man is a worthy addition to our Gameweek 34 Sleepers XI!
