For this article, we use the ownership statistics from Fantrax. Our only rule is that each player we highlight is required to have ownership of 60% or below at the time of writing. Therefore there’s a good chance these players will be free agents in your Fantrax Draft League!
GK: Sam Johnstone
Team: West Bromwich Albion
Opponent: Fulham (Away)
Ownership: 34%
Points Last Gameweek: 4.25
Prospects: Sam Johnstone came in at the third position in our GK Rankings over on Twitter, after a pretty productive start to the season. Our rankings are based on the ratio of saves being made against goals conceded. The idea being that a goalkeeper needs to be making a high number of saves, and concede as little goals as possible. This sounds pretty simple, but the important fact is that Fantrax managers shouldn’t be chasing clean sheets when looking at goalkeeper options. That’s a tricky tactic to get correct. Alisson and Ederson play for very good sides, but this works against them as they end up with a small number of saves to make.
Instead, Fantrax managers need to be looking for goalkeepers from sides that concede a lot of shots (so that they can make those all-important saves), but concede a small number of goals. A goalkeeper that makes five or six saves and concedes one or two goals is going to score better than a goalkeeper that makes one save and concedes one goal. This is why players such as Johnstone, Martinez, and Darlow are at the top of our GK Rankings at the moment. West Brom face a trip to Fulham this weekend, and I expect Johnstone to concede a goal or two, but also make a fair few saves to give him a solid points base.
DEF: Wesley Fofana
Team: Leicester City
Opponent: Leeds United (Home)
Ownership: 40%
Points Last Gameweek: 8
Prospects: Wesley Fofana has been featured fairly heavily across Fantrax HQ after the recent injury to Leicester colleague Soyuncu. The young Frenchman has played two games and scored nearly 20 points. His Gameweek 6 performance of 8 points was fairly average considering the Foxes gained a clean sheet, but he did receive a yellow card to take his score down to single digits. I like Fofana as a solid DEF3 who can be started most weeks. This weekend Leicester face a Leeds side who score a fair few goals, but I’m still backing Fofana to gain a decent score.
DEF: Jan Bednarek
Team: Southampton
Opponent: Aston Villa (Away)
Ownership: 27%
Points Last Gameweek: 11.25
Prospects: Southampton have gained three clean sheets in their last four games, and Jan Bednarek has been integral to this. The Polish center-back is developing a really good partnership with Vestergaard, and they are both turning into really solid Fantrax assets. Bednarek fills out his stats sheet with a mixture of aerials, clearances and interceptions, and is well worth adding to your roster. The Saints face a trip to high-flying Aston Villa, but confidence will be high after beating Everton last time around. Bednarek is a solid addition to my Gameweek 7 Sleepers XI, and also featured in Genie’s Waiver Wire Targets this week.
DEF: Darnell Furlong
Team: West Bromwich Albion
Opponent: Fulham (Away)
Ownership: 12%
Points Last Gameweek: 5.75
Prospects: I don’t know much about Darnell Furlong, other than he scores pretty well on Fantrax, and he’s the son of 90’s footballer Paul Furlong. But that’s enough for me to include him in the Gameweek 7 Sleepers XI! The Baggies face fellow strugglers Fulham this weekend, and Furlong could gain a really decent score. The young right-back generally fills out his stats sheet with a mixture of defensive and attacking contributions. Which is great news for Fantrax managers. The game against Fulham should be fairly open, which should provide Furlong with plenty of opportunities to gain points!
DEF: Antonee Robinson
Team: Fulham
Opponent: West Bromwich Albion (Home)
Ownership: 9%
Points Last Gameweek: 10.25
Prospects: And speaking of that game being fairly open, welcome to the Gameweek 7 Sleepers XI Antonee Robinson! The Fulham left-back makes his debut in my side after some really strong showings the last couple of weeks. Robinson looks to have ousted Bryan from the side for the time being, and this needs to be taken advantage of. The American international has averaged 8.5 PPG despite conceding goals in every game he’s featured in. Robinson provided four key passes and four accurate crosses last weekend against Crystal Palace en-route to a score of 10.25.
Robinson, once linked with Italian giants AC Milan, will be given license to roam forward this weekend against West Brom as Fulham search for their first win of the season. If you’re looking for a high-risk high-reward kind of punt this weekend, then I highly recommend taking a look at Robinson.
MID: Stuart Armstrong
Team: Southampton
Opponent: Aston Villa (Away)
Ownership: 52%
Points Last Gameweek: 6.5
Prospects: I feel like I’m always going on about Stuart Armstrong, so I’ll keep this one brief. Keep faith in good footballers. Don’t drop players who start the season poorly due to injury/fitness issues. They will come good. And they will become good Fantrax assets. Armstrong gained 14.5 points in Gameweek 4, but missed the subsequent game through injury/illness. The Scotsman returned to the Southampton side in Gameweek 6 and gained a solid 6.5 points during the 2-0 victory over high-flying Everton.
This weekend the Saints travel to Aston Villa, and I’m backing Armstrong to start once again and earn another decent points score. Southampton are playing well and look set for a top half of the table finish!
MID: Ruben Loftus-Cheek
Team: Fulham
Opponent: West Bromwich Albion (Home)
Ownership: 43%
Points Last Gameweek: 1.5
Prospects: I backed Ruben Loftus-Cheek last week, and he did not have a good outing. The Chelsea loanee gained a really poor score of 1.5 points during his 73 minutes of action. Teammate Tom Cairney was the Fulham midfielder to take home the plaudits and the points. Cairney features in the Reserve XI section of my Gameweek 7 Sleepers.
So why am I backing Loftus-Cheek again? Because he’s a great asset to own longer-term. The Englishman will finish the season in the Top 100 players, and could potentially rise as high as 60th or 70th overall if he can maintain his fitness. This weekend Fulham face fellow Premier League new boys West Brom, and I’m backing Loftus-Cheek to remain in the side, and get back on form!
MID: Jeffrey Schlupp
Team: Crystal Palace
Opponent: Wolves (Away)
Ownership: 37%
Points Last Gameweek: 7
Prospects: I picked up Jeffrey Schlupp after the Gameweek 5 lineups were announced, and I couldn’t be happier with him in my Community League roster. I selected the Ghanaian midfielder last week, and he makes the cut again for my Gameweek 7 Sleepers XI! The Crystal Palace man looks set to continue in the Eagles’ side for the time being, whilst Eze gets up to speed with the Premier League. Schlupp has gained scores of 9.5 points and 7 points during his last two outings and is obviously a trusted Hodgson asset. A solid player for any Fantrax roster!
MID: Jacob Murphy
Team: Newcastle United
Opponent: Everton (Home)
Ownership: 3%
Points Last Gameweek: 18.5
Prospects: And the midfield punt to make my Gameweek 7 Sleepers XI is Jacob Murphy. The Newcastle midfielder has had a tough time in Tyneside after his move from Norwich City back in 2017, but now may be his time to shine. Murphy started and scored during the 1-1 draw with Wolves last weekend, and therefore looks set to start once again. With Shelvey out injured, the 25-year-old winger will be on set-piece duty too! Newcastle faces Everton this weekend, and Murphy is a nice little punt in 12 team Fantrax leagues.
FWD: Sebastien Haller
Team: West Ham United
Opponent: Liverpool (Away)
Ownership: 36%
Points Last Gameweek: 1.5
Prospects: Sebastien Romain Teddy Haller!!! Will he finally be given a chance in the Premier League?! I’m a huge fan of the Frenchman as a Fantasy EPL asset, and very excited to be featuring him in a positive light on Fantrax HQ! A chance for Haller in the Premier League does unfortunately come at a price though, as Michail Antonio seems to have suffered his inevitable injury. Hopefully, it’s not a bad one, as Antonio has been in the form of his life and West Ham needs his energy in the side!
But back to my boy Haller. The Auxerre academy graduate performed incredibly well during his League Cup outings earlier in the season, as he scored 4 goals in 3 games. This wasn’t enough to reward him with a Premier League start, however, as Moyes stuck with Fornals on the wing and Antonio as the central striker. Last season Haller averaged nearly 10 PPG and won the most aerial duels among forwards, despite missing large portions of the season. West Ham faces an injury-ravaged Liverpool backline this weekend, and Haller is well worth inclusion in my Gameweek 7 Sleepers XI. All aboard the Haller-Copter!
FWD: Karlan Grant
Team: West Bromwich Albion
Opponent: Fulham (Away)
Ownership: 12%
Points Last Gameweek: 13.5
Prospects: Rounding off my Gameweek 7 Sleepers XI is West Bromwich Albion forward Karlan Grant. The Englishman was signed from Huddersfield at the end of the domestic transfer window for around £15 million and has already started two games for The Baggies. It does look as though Grant is going to be fairly goal dependent after scores of 2.5 points (without a goal) and 13.5 points (with a goal). But he’s still a good asset. Grant is pretty much the only option for Billic as the central striker, so he will start every game, and he does have a good goal scoring record.
Grant scored 23 goals in 57 games for Huddersfield, and could easily gain a double-figure goal scoring haul this season. I picked him up for $0 in the Fantrax Community League, and I’ll be happy to plug him into the starting eleven when West Brom has a winnable fixture. Like this weekend when Grant will be up against struggling Fulham!
