Fantasy Hockey Playoff Sleepers

Jimmy Snuggerud – St. Louis Blues

Despite the disappointing season they’ve had so far, the Blues have been impressive since the Olympic break, and Jimmy Snuggerud deserves credit for their success. Through the first five games of the month, Snuggerud collected eight points while being a +6 on St. Louis’ first line. Additionally, the 21-year-old isn’t afraid to throw the body, having been a consistent hitter all season. For managers looking for a physical winger, Snuggerud can provide the explosive offense needed to claim victory in the playoffs.

Alexis Lafreniere – New York Rangers

Similar to the Blues, the Rangers have been playing well as of late despite being one of the league’s worst teams, and it has allowed Alexis Lafreniere to excel in New York’s top six. Throughout the first ten days of March, Lafreniere recorded nine points, with his hat-trick against the Calgary Flames being his best game of the year. Although the young forward doesn’t contribute much peripheral value, he’s an elite scorer who can be an immediate improvement in offensive categories down the stretch.

Bowen Byram – Buffalo Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres are the hottest team in the NHL right now, and it’s not just their forward group adding to the offense. Along with defensemen like Rasmus Dahlin and Mattias Samuelsson, Bowen Byram has been productive as of late. Following the Olympic break, Byram put together a three-game point streak, and just recently tallied three assists in Buffalo’s massive 8-7 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Byram is also starting to perform on Buffalo’s second power-play unit and should be considered for a roster spot if managers have room for him.

Going forward, it’s best to add players who consistently recorded points or have been reliable in several peripheral categories over the past two weeks, instead of hoping others with name value can turn things around. Make sure to return next week for more fantasy hockey playoff advice.
