Week 8 NFL DFS Late Slate Picks

Quarterbacks

Geno Smith, Las Vegas Raiders

Yes, we’re talking about Geno Smith, that Geno, the one who hasn’t cracked 10 fantasy points in three straight games. But before you write him off, look at the matchups he just faced — all formidable defenses. Now he gets a much softer landing spot against the Jaguars, who give up the fifth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks. Opposing QBs are averaging 254 yards and two touchdowns per game against them. This is the perfect spot for Geno to get right.

Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

In the past three games, Patrick has passed for over 250 yards and three touchdowns in every game. It is a hot streak for sure. This week’s game against the Bills has the highest over-under on the slate at 52.5. He should be passing a lot since the Chiefs’ run game is not so good.

Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams

Stafford is coming off the bye week, so you know he will be both rested and well prepared to play the Saints in Week 9. In his last game in Week 7, he passed for five touchdowns. Yes, Five! I like Stafford to keep it going in Week 9 against the Saints.

Running Backs

Kareem Hunt, Kansas City Chiefs

It looks like Isaiah Pacheco will miss Week 9, and the Chiefs draw the Bills, who surprisingly struggle against the run, allowing the sixth-most fantasy points to opposing RBs. Kareem Hunt has handled short-yardage and goal-line work all season and found the end zone twice in Week 8. Don’t expect fireworks, but the volume and red-zone usage should be there. Hunt’s a solid plug-and-play option with touchdown upside in Week 9.

$4,700 on DraftKings
$5,900 on FanDuel

Kyren Williams, Los Angeles Rams

Williams seems to get between 15 to 20 touches per game. If the volume is there in Week 9, the production will be there as well. The Saints do not defend the run exceptionally well. This season, Kyren has been very solid with double-digit fantasy scores in four out of seven. He has not scored fewer than seven fantasy points in any game this season—high floor guy.

James Cook, Buffalo Bills

In five out of seven games played this season, James Cook scored over 18 fantasy points. Last week, he went nuts for 216 yards and two touchdowns. The running should be tougher this week against the Chiefs, but Cook can get it done. James is cooking in Week 9.

Brashard Smith, Kansas City Chiefs

We know Pacheco will be out. This could present an opportunity for Smith in Week 9. Smith has proven helpful in the passing game when given the chance. If this game turns into a shootout, there is upside here to plug in Smith and see what his upside is. It also allows you to pay down in one spot and pay up on others.

Wide Receivers

Travis Hunter, Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars promised to get Hunter more involved before Week 7 — and for once, it wasn’t just coach talk. He saw 14 targets, turning them into eight catches for 101 yards and a touchdown, commanding a massive 29% target share. Now, coming off the bye, he faces the Raiders, who allow the third-most fantasy points to wide receivers. Everything lines up for Hunter to stay hot in Week 9; expect him to keep hunting.

Jakobi Meyers, Las Vegas Raiders

Meyers will be back on the field in Week 9 for the Raiders. He will be playing against the Jaguars, who give up the eighth most fantasy points to opposing teams’ wide receivers. Jakobi has not been especially good this season. But he is on the trading block and maybe, just maybe, the Raiders will want to showcase him in a nice match-up.

$5,400 on FanDuel

Rashee Rice, Kansas City Chiefs

Has there been a hotter player in the NFL in the last two weeks? In two games, Rice has 19 targets, 16 receptions, 135 yards, and three touchdowns. He is on fire. The Bills’ defense is good, but Rice is an absolute stud. The volume will be there, which means the production will follow.

$7,600 on DraftKings
$8,200 on FanDuel

Chris Olave, New Orleans Saints

Olave is second in the league in targets, with 83. So, you know there will be an opportunity. The Saints play the Rams and will need to throw the ball to stay in the game. I see Olave getting his usual 10 targets and producing a high-floor game in Week 9.

$6,100 on DraftKings
$7,100 on FanDuel

Puka Nacua, Los Angeles, Rams

It appears Puka will be back from his injury in Week 9. The Saints are good at defending wide receivers, but Puka should have his usual double-digit target volume. If Puka is playing, I like to play him. Pay down elsewhere.

$9,500 on FanDuel

Tight Ends

Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints

In the last two games, Johnson has had five receptions in each game and at least 53 yards. He also saw 15 targets combined from those two games. He should continue to see 7 targets or so and produce a nice floor in Week 9 against the Rams.

$3,200 on DraftKings
$5,100 on FanDuel

Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs

Kelce has produced well in three out of the last four games. With Rice back, it should open some things up for him in Week 9 against the Bills. But buyers beware, the Bills defend the tight end position well. Kelce could be a great play or a bust in Week 9.

DEF

Los Angeles Rams

The Rams take on the Saints in Week 9, and things are lining up nicely for L.A.’s defense. The Saints are turning to rookie Tyler Shough at quarterback — and that’s a tough spot against a Rams unit that’s racked up 11 sacks in their last two games. New Orleans has struggled to move the ball and has been prone to turnover lately. This matchup screams opportunity; expect the Rams’ defense to stay hot and roll in Week 9.
