NHL Injury Report for February 4:
Jack Hughes, New Jersey Devils
Devils Announce Positive Jack Hughes Injury Update Before Senators Game https://t.co/l39OptJAAW
— Athlon Sports (@AthlonSports) January 31, 2026
At least this injury doesn’t appear to be serious. He’s missed two games already, and it remains to be seen if he’ll be back for Thursday’s game against the New York Islanders.
Hughes is set to represent the United States at the Olympics next week. Expect him to be cleared to play in that tournament. Owners should cross their fingers that he doesn’t suffer a larger injury in Italy and miss the stretch.
In his absence, expect Nico Hischier and Dawson Mercer to move up the depth chart.
Brad Marchand, Florida Panthers

A regular jersey usually means a line-up return is imminent. Expect Marchand to play on Wednesday against Boston. It’s hard to imagine an injury scenario that would keep Marchand out of a game against his old team.
Expect him to resume a top-six, first power-play role.
Sam Bennett, Florida Panthers
Panthers center Sam Bennett left Monday’s loss to the Sabres with an injury. Florida coach Paul Maurice said he was unsure if Bennett would play vs. the Bruins on Wednesday. https://t.co/0KctNKZZNJ
— South Florida Sun Sentinel (@SunSentinel) February 3, 2026
Bennett left Sunday’s game after just 5:11 of ice time. With the announcement yesterday that he is replacing the injured Anthony Cirelli, Tampa Bay Lightning, on Team Canada at the Olympics, the injury does not appear to be serious.
Playing today is a long shot. That said, barring a setback during the Olympics, he should be ready to go when the NHL resumes games, February 25th.
Logan Thompson, Washington Capitals
Capitals’ Charlie Lindgren out through Olympic break with injury that’s “not long-term” https://t.co/0BcCGODEsn
— Daily Faceoff (@DailyFaceoff) February 2, 2026
Thompson is scheduled to play the Capitals’ final game before the Olympic break on Thursday versus the Nashville Predators. This is good news as the Caps were already down Charlie Lindgren, who is out for the long term.
Clay Stephenson has started playing in the last three games for the Capitals, losing the second half of a back-to-back last night, 4-2, against the Philadelphia Flyers. He will continue to serve as Thompson’s backup until Lindgren returns.
Victor Hedman, Tampa Bay Lightning
Hedman expected to return from elbow injury for Lightning at Stadium Serieshttps://t.co/upXSf5yp9h
— Brian Compton (@BComptonNHL) January 31, 2026
Hedman did not return as one would normally expect. In his first game back, he played just 10:18. A far cry from his season average of 20:23. Last night, Hedman played 17:39.
One important note: Darren Raddysh remains on Tampa’s top power play unit. There’s no way Jon Cooper can remove him. After all, Raddysh is up to 17 goals and 51 points in 48 games.
It is often said that a player can’t lose their job due to injury. Well, I think we’re seeing one of the few times they can. Raddysh has turned into an offensive juggernaut. He produced 24 points in the 20 games Hedman missed. In the two games since Hedman’s return, he’s produced four more.
That will do it for Fantrax’s NHL injury report for February 4.
