Week 2 MOP (Minus One Play) Rankings

It is time to take one final look at Week 2 before we begin evaluating our Week 3 prospects. I do that with my Week 2 MOP rankings, which remove everyone’s highest fantasy-scoring play to help determine which players can repeat last week’s performances and which cannot. Spoiler alert – don’t go adding Ryan Miller. We want players who get touches and targets, and MOP rankings are a good way to filter some of that volume. As always, I am only including Flex players (running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends) in my MOP rankings. These rankings are based on Half-PPR scoring, so adjust as needed for your league settings.

Week 2 MOP Rankings

Running Back Takeaways

Emanuel Wilson carried the ball 21 times in Seattle’s blowout victory in Arizona. Jadarian Price was leading the way before suffering an injury and ceding work to Wilson. Price is still the preferred option in the Seahawks backfield, and I expect that the rookie will be fine for next week. But Wilson at least looks to have surpassed George Holani in the Seahawks backfield pecking order. Seattle proved last year it can support multiple fantasy running backs, so Wilson is a recommended waiver-wire add. He is rostered in just 23 percent of Fantrax leagues.

Raise your hand if you expected Alvin Kamara to have more carries and more receptions than Travis Etienne Jr. in Week 2. Put your hand down, you dirty liar! Etienne did have a touchdown negated and was on the field for more snaps than Kamara. Still, you have to be at least a little concerned if you invested an early pick in Etienne. The good news for those with Etienne is that Kamara did almost nothing with his touches. Kamara had nine carries and five receptions and totaled just 22 yards, as neither he nor Etienne finished as top-24 fantasy backs in either regular rankings or MOP rankings. Etienne is no longer a must-start against what looks to be an improved Las Vegas Raiders defense. I still won’t start Kamara anywhere outside of deep PPR leagues.

Wide Receiver Takeaways

Rashod Bateman and Keon Coleman were among the wide receivers who benefited most from increased opportunities due to injuries. Bateman was an WR1 in 12-team leagues in both traditional scoring and in the Week 2 MOP rankings. It would be nice to see him perform consistently alongside Zay Flowers in the lineup. Flowers is reportedly on track to play in Week 3. Bateman’s ranking will likely depend on whether or not Flowers suits up. Coleman has looked like a legitimate NFL receiver through two weeks. He has caught all seven of his targets this season. I am not ready to start him quite yet. But if the wide receiver injury bug has hit you, Coleman makes for an intriguing add. He is available in 70 percent of Fantrax leagues.

Matthew Golden and Jalen Coker may not have scored in Week 2, but the arrows are firmly pointing up for their fantasy value. The two are tied for seventh among wide receivers with 18 targets through two games. Golden has a very favorable upcoming schedule and could see a slight bump in his target share with Jayden Reed out. Coker has caught 16 of his 18 targets, as his connection with Bryce Young continues to improve. The Panthers have played two subpar defenses so far, so it is hard to buy into Young suddenly becoming a productive passer. However, it is also tough to ignore that Carolina’s offense has looked much crisper than in years past. For now, both players project as high-upside WR3s for the immediate future.

Tight End Takeaways

Sometimes the best ability is availability. That could be the case with Oronde Gadsden II in Los Angeles. Gadsden is currently third among Chargers tight ends in total snaps, but that will not last much longer. The Chargers placed both David Njoku and Charlie Kolar on Injured Reserve this week. That puts Gadsden front and center in a good Week 3 matchup against the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo has allowed 62 total points, while starting tight ends have averaged five receptions and nearly 50 yards against them. Meanwhile, the Chargers offense has looked rough, losing home games to Arizona and Las Vegas by identical 26-14 scores. Gadsden could be worth streaming depending on the other tight ends on your roster.
