Week 2 Start and Sits: Quarterbacks and Running Backs

Week 1 is officially in the books, and either you landed in the win column or took a loss. Don’t worry, as the first week is always a trial period and there is a lot of the season left. As we move into Week 2, I have my quarterback and RB starts and sits of the week that will land you in the win column.

Week 2 Quarterback Starts

Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers (Vs. Miami Dolphins)

Brock Purdy had a huge game against the Rams, throwing for three touchdowns and 205 yards. He absolutely torched the Rams secondary, and now he has the matchup of a lifetime. Just last week, Kirk Cousins threw for three touchdowns. The 49ers did lose De’Zhaun Stribling, but the good news is Mike Evans looked great, and so did Deebo Samuel. And if both of them can play at an elite level alongside Christian McCaffrey, then Purdy will have another huge day.

Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears (Vs. Minnesota Vikings)

I don’t think anyone would bench Caleb Williams this week after his monster week. But he is going against a tough defense. However, the Vikings’ defense does have flaws. They gave up 387 passing yards and two touchdowns to Jordan Love. The one thing Williams also has in his arsenal is his run game. He is not afraid to run the ball, as he had two rushing touchdowns on 65 yards. Williams is elite enough to perform against a tough defense.

Jaxson Dart, New York Giants (At Los Angeles Rams)

This one is a bit of a hot take, but I loved what I saw out of Jaxson Dart against the Cowboys. Dart is another one who can run the ball and is elite when doing so. He had 54 yards on 11 carries last week, but also threw for three touchdowns. Dart looks to be comfortable on the field and isn’t looking to run first but rather to find the open receiver. The Giants are looking like a fun fantasy team with Malik Nabers and Isaiah Likely. Also, let’s not forget Myles Garrett is on IR, which will give Dart some extra time to find the open man.

Week 2 Quarterback Sits

Bo Nix, Denver Broncos (Vs. Jacksonville Jaguars)

Bo Nix is an interesting fantasy player, as each year he has finished as the QB7. But he isn’t consistent. Last year in Week 1 he put up 8.8 fantasy points, then in Week 2 he scored 21.2, and then in Week 3 he dropped down to 13.4. He did have a 40-point game last year, but he also had 12 games scoring less than 20 fantasy points. This is a tough week for him as the Jaguars defense is no joke, and I’m not sure if Jaylen Waddle is going to help his case this week.

Tyler Shough, New Orleans Saints (At Baltimore Ravens)

Tyler Shough might be the add of the week as he put up 410 yards and three touchdowns. However, he did throw 56 times. This looks intriguing, as the Saints should be losing to the Ravens, but last week can be considered an outlier game. Shough does have some great options with Chris Olave, Devaugh Vele, and Juwan Johnson. But the Ravens’ defense looked great as they shut down the Colts’ offense besides Jonathan Taylor.

Week 2 RB Starts

Ashton Jeanty, Las Vegas Raiders (At Los Angeles Chargers)

I want to congratulate everyone who got a steal on Ashton Jeanty with his injury scare. It looks like he is more than healthy and is likely to be a workhorse. The Chargers defense is solid, but I’m loving what Kirk Cousins is doing with Jeanty. Not only was Jeanty elite in the run game, but also elite in the passing game. He caught all six of his targets for 45 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 102 rushing yards on 23 attempts. I expect Jeanty to get a ton of usage this week and check downs.

Kenneth Walker III, Kansas City Chiefs (Vs. Indianapolis Colts)

Kenneth Walker III looked like prime Adrian Peterson in Week 1. Walker had two total touchdowns, but the big thing was he had 173 rushing yards on 23 carries. This is another workhorse, and I expect the Chiefs to lean heavily on him. This week he has the Colts, who just gave up three rushing touchdowns and 144 yards to Derrick Henry.

Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles (At Tennessee Titans)

I highly doubt anyone would sit Saquon Barkley this week, but he did have a bit of a stinker game for a first- or early second-round pick. However, he has the Titans this week, who just gave up 102 rushing yards and a touchdown to Breece Hall. Barkley has a great chance to cook up this defense as the lead back in the offense.

Week 2 RB Sits

Quinshon Judkins, Cleveland Browns (At Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

At the moment, I’m benching every Browns player while Deshaun Watson is under center. Judkins only had 12 carries last week and put up 33 yards. I love the talent, but he is on a terrible team that will be playing from behind all year. I actually do like this matchup as Tampa Bay just gave up 16.3 fantasy points to Chase Brown. But the Browns offense needs to click before Judkins can perform.

Jeremiyah Love, Arizona Cardinals (Vs. Seattle Seahawks)

It was great to see Jeremiyah Love score a touchdown in his debut, but he was outcarried by Tyler Allgeier 17-11. The Cardinals did look great against the Chargers, but this Seattle defense is a tier above. Seattle was able to shut down the Patriots last week, and I expect them to do the same to the Cardinals. Going forward, I’d bench Love until he jumps into the lead back role.
