It is another big week in fantasy hockey and it is most likely the first week of playoffs for most leagues. Whether it is or not, you need your goalies to be on top of their game. If you’re lacking or needing help, these are three of the top options that are more available than not right now to give you a boost.
Fantasy Hockey Week 23 Goalie Streams
Tristan Jarry, Pittsburgh Penguins
Tristan Jarry has been hot since being called back up from the AHL. He is right back into prime Jarry form as he has won four of his five starts, recorded 29+ saves in four of the games, and recorded a .914 SV% or better in four of the five games as well. Alex Nedeljkovic just had a good game, but right now, Jarry is in the driver’s seat and should continue to be.
The Pittsburgh Penguins’ hopes of making the playoffs are pretty much out the door, but if they can finish strong, it gives the players who will still be there hope. There are also a number of players fighting for spots next season, so the team hasn’t and won’t roll over for any opponent. I expect them to keep putting up more wins than losses. The Penguins face the Tampa Bay Lightning, Buffalo Sabres, and Ottawa Senators. It’s not the easiest schedule, but not the hardest either. Jarry has just knocked off teams like Minnesota, Vegas, St. Louis, and New Jersey – all playoff teams.
Jake Allen, New Jersey Devils
Jake Allen hasn’t taken over the starting role from Jacob Markstrom, but he has earned split starts with him. Allen has not only played well, Markstrom has struggled and the New Jersey Devils aren’t safe in a playoff spot after losing two of their best players. Allen has started four of the last seven games and earned three wins, only losing the last game to the Calgary Flames because the team broke down in front of him in the third period.
The Devils play four times this week, so the expectation is that Allen will play two of those games and pull the easier matchups, fortunately for fantasy hockey managers who take advantage. New Jersey plays the Vancouver Canucks, Chicago Blackhawks, Winnipeg Jets, and Minnesota Wild. As Allen was in net for the last game, he’ll very likely sit on Monday and face off against the Blackhawks and really banged up Wild. I expect one win and good numbers at the very least from Allen.
Karel Vejmelka, Utah Hockey Club
Karel Vejmelka is a big reason why the Utah Hockey Team is still hanging around and right in the mix for the final playoff spot in the West. The team is four points out with one game in hand and Vejmelka is starting every single game the team plays. At this point, that isn’t going to stop because Connor Ingram is injured and Utah wants the best chance to win every night.
Vejmelka has won three of his last four games and has started in 13 consecutive games for Utah. He isn’t putting up a SV% better than .900 every game, but he does have a .907 SV% on the season. Utah has an easy start and end to the week, but a difficult middle. This week might finally be where Vejmelka gets a one game rest as the team plays the Lightning and Florida Panthers back-to-back, so he will only have to deal with one of them. The other two games to start and end the week are against the Detroit Red Wings and Blackhawks. The Red Wings are 2-8-0 in their last 10 games and Chicago has lost seven in a row.
