Week 3 of the NFL season is in the books, and once again we were left with plenty of highs, lows, and a few “what just happened?” moments. I am going to try and capture 5 key things we learned from last week to help us in fantasy for this coming week. We will cover that in Makers and Heart Breakers. This is the place where we highlight the players who can help fatten your wallet (or rack up those fantasy wins) and the ones who might just break your heart.

But before we turn the page to Week 4, let’s take a quick look at what we learned from Week 3.
5 Things We Learned from Week 3 of the 2025 NFL Season
- Daniel Jones is cooking – He sits third in passing yards (818) and third in rushing TDs (3). Jones is cracking that whip in Indian.
- Christian McCaffrey is basically a WR – Only Puka Nacua (29) and Jake Ferguson (27) have more catches than CMC (25). He’s dominating through the air and on the ground.
- Rhamondre Stevenson is the Patriots RB to trust – He continues to lead the backfield in snaps, carries, fumbles, and targets while holding strong in pass protection. Somehow, he is keeping Treyveon Henderson on the bench.
- The waiver wire has been gold – where you least expected it; Daniel Jones, Marcus Mariota, Keenan Allen are a few names that we didn’t expect to see producing in 2025.
- Injuries are already reshaping lineups – Week 3 brought us injuries to running backs and wide receivers alike. The faster you adapt to the changes, the better off you will be.

Week 4 Money Makers and Heart Breakers
Here is a brief definition of each of my terms for anyone who might be new:
💰 Money Maker – This player will perform better than expectations
💔 Heart Breaker – This player will perform lower than expectations
💰 Money Makers
Quarterbacks
Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
Josh Allen has been really good this season. He has already passed for 5 touchdowns and run for 2 more. In Week 3, the Saints are on the schedule. The Saints have given up the 8th most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. Every single quarterback to play against them this season has passed for multiple touchdowns. If luminaries like Mac Jones, Kyler Murray, and Sam Darnold can do it, I think Josh Allen can too. An easy 20-point fantasy day for Allen is coming.

Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers
Herbert has passed for over 300 yards and/or multiple touchdowns in all three games this season. He has 108 pass attempts this season. So the Chargers are throwing the ball. In Week 3, the Chargers will play against the Giants, who give up the 10th-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. It’s the easiest matchup the Chargers’ passing attack has seen this season. Everyone should be charged up about this.

Joe Flacco, Cleveland Browns
Really, Joe Flacco? Really Reedy? Flacco has stunk. I know he has. But the Browns play the Lions in Week 4. The Lions have allowed each and every quarterback to play against them to pass for 2 or more touchdowns this season. Look for Flacco to throw the ball to keep the Browns in the game and get himself 2 passing touchdowns.

Running Backs
James Cook, Buffalo Bills
Does it even matter who Cooks is running the ball against anymore? This guy is simply a plug-and-play running back. The Saints are up in Week 4. The Saints’ defense has given up a touchdown to every lead running back they have faced this season. They don’t give up a lot of yardage on the ground, though, as no running back has surpassed 70 yards rushing against them yet. The Saints’ defense tends to give up lots of receptions and receiving yards to running backs. Cook will be involved both catching and running the football in Week 4.

Omarion Hampton, Los Angeles Chargers
Hampton has the Chargers’ backfield to himself now. In Week 3, he rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown and saw 7 targets, which he turned into 6 receptions and 59 yards. We already know the Chargers play the Giants in Week 4. Apparently, the Giants’ defense isn’t just bad at defending the pass in 2025 but also stinks against the run. The Giants give up the fourth most fantasy points to opposing running backs. Start your Chargers.

$7,000 on FanDuel
Tony Pollard, Tennessee Titans
Pollard has been ok this season. In Week 4, the Titans play the Texans. The Texans have allowed 4 different running backs to score a touchdown against them in the first 3 games this season. All four of those players scored double digits in fantasy points. Now I’m not saying Pollard will get you 20 points, but he has a good match-up and he will have volume. The Titans NEED to utilize him heavily in Week 4.

Wide Receivers
Quenton Johnston, Los Angeles Chargers
The Giants are up in Week 4. I have been all over the Chargers and will stay that way. Why? Because the Giants also give up the second-most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. Johnston has a 22% target share of Chargers passes. QJ also leads the Chargers in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. The Giants have been beaten over the top for touchdowns. Start your Chargers! (that includes Keenan Allen and Ladd McConky)

Rome Odunze, Chicago Bears
Rome leads the Bears in targets (27), receptions (16), receiving yards (227), and touchdowns (4). Odunze has a massive 28% target share of Bears passes. This gets even better. In Week 4, the Bears will play the Raiders. The Raiders happen to give up the fourth most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. I think we can expect yet another big game from Odunze in Week 4.

Jakobi Meyers, Las Vegas Raiders
While everyone else is chasing last week’s fantasy points in a nice match with Tre Tucker, you might want to play Meyers instead. The Bears also do not defend the pass well. They give up the third most fantasy points weekly to wide receivers. Meyers has a high floor at the very least. This is a good week for him to see volume, as Geno Smith will be throwing the ball a lot. Yes, I also like Tre Tucker from the Raiders this week, too.

Tight Ends
Hunter Henry, New England Patriots
I am not chasing the point here, really, I am not. I would not expect another massive game from Henry this week. But the Patriots play the Panthers. The Panthers give up the 8th most fantasy points to opposing teams’ tight ends. Even if this is a floor game, it should be a high floor. Henry can get you to 10 points.

Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs play the Ravens in what appears to be a must-win game for both teams. The Ravens are generous when it comes to allowing tight ends to score fantasy points. Travis Kelce is the starting tight end for the Chiefs. He tends to come up big in big games. I wouldn’t be expecting some massive 20-point fantasy outburst, but the stars are aligned here for Kelce to produce well in Week 4. This is the kind of game Taylor Swift might write a song about; it will be a tragedy for the team that loses.

Defense
Houston Texans
The Texans are a somewhat scrappy defense. They have 9 sacks on the season. The Texans are playing the Titans in Week 4. We went this way with the Colts last week for the same reason. The Titans give up sacks. Teams average 5 sacks a game against the Titans. Let’s watch the Texans get to that average and get you 10 or more fantasy points in the process

$4,400 on FanDuel
Carolina Panthers
In Week 3, the Panthers’ defense went nuts on the Falcons. The Panthers scored 22 fantasy points in that game. The Patriots, my Patriots, made a very bad habit of fumbling the ball in Week 4. They coughed the ball up 5 times. Teams also average 4 sacks per game against the Patriots. This is a week the Panthers can get you there.
$2,500 on DraftKings
$3,200 on FanDuel
Chicago Bears
Because teams have scored a lot of points against the Bears, people will shy away from this defense in fantasy. But believe it or not, the Bears’ defense has scored 11 fantasy points in two out of three games this season. The Bears are also playing a Raiders team that gives up sacks and interceptions. The Raiders will move the ball against the Bears, but Geno Smith will get sacked and throw an interception.

💔Heart Breakers
Quarterbacks
Drake Maye, New England Patriots
The Patriots will play the Panthers in Week 4. The Panthers give up the least amount of fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. Drake Maye might be the best quarterback they will face this season, but expect them to get after him. Unless I had to, I would avoid Maye this week.
Aaron Rodgers, Pittsburgh Steelers
Aaron Rodgers is a weird fantasy option this season. He has passed for 7 touchdowns this year, but has not passed for over 244 yards yet. The Vikings are up in Week 4. The Vikings give up the third-fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. I now have more than 10 things I hate about you, Aaron.
Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars
Sometimes it is just so simple to pick a heartbreaker. The Jaguars play the Niners in Week 4. The Niners are tough on quarterbacks. Only Spencer Rattler has had a good fantasy day against the Niners this season. Rattler passed for 207 yards and 3 touchdowns. I know Spencer Rattler, and Travor Lawrence is no Spencer Rattler. I am really this low on Lawrence. Cut your hair, hippie!
Running Backs
David Montgomery, Detroit Lions
The Lions play the Browns in Week 4. If you haven’t been paying attention, you cannot in any way, shape, or form run on the Browns. They have shut down Derrick Henry, Chase Brown, and Josh Jacobs. No one has even rushed for 50 yards yet. So while Monty went BIG TIME in Week 3, he is an all-avoid for me in DFS in Week 4.
Jonathan Taylor, Indianapolis Colts
The Colts play the Rams in Week 4. The Rams are even tougher than the Browns on running backs this season. Not a single running back so far has surpassed 10 fantasy points against the Rams. With that said, Taylor has been an absolute monster. Obviously, you are playing him in season-long. In DFS, don’t pay up in Week 4.
Cam Skattebo, New York Giants
Skattebo was literally everything we could have ever hoped for in Week 3. He ran over and through people for 60 yards and a touchdown rushing and another 61 yards receiving. The Chargers are up in Week 4. The Giants are going to have to throw to stay in this game. I would start Skettebo for volume touches in season-long, I am just keeping my expectations in check.
Wide Receivers
DK Metcalf, Pittsburgh Steelers
You already read that I am out on Aaron Rodgers against the Vikings in Week 4. We can add DK there as well. I am not playing him anywhere. The volume seems low, and the production is ok. The Vikings may shut all that down in Week 4. That’s right, DK may not even reach that massive volume of 3 or 4 receptions. That, my friends, is how you write sarcasm
Kayshon Boutte, Carolina Panthers
The Patriots have a crappy match-up against the Panthers. Let’s face it, you weren’t playing him anyway. It might be super obvious, but it made this a little fun for me.
Brian Thomas Jr., Jacksonville Jaguars
Yuck. The Jaguars’ pass attack has been gross. Brian Thomas Jr. has been gross. I throw up in my mouth just thinking of this guy. Another player that you probably weren’t playing. If you are, get out of your god damn head. This is 2025 and not 2024! Until Thomas does something, all we can do is keep poking him with a stick.
Tight Ends
Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints
I absolutely hate writing his name here. The volume has been fantastic through three games. I love everything about Johnson this season. Not a single tight end has had over 13 yards against the Bills’ defense this season. The Saints play the Bills in Week 4. Let’s hope the volume can make Johnson a floor play. Everyone loves floor play, but I’ll avoid it in DFS.
Zach Ertz, Washington Commanders
The Commanders play the Falcons in Week 4. The Falcons give up the least amount of fantasy points to opposing tight ends. Even worse, everyone thinks the backup quarterback would rely on the tight end. In Week 3, Marcus Mariota only targeted Ertz three times. That was less than half of what he averaged with Jayden Daniels at quarterback. Don’t listen to people screaming at you to play him.
