I went 2-1 in the player prop market for the third time in four weeks in Week 4. That brings my season-long record to 7-5. I am hoping to improve on that mark with three of my favorite Week 5 NFL player props. Adjust all plays as you see fit, and bet within your means. Week 5 NFL Player Props
Jalen Hurts OVER 24.5 Rushing Yards (-120, BetMGM)
For my first Week 5 NFL player prop, I am going with Jalen Hurts to finish Sunday’s game with at least 25 rushing yards. Hurts has not been running nearly as much this year as he has in the past. However, I think that will have to change if Philadelphia is going to defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jacksonville has played four games this season and has yet to allow a 40-yard rusher. With Saquon Barkley expected to miss this game, the Eagles will likely have Will Shipley and Dameon Pierce in the backfield. I don’t feel confident in either player, especially considering recent events surrounding Philadelphia’s offensive line. All-Pro tackle Lane Johnson announced his sudden retirement, while the Eagles traded Pro Bowl guard Cam Jurgens to Baltimore. While those departures threaten to reduce their traditional rushing output, they may force Hurts into more running situations than normal.
The Jaguars have sacked opposing quarterbacks 10 times thus far in 2026. If Jacksonville gets pressure on Hurts, it could force him to scramble more than he’s used to. Deshaun Watson ran for 38 yards against Jacksonville in Week 1 as he was often forced out of the pocket. I think we can see a similar situation with Hurts on Sunday. With Barkley out, Hurts could be called upon for extra short-yardage and “Tush Push” carries. It may not be pretty, but I think Jalen Hurts finds a way to rush for at least 25 yards in this game.
Courtland Sutton OVER 0.5 First Quarter Receiving Yards (-114, DraftKings)
Do we think Sean Payton is taking over the playcalling duties for the Denver Broncos because he is happy with how the offense is performing? I’m going to go out on a limb and say the answer is a resounding “No”. So, let’s try to figure out what Payton is seeing. A good starting point is the production of wide receiver Courtland Sutton, or lack thereof. Sutton recorded at least 1,000 receiving yards while catching 60 percent of targets in each of quarterback Bo Nix’s first two NFL seasons. He enters Week 5 with 86 total receiving yards and a 41 percent catch rate. Those numbers must improve, and Payton knows it. I believe he will get Sutton involved early in this game. Because of that, I am taking Sutton to record at least one first-quarter receiving yard.
The matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers isn’t overly daunting. Los Angeles ranks in the middle of the pack in most pass-defense metrics. They also play both man and zone coverage at near-average rates, so nothing is preventing Sutton from getting involved. Besides, Saturday is Sutton’s birthday. I can’t think of a better gift for Payton to bestow upon his wide receiver than some early targets. And in that spirit, I plan on gifting myself something after I cash this. For what it’s worth, I also like Sutton to exceed his full-game receiving yardage props. But with Payton wanting to set the tone early and put his fingerprints on Denver’s offense, I am going with the first-quarter yardage prop.
Jeremiyah Love, Arizona Cardinals: 6+ First Half Rushing Attempts (-140, Fanatics)
I don’t mind picking the over on Jeremiyah Love’s full-game rushing attempt total on Sunday. Most sportsbooks have it set at 11.5. That said, I would much rather play this angle for several reasons. Let’s start with Arizona’s trend of involving the rookie running back early. Love has carried the ball at least six times in each of the last three first halves. That includes two straight games with six or more first-quarter carries (teaser alert). This week, the Cardinals host the Detroit Lions. The opponent and matchup should demand even greater emphasis on Arizona’s run game.
Detroit is perennially one of the NFL’s best offenses, and this year has been no different. The Lions have scored at least 26 points in all four games this season. They have the highest implied total on the Week 5 slate. Part of that is that Arizona’s defense ranks 27th in EPA (expected points added) per play. The Cardinals know their best defense will be their ability to control the ball on offense. That should mean plenty of early work on the ground for Love against Detroit’s 26th-ranked run defense. Now let’s talk about some alternate options and prices.
As I mentioned, Love has carried the ball six or more times in the first quarter in each of his last two games. Coincidentally, Fanatics also has first-quarter rushing attempt markets. They have 4+ carries priced at -140, while 5+ is currently listed at +290. I prefer Love’s first-half rushing attempt total only because we don’t know if Arizona will have the ball to start the game. But I absolutely believe the +290 prop is in play if the Cardinals get the ball first. If you’re going the first-half route, both 7+ carries (+135) and 8+ (+240) are solid alternatives for those who don’t want to pay the 1.4 unit tag. No matter which one(s) you prefer, Jeremiyah Love’s early-game rushing attempts are one of my favorite Week 5 NFL player props.
