2026–27 Fantasy Basketball Points League Rankings (Updated)

We are officially just over one week away from the start of the NBA season. That means draft week has officially arrived ahead of the Tuesday, October 20 Opening Night tip-off!

And, of course, it wouldn’t be draft season without our annual motivational quote. To borrow once again from Michael Scott: I am fully ready to get hurt again!

I posted my preliminary rankings at the start of draft prep. Since then, I’ve poured countless additional hours, late nights, blood, sweat, and tears into perfecting this finalized edition. These moves were not made lightly. Preseason rotations and lingering training camp injury reports shifted the board significantly. Most importantly, we got clarity on starting lineups vs. bench roles. As we all know in points leagues: minutes are currency. Role certainty is the ultimate driver of fantasy value.

What?! Your fantasy basketball league wasn’t hosted on Fantrax last season? Inconceivable! Check out all the features of Fantrax Fantasy Basketball Commissioner, and we’re pretty sure you’ll come around to our way of thinking.

Tiers & Draft Strategy: How to Use This Guide

My initial list was a baseline Top 150 framework. I expanded this final edition to a Top 200 list organized cleanly into 12 distinct draft tiers.

Tiers remain your ultimate blueprint on draft night. They allow you to easily identify talent cliffs and value drop-offs in real time. Do not rigidly lock yourself into numerical ranks. Tiers empower you to navigate drafts dynamically. You can grab high-ceiling value at the top of a tier, or you can let a position slide when a tier is deep.

Drafting Framework: Floor, Youth, and Late-Season Availability

When staring at the board on draft day with multiple players available in the same tier, here is how I weigh the tiebreakers:

  • Role Security & Projected Minutes: In points formats, guaranteed playing time is king. A high-volume starter will almost always outweigh a higher-efficiency bench piece.

  • Trajectory & Upside over Past Production: I consistently lean toward younger, ascending talents. I target players whose usage and minutes trajectories are pointed up over aging veterans past their prime.

  • Late-Season Shut-Down & Anti-Tanking Realities: Winning a championship requires your stars on the floor in March and April. I give a slight tiebreaker edge to players on confirmed playoff contenders. I avoid star players on bottom-feeding teams at high risk of late-season “preservation” rests.

  • Baking in Health & Age Red Flags: Star talents like Joel Embiid, Anthony Davis, and LaMelo Ball carry top-tier ceilings. However, their team contexts and durability histories are heavily factored directly into their tier placements.

  • Playing the ADP Game: You will notice I have a lot of guys ranked significantly higher than their consensus ADP. That is because I aggressively target young, breakout-ready talents on competitive teams. Do not be afraid to let value slide to you if your draft room sleeps on them. However, if you truly believe in a player, do not hesitate to reach a round or two early to secure their production for your squad!

Suppose you see a proven veteran ranked below a younger player with high upside. In that case, understand that health probability, usage trajectory, and late-season availability were heavily weighed against baseline per-minute output.

Biggest Movers: Risers & Fallers

Comparing my initial 150-player preseason ranks to this finalized 200-player Crunch-Time Edition, several notable players saw massive adjustments based on preseason action, role clarity, and injury updates:

The Biggest Risers 📈

  • Jonathan Kuminga (Free Agent / Unassigned) | +39 Spots (Initial: 147 ➔ Final: 108): Shot up nearly 40 spots as fantasy managers lock into his massive ceiling and usage potential, especially with momentum building for him to claim a key starting frontcourt role for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

  • Ty Jerome (Memphis Grizzlies) | +32 Spots (Initial: 122 ➔ Final: 90): Rocketed into the top 90 as his backcourt role in Memphis becomes crystal clear. Jerome looks like the Day 1 starter over Scotty Pippen Jr., and his elite per-minute efficiency is gaining serious traction.

  • Dejounte Murray (New Orleans Pelicans) | +17 Spots (Initial: 61 ➔ Final: 44): Climbed firmly into the top 45, establishing himself as a premium Tier 6 target. Drafting usage-heavy guards is absolute gold in points leagues. Murray should have plenty of ball-handling responsibility coming his way.

  • CJ McCollum (Atlanta Hawks) | +17 Spots (Initial: 105 ➔ Final: 88): Jumped up into Tier 8 as a reliable mid-round scoring anchor. His locked-in starting role on an ascending Hawks team provides an excellent floor. That will keep him fantasy-viable all season long.

  • Darius Acuff Jr. (Sacramento Kings) | +16 Spots (Initial: 91 ➔ Final: 75): I was higher than consensus on Acuff Jr. early on given his ideal landing spot and clear path to point guard minutes in Sacramento. Now that he has been absolute magic during preseason action, the rookie skyrocketed into the Top 75.

  • Darius Garland (LA Clippers) | +14 Spots (Initial: 57 ➔ Final: 43): Moved up into Tier 6 as the main engine for the Clippers’ backcourt. With Brandon Ingram dealing with Achilles issues, don’t be surprised if Garland leads the league in usage.

The Biggest Fallers 📉

  • Jusuf Nurkić (Utah Jazz) | -57 Spots (Initial: 90 ➔ Final: 147): The biggest drop on the board, sliding past pick 140 due to rotation and injury concerns in Utah. He is set to miss at least four weeks after suffering a partial plantar plate tear in the second toe of his right foot.

  • Brandon Ingram (Toronto Raptors) | -54 Spots (Initial: 70 ➔ Final: 124): Fell into Tier 10 with lingering injury red flags and timeline uncertainties. An unstable Achilles is a major red flag, and even at this discounted rank, he makes me nervous. I likely won’t end up drafting him anywhere this season.

  • Kyrie Irving (Dallas Mavericks) | -27 Spots (Initial: 51 ➔ Final: 78): Dropped into Tier 7 as risk management pushes him back on draft boards. Obviously the top-tier talent is tantalizing, but how many games will he realistically suit up for this year?

  • Joel Embiid (Philadelphia 76ers) | -24 Spots (Initial: 56 ➔ Final: 80): Slipped down to Tier 7 as heavy load-management and durability concerns take precedence.

  • LeBron James (Philadelphia 76ers) | -17 Spots (Initial: 55 ➔ Final: 72): Slipped back into Tier 7 as age and maintenance dictate a more conservative draft position. He is already managing lingering lower-back sciatica alongside chronic foot arthritis.

  • Ayo Dosunmu (Minnesota Timberwolves) | -20 Spots (Initial: 106 ➔ Final: 126): Slid into Tier 10 amidst crowded backcourt competition in Minnesota. I initially held out hope he could outshine Jonathan Kuminga. However, now that Kuminga has established himself as a starter, Dosunmu’s production will be up and down—though if an injury strikes, his upside remains elite.

Final Thoughts

It is officially crunch time. You have done all your research. You have read every article on Fantrax, and you are ready to dominate your draft!

Let these tiered rankings be your trusted guide when you are on the clock. When you are stuck deciding between a few players, use this board as your ultimate tiebreaker.

You will notice I am significantly higher on several players compared to their consensus ADP. Do not be afraid to play the ADP game and let value slide to you. However, if you truly love a player, do not hesitate to reach a round or two early to secure their production for your squad.

At the end of the day, winning your points league is not just about loading up on household names. It is about capitalizing on usage, volume, and durability. At the same time, you must ruthlessly avoid the injury landmines and load-management traps lurking in every round.

Be sure to follow me on X @AintDunneYet for daily pre-draft rankings, streaming targets, and strategy updates.

God bless, pounce on those steals, avoid those traps, and let’s go bring home those trophies!

  1. Hey man!

I’m playing fantasy basketball for the very first time this year (a buddy invited me to his 20-man H2H Points league) and while I’ve played in competitive fantasy baseball & football leagues for over a decade, I’m much less familiar with fantasy basketball (let alone this format!). Either way it seemed like a fun new challenge. I came across your article and rankings for points leagues during my research and decided to run my draft off of your rankings & strategy. I figured you may be interested in following along to see how my roster performs – for fun, and as a real-time data point for you as an analyst!

The draft was this evening. As luck would have it, the randomized odds gave me pick number…… 20/20.
One of the only spots I didn’t run a mock draft from.
But I think it went fairly well. Below are my picks, in order:

    Jalen Brunson 20
    Amen Thompson 21
    Walker Kessler 60
    Ryan Rollins 61
    Egor Demin 100
    Isaiah Hartenstein 101
    Toumani Camara 140
    Jonathon Kuminga 141
    Isaiah Jackson 180
    Aaron Nesmith 181
Max Strus 220 (AUTO DRAFT ERROR….)
    AJ Green 221
    Ja’Kobe Walter 260

This league is very competitive, supposedly the 11th year running & they’ve refined the rules substantially. 9 starters, 4 bench spots, max 6 roster moves / wk, no triple-double / double-double bonuses, etc.

Feel free to email me if you’re interested in hearing how it goes. I’m also open to any wisdom you’re willing to share as I learn on the fly!

    – Justin

    • Hey Justin!

Thanks so much for reaching out and for following along! I’m honored that you used my strategy and rankings to navigate your very first fantasy basketball draft—especially jumping straight into the deep end with a 20-team points league! That is a massive league size, but it makes every single roster spot so much fun to manage.

Honestly, pulling the #20 turn in a 20-team snake draft is tough, but you navigated it like a pro. Here are a few quick takeaways on your build:

Top-End Value: Snagging Jalen Brunson at 20 and pairing him with Amen Thompson at 21 is phenomenal value. Amen’s multi-stat per-minute ceiling is custom-built for points leagues.

Steals in the Middle Rounds: Getting Walker Kessler at 60 and Ryan Rollins at 61 gives you tremendous depth. Rollins is set up for a huge year, and Kessler’s block rate gives you an incredible fantasy floor.

Draft Steals & Upside Late: Isaiah Hartenstein at 101, Jonathan Kuminga at 141, and Isaiah Jackson at 180 are absolute steals in a 20-teamer. Jackson is starting Opening Night for the Clippers, so he’s actually one of my featured priority streamers in my Week 1 video!

Draft Pick 100 (Egor Demin): Love taking a swing on high-upside rookies in the middle-to-late rounds. The Nets are giving young guys room to grow, so he could prove to be a massive draft value as the season progresses.

With a 20-team league, the waiver wire gets thin fast, but since you have 6 max moves per week, you can gain a huge advantage by streaming 1 or 2 bench spots to maximize total games played each week!

I’d love to follow along and see how the team performs this season. Feel free to keep me updated on how your matchups go!

Best of luck in Week 1, crush it out there! 🏆

      — Jacob
