2026 Fantasy Baseball: Dynasty Second Base Sell-High Options

It’s all about keeping things fresh. We all know that flags fly forever, but multiple flags look even better. In order to do that, it’s important to churn your roster. It’s a balancing act between immediate gratification and long-term success.

In the case of the second baseman we’re advocating to move on from in dynasty baseball leagues, they still have trade value. Of course, some more than others, but there is a case to be made to roster all of them. The problem, though, is that their value is on the decline.

What?! Your fantasy baseball league wasn’t hosted on Fantrax last season? Preposterous! Check out what the Fantrax MLB Commissioner has to offer and we think you’ll be singing a different tune for the 2026 MLB season.

We want you to create a dynasty, so let’s take a look at some dynasty second basemen I’m looking to sell high on.

Dynasty Second Base Sell High Options

Jose Altuve, Houston Astros

After dabbling in the outfield last season, it appears that Jose Altuve will be shifting back to the infield more in 2026. As he enters his age-36 season, speed is no longer a true factor as Altuve stole just 10 bases last year.

Last season, Altuve hit .265 with 26 home runs, 77 RBI, and 80 runs scored. The second baseman is always going to be a strong hitter and piece of the Astros’ lineup, but there are some causes for concern. Especially without the stolen bases, Altuve is no longer elite.

In the second half of 2025, Altuve hit just .247, and he had a .241 xBA overall. That’s going to generate some cause for concern, and his 6.2% barrel rate and 30.9% hard hit rate last year don’t help either. The same can be said for Altuve’s .442 SLG when compared to his .382 xSLG.

While he’s still a solid hitter who can be productive, he’s not going to make the same impact he once did.

Marcus Semien, New York Mets

From the perspective of the Texas Rangers, it was addition by subtraction. Things weren’t going well between Marcus Semien and Corey Seager, and the Rangers decided a change was needed. It was the former who was sent packing, and in doing so, Texas was willing to take a questionable long-term contract in the form of Brandon Nimmo.

As we look at Semien the fantasy player, at age 35, it’s clear things are going in the wrong direction. At this point, his name recognition is the biggest thing he has going for him.

Over the last three years, Semien has seen his home run totals go from 29 to 23 to 15. Granted, he only played in 127 games last season, but with a .134 ISO, it’s not surprising to see his struggles. Semien’s 6.7% barrel rate and 35% hard hit rate don’t do him any favors, and it’s a continuation of trends going in the wrong direction.

The second baseman only managed to hit .236, and with just 11 stolen bases last year, nothing has been going right for Semien. None of his metrics have been going in the right direction, and this is a situation you want to divest yourself from.

Andres Gimenez, Toronto Blue Jays

If we come for the stolen bases and don’t get any, then what are we doing here? After stealing 30 bases in two straight years, Andres Gimenez dropped down to 12 last season. In fairness, Gimenez only played 101 games, but he also didn’t hit. And there are real concerns here across the board. This is the time to leverage the people who think Gimenez can still be a stolen base asset.

One of the issues, though, is whether or not Gimenez is now a platoon option. He only had 86 at-bats against left-handed pitching last season, and hit just .175 in them. Overall, Gimenez hit just .210. While his .239 BABIP provides some optimism, that’s limited at his .251 xBA.

I know we are here for speed, but Gimenez simply doesn’t impact the ball when he makes contact. Last year, his barrel rate was just 3% compared to a career high of 6.7%. Gimenez’s 27.7% hard hit rate (37.8% career high) follows the same path.

Even when things are going well for Gimenez, the batted ball profile isn’t good. But now, if he’s going to platoon, the stolen bases will be harder to come by. And they are one-dimensional at that.
