Tight Ends Notes

Brock Bowers, Las Vegas Raiders

A month, a week, who cares? Yes, I’m aware that we are talking about two very different durations of time, but with Bowers potentially returning to the field for Week 2, it’s worth digging into. The meniscus trim that Bowers had generally requires about a month of recovery time. Yes, you can return to action sooner, but that’s the consensus. Instead, after missing Week 1, it’s possible we get Bowers back on Sunday. For our purposes, he’s going to be ranked as if he’s making his return, which means that Michael Mayer goes back to not being ranked. Should that change, Mayer is a mid-range TE2 after catching six passes for 32 yards in Week 1. But if Bowers plays, don’t try and get fancy here; just put him into your lineup.

Colston Loveland, Chicago Bears

This is it, sound the alarms. Send Loveland right to the waiver wire after he failed to catch a pass on Sunday. If you are thinking that I’m overreacting and spewing crazy talk, good, that’s the point. You have every right to be frustrated with Loveland’s performance, or lack thereof, on Sunday, but there’s no action to take.

Maybe it would be easier to understand if the Bears didn’t score 59 points on Sunday, but here we are. Loveland was only targeted twice while Cole Kmet caught a touchdown pass and Kalif Raymond had eight catches for 84 yards. Let’s chalk it up to how the game played out and remember how well Loveland closed out the 2025 season.

Dalton Kincaid, Buffalo Bills

Not only did Kincaid look healthy in Week 1 after dealing with knee issues last year, but he was explosive. Kincaid didn’t catch a touchdown among his five receptions on six targets, but he gained 130 yards. Kincaid was a big-play machine while being tied for the second most targets in Buffalo. After a short week, the Bills face the Detroit Lions on Thursday, and the expectation is that there will be plenty of offense with the ball flying downfield. Maybe this is the year we see a healthy Kincaid truly take the next step in his development.

Sam LaPorta, Detroit Lions

After he didn’t play in the preseason, LaPorta didn’t miss a beat in Week 1. Last year was difficult as he managed a back injury, so it was a good sign to see LaPorta catch five of his eight targets for 48 yards. From a fantasy perspective, the production wasn’t crazy, but his health and role in the offense were both pluses.

Tucker Kraft, Green Bay Packers

You would have never known that Kraft tore his ACL halfway through last season. The explosiveness, production, and workload were all there even if Kraft didn’t find the end zone. Kraft caught three of his six targets for 65 yards, and that was good enough to finish the day third in receiving yards for the Packers. It appears we can move forward without issue here.
