Week 5 was quiet on the injury front for the quarterback position. No new injuries outside of Michael Penix Jr., whose rib injury did not occur until overtime.
Keeping up with the transparency from last week’s article, here is how we fared.
Matthew Stafford finished with 383 yards and three scores, so he came through in a game that went to overtime.
Jacoby Brissett lived up to the generous matchup, completing 29 of 47 pass attempts. He threw for 292 yards and three scores, adding 19 rushing yards and finishing within the top-ten quarterbacks for the week.
Jordan Love also capitalized on a good matchup on his home field. He finished as QB6, throwing for 367 yards and two touchdowns.
All in all, it was a good week. Let’s try to keep that momentum as we head into Week 6.
Early reminder: there are four teams on bye this week. The Lions, Bengals, Vikings, and Dolphins are all off this week. It makes scrounging for a worthy starter this week all the more important.

Week 6 Quarterback Streamers and Sleepers
Kirk Cousins, LV vs. BUF – Streamer
Kirk Cousins is quietly having a solid season. Through the first five weeks of play, he is the QB6 overall. He is tied for QB2 in passing touchdowns, and he is QB8 in passing yards. Of course, he wouldn’t be Kirk Cousins if he did not throw some interceptions, so he has four of those under his belt just to remind us all of what is lurking beneath the surface.
This week, the Raiders host the Buffalo Bills. The Bills’ once-mighty defense has become a bit of a pass funnel, allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks. They are currently allowing 274 passing yards and 2.5 passing touchdowns on a per-game basis. Thus far, only Justin Herbert (do not get me started) has failed to throw more than one passing touchdown against them.
Cousins is already averaging 253.8 passing yards per game. In an enticing matchup where the opposition is going to put up points, that average is going to hit the over. As bye weeks really hit harder this week, Cousins is a worthwhile streamer whose upside is only capped by his lack of mobility.
Jordan Love, GB vs. DAL – Streamer
It looks like we can move right back to Love this week, whom we briefly touched on already. In three of his last four games, Love has finished as a QB2. For the season, his floor was QB20 and his ceiling was QB8, where he finished last week. Love also does not involve mobility as part of his arsenal, making him nearly reliant on his passing prowess. With a healthy complement of pass catchers at his disposal, he just needs the right matchup to shine.
The Packers host the Cowboys this week in a game that could turn into a tidy little shootout. The Cowboys are the second-most friendly opponent for quarterbacks. They allow 242.5 passing yards and 2.3 passing touchdowns per game. Conversely, the Packers are a more neutral opponent against quarterbacks. Dak Prescott is having a productive season thus far and is expected to put up yards and points. Love will have to drop back a few more times to keep the Packers in this one, putting Love at the upper end of the streaming conversation.
Jameis Winston, NYG vs. NO – Sleeper
It is always a little nerve-wracking to put in print, to start Jameis Winston, much less two consecutive weeks. At this stage of his career, we all know who he is. We know both his potential ceiling and his potential floor, and that there is a mired chasm in between. When he assumed the role of starter, it was awful to watch. Credit where credit is due, he has clearly put in the work and preparation to lead his team, and it has shown both on the field and in the box score.
The Saints allow the 12th-most fantasy points to the position. On average, they allow 228 passing yards and 1.8 passing touchdowns per game.
Winston does not play mistake-free football. However, he can put up fantasy-friendly numbers enough to cover some of the mistakes. If the Saints can keep this one close and push Winston a little bit, he shall heed the call and air it out.
All of that being said, Winston is a volatile play with both risk and upside present.
