G5 Waiver Wire Treasures

Quarterbacks

Ben Wooldridge – Louisiana

Fantrax Rostership: 27%

Total Fantasy Points: 222.5

Fantasy Points Per Game: 31.8

Ben Wooldridge is coming off a 42.85 fantasy point performance against Coastal Carolina. Wooldridge has a Bye in Week 9; however, I like his upcoming matchups. After the Bye, the Ragin’ Cajuns are at Texas State before they have three straight home games. Those three games are against: Arkansas State, South Alabama, and Troy. Wooldridge is averaging 254 passing yards on the season and is 5th in the G5 in touchdown passes (15). Over his last five games, he is averaging 7.9 fantasy points via the ground per game (19 yards and 1 TD/game). Ben Wooldridge is currently QB17 and the Overall #19 player in fantasy. Ben Wooldridge is a G5 Waiver Treasure.

Brett Gabbert – Miami OH

Fantrax Rostership: 8%

Total Fantasy Points: 151.1

Fantasy Points Per Game: 21.6

Miami is one of the better teams in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). They play Central Michigan in Week 9. Central Michigan is allowing 230 yards passing and 2 touchdowns via the sky in their last four games. On the flip side, Gabbert is averaging 232 yards passing and 3 touchdowns via the air in his last three games. Those stats have been good for an average fantasy output of 30.6 points. If you see Gabbert on your waiver wire, pick him up! He is a diamond in the rough and a G5 Waiver Treasure this week.

Running Backs

Elijah Gilliam – Fresno State

Fantrax Rostership: 9%

Total Fantasy Points: 93.7

Fantasy Points Per Game: 13.4

“Elijah Gilliam is a must-add before their Week 8 matchup against Nevada.” If you would like to see what else I said about him last week, you can catch that article here. What did Gilliam do in Malik Sherrod’s absence in Week 8? He had 20 rushing attempts for 66 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. He added two receptions on two targets for 74 yards. This resulted in a 28-point fantasy showing for Elijah Gilliam. I don’t anticipate we will see Sherrod in Week 9, so fire up Elijah Gilliam. Fresno State is close to getting back left tackle, Jacob Spomer. He suffered a season-ending injury at San Jose State on November 11th, 2023. If he is able to come back and play in some capacity for the Bulldogs in 2024, he would be a big help to this offensive line.

Sam Scott – Wyoming

Fantrax Rostership: 3%

Total Fantasy Points: 66.6

Fantasy Points Per Game: 9.5

Who?! Sam Scott! Scott has seen 14, 21, 23, and 17 opportunities in the Cowboys’ last four games. That has translated to 18.1, 16.7, 18.6, and a dud 3.5 fantasy performance. The Cowboys have a date with Utah State in Week 9. The Aggies’ defense has allowed teams to rush to the tune of 280, 313, and 296 yards in the last three weeks. Last week, Eil Sanders had 75 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Against UNLV they allowed three 100-yard runners (Hajj-Malik Williams, James Kylin, and Jai’Den Thomas). The week before that was Boise State, and we all know what Ashton Jeanty has been doing this year. Sam Scott is your Week 9 G5 Waiver Treasure.

Wide Receivers

Chase Sowell – East Carolina

Fantrax Rostership: 16%

Total Fantasy Points: 75.6

Fantasy Points Per Game: 12.6

Chase Sowell is coming off his best game of the season. He had 26.8 fantasy points in Week 8. Sowell had a season-best in targets (10), receptions (7) and receiving yards (138). He also got his first touchdown of the season. All of this comes after the Pirates make a switch at quarterback. Katin Houser got the start in Week 8. Temple gave up 272 passing yards to UConn and 293 passing yards to Utah State. ECU fired Head Coach, Mike Houston, prior to their game this week against Temple. Some teams rally behind this type of stuff. Look for ECU to stick with Houser at quarterback in Week 9 and Chase Sowell is a stock up!

Adrian Norton – Akron

Fantrax Rostership: 10%

Total Fantasy Points: 100.1

Fantasy Points Per Game: 14.3

Other than Week 1, Adrian Norton has scored double-digit fantasy points in every contest. He averages seven targets and 76 yards per game. The Zips average 35 passing attempts to 25 rushing attempts per game. Norton is leading the Zips in receiving yards with 541. The next closest is 277 yards. In Norton’s last five contests, he has seen 11, 9, 9, 7, and 13 targets. Akron has Eastern Michigan in Week 9 and the over/under is 51.5. I expect this one to be a sneaky high-scoring game and hit the over. If the Zips are going to pull this one out, expect Norton to get involved early and often in Week 9.

Tight End

Terrance Carter – Louisiana

Fantrax Rostership: 31%

Total Fantasy Points: 98.5

Fantasy Points Per Game: 14.1

31% > 30%. I know! But it is close enough that Terrance Carter might be available in your league(s). Last week, I told you to pick up Terrance Carter and some of y’all listened. We saw his rostership rise 12%! What did he do in Week 8 against Coastal Carolina? He led the team in receptions (7) and receiving yards (149). He also added a touchdown to boot. That was good for 27.9 points and is now back-2-back 20+ fantasy performances. Carter is leading the Ragin’ Cajuns in receptions (29), receiving yards (465), receiving yards per game (66.43), and is tied for first on the team in receiving touchdowns (4). Terrance Carter is a difference maker at the position and a G5 Waiver Treasure at the tight end position!

Each week we gather more and more data on players and teams. This means each week there are fewer and fewer usable options on your waiver wire. However, you just read this article. That means you are one step ahead of your league-mates. If your league utilizes a Free Agent Acquisition Budget (FAAB), I bet you can get away with a small bid for any of these individuals. If you are looking for other additions, be sure to check out John Laub’s article, College Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Week 8 Gemstones. Or you can catch me every Monday night ~10:30 pm EST on YouTube or X as Justice and I will bring you The G5 Hive Live. We break down the week that was and look forward to the week ahead.
