G5 Waiver Wire Adds

Quarterbacks

Colton Joseph – Old Dominion (ODU)

Fantrax Rostership: 20%

Total Fantasy Points: 168.9

Fantasy Points Per Game: 28.2

This man has been on FIRE! He is coming off a 52.1 fantasy point performance in Week 9 in which he threw for four touchdowns and added 69 yards and a touchdown on the ground. He is averaging 38.61 fantasy points over his last four games! Old Dominion has a date with Appalachian State in Week 10. The same Mountaineers team that allowed Marshall quarterback Braylon Braxton to throw three touchdowns and run for 140 yards and two scores. Braxton put up 50.45 points that week! I expect a BIG performance from Joseph in Week 10. This G5 Waiver Wire Add is a plug and play for you in Week 10.

Katin Houser – East Carolina (ECU)

Fantrax Rostership: 7%

Total Fantasy Points: 88.4

Fantasy Points Per Game: 22.1

Katin Houser took over as the Pirates’ quarterback in Week 8.  Against Army, he threw for 282 yards, three touchdowns and had one interception. While he is not a rushing quarterback, he did add one touchdown on the ground. In Week 8 he put up 39.4 fantasy points. He followed up that performance with a 44.15 fantasy point showing in Week 9. He threw for 269 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. East Carolina has a Bye this week; however, they have a juicy schedule to end the year (Florida Atlantic, Tulsa, North Texas, Navy). I don’t love the Navy matchup in Championship week, but you have to make it there first. Katin Houser is a great G5 Waiver Wire Add for you to use down the stretch.

Running Backs

Elijah Gilliam – Fresno State

Fantrax Rostership: 15%

Total Fantasy Points: 113.5

Fantasy Points Per Game: 14.2

I have mentioned this before, but I typically don’t like to cover the same player in back-to-back weeks unless it is absolutely necessary. I am talking about Elijah Gilliam for a third straight week! Malik Sherrod missed another game for the Bulldogs. In his absence Gilliam had put up games of 22.8, 28, and 19.8 fantasy points. Fresno State plays Hawaii in Week 10. I don’t anticipate we will see Malik Sherrod back in Week 10. Elijah Gilliam is a great G5 Waiver Wire Add this week. Pick him up and roll him out with full confidence in Week 10.

Michel Dukes – Georgia State

Fantrax Rostership: 1%

Total Fantasy Points: 85.6

Fantasy Points Per Game: 12.2

If you are in a full point per reception (PPR) league, Michel Dukes demands your attention. He has put up fantasy weeks of 16.4, 28.9, and 16.6 points over the Panthers’ last three contests. Over that stretch, he is averaging five carries for 51 yards (5.1 pts) and, more importantly,  five receptions on six targets for 44 yards (9.4 pts). He also has three touchdowns during that time, one on the ground and two via the air. He currently has a floor of 14.5 fantasy points over the last three weeks. By floor, I am talking about the scenario where he has zero touchdowns. Georgia State has UConn in Week 10, followed by: James Madison, Arkansas State, Texas State, and Coastal Carolina.

Wide Receivers

Chase Sowell – East Carolina (ECU)

Fantrax Rostership: 19%

Total Fantasy Points: 97.3

Fantasy Points Per Game: 13.9

The second player in this piece was ECU quarterback Katin Houser. Who has been the beneficiary of the Pirates change at quarterback? Chase Sowell. Sowell had 26.8 fantasy points in the week the switch was made. Sowell had a season-best in targets (10), receptions (7) and receiving yards (138). He also got his first touchdown of the season. He followed up that performance with his second-best yardage output with 117 yards and his second touchdown. It is back-to-back games with 100-plus receiving yards and a touchdown. The Pirates have a week off in Week 10 but a nice rest of the season schedule (Florida Atlantic, Tulsa, North Texas and Navy). Seeking a receiver for the playoffs? Sowell is an option that is trending up, with consecutive 20-plus fantasy point outings.

Jaden Smith – Nevada

Fantrax Rostership: 17%

Total Fantasy Points: 120.4

Fantasy Points Per Game: 13.4

Jaden Smith has seen 24 targets over his last two games. In the Wolf Pack’s Week 8 matchup against Fresno State, Brendon Lewis threw 19 times. 12 of those went to Jaden Smith (63.2% target share). He turned those 12 targets into nine receptions and 134 yards. In Week 9, Chubba Purdy was in the quarterback due to an injury suffered by Lewis in Week 8. Purdy threw the ball 18 times and 12 of those went to Smith (66.7% target share). Unfortunately, he was only able to turn those 12 targets into six receptions and 54 yards. Brendon Lewis is back for Nevada this week against Colorado State which is great news for Smith in the receiving yardage department! Colorado State just allowed nine receptions and 146 yards to Ryan Davis (Wyoming). Jaden Smith is a fine G5 Waiver Wire Add this week.

Tight End

Houston Thomas – University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA)

Fantrax Rostership: 4%

Total Fantasy Points: 60.7

Fantasy Points Per Game: 7.6

UTSA has been slinging the ball around the yard lately. UTSA quarterback, Owen McCown, has thrown the ball 50, 43, 45, and 50 times in the last four weeks. He has thrown for 1281 yards and ten touchdowns over that four-game span. When we are looking for a tight end on waivers, we are looking for an opportunity. Houston Thomas has had just that over the last four weeks. He has seen 13.8% target share (26 targets), 14 receptions, 258 yards and one touchdown. If we don’t count the touchdown, that is an average floor of 9.95 fantasy points over the last four weeks. Week 10 is full of Bye weeks. Pick up and play Houston Thomas if you are still looking for a tight end option this week.

I have done my best to dive into the G5 landscape by bringing some names to your attention.  If your league utilizes a Free Agent Acquisition Budget (FAAB), I bet you can get away with a small bid for any of these individuals.
