It has been an interesting start to the 2024-25 NBA season that has caused some movement in the dynasty point guard rankings. Several players have gotten off to surprisingly good starts, while some stars have struggled out of the gate. Most of the top rookie point guards have been underwhelming to begin the season. Reed Sheppard, Stephon Castle and Rob Dillingham have all seen very limited action to start their careers. Let’s take a look at some of the dynasty point guard risers and fallers.
Dynasty Risers
Jordan Poole, Washington Wizards
Poole’s first season in Washington didn’t go quite as expected. He was expected to see a usage increase in the move from Golden State to Washington, but that didn’t happen last year. However, this season is a different story as he is finally living up to those initial expectations. Poole is averaging 22.2 points and 5.4 assists through his first five games, both are career highs. He is also leading the league in steals at 2.8 per game. His 4.4 three-pointers per game is good enough for fourth in the NBA. Poole has vaulted up nine spots in the dynasty point guard rankings.
Jalen Suggs, Orlando Magic
Suggs is in his fourth NBA season and has always been a solid fantasy player, but this year he is taking things to another level. He is averaging career highs in points, rebounds, steals, blocks and three-pointers. He is currently one of only two players averaging at least 2.5 three-pointers, 2.0 steals and 1.0 block. Suggs should see his value climb even higher with the news that Paolo Banchero will miss up to two months with a torn oblique. He has risen a whopping 11 spots in the dynasty point guard rankings.
Dynasty Fallers
Fred VanVleet, Houston Rockets
VanVleet’s fantasy stats are down virtually across the board through his first six games of the season. He is shooting a paltry .282 from the field, which ranks dead last among all qualified players. VanVleet is putting up 12.3 points per game, which is his lowest scoring output since the 2018-19 season. He is averaging only 5.7 assists, which is also his lowest mark since the 2018-19 season. If Houston decides to deploy Reed Sheppard at some point, it could come at the expense of VanVleet. He has fallen seven spots in the dynasty point guard rankings.
D’Angelo Russell, Los Angeles Lakers
Russell has struggled mightily through his first six games of the season. He has seemingly fallen down the totem pole of options on offense as he ranks fifth in scoring on the Los Angeles Lakers. Russell is averaging just 12.2 points per game, which is the lowest of his career. Russell is also averaging only 2.3 rebounds, another career low for the Lakers guard. He is shooting .403 from the field, which is the lowest percentage of his career. He has fallen a staggering 10 spots in the dynasty basketball point guard rankings.
