Dynasty Fantasy Football Sell Candidates

The hot topics of the Fantasy Football world always seem to surround rising players, sleepers, breakouts, etc. These topics point you in the direction of drafting or trading for specific players. What is not talked about enough for Fantasy Football is the opposite – players you should look to trade away. Trading players away at the right time can be just as valuable long-term in your Dynasty Fantasy Football Leagues as trading for specific players. The players you roster in Fantasy Football can be looked at stocks – sometimes those stocks rise, fall, and fluctuate but timing is always key.

I have a list of players that I suggest selling in your Dynasty Leagues. Are these players necessarily bad? No. Are these players going to completely bust next season? Also no. Whenever I suggest selling players, it is with the mindset that those specific players have a higher value now than what their value or production will be later. As I said before, timing is key in Dynasty. Here are those players

What!? Your fantasy football league wasn’t hosted on Fantrax this past season!? Once you see how Fantrax stacks up to the competition, we think you’ll be singing a different tune in the 2025 season.

Dynasty Fantasy Football Sell Candidates

Anthony Richardson (QB, Colts)

The sample size of Anthony Richardson during his rookie season was small, but many of us were very intrigued by the major upside he flashed for Fantasy Football. Sophomore year, ended up being less than ideal for Richardson who was benched during the season and had more downs than ups. Here are the weekly finishes for Richardson when playing for Fantasy Football for the position:

  • QB4
  • QB21
  • QB31
  • QB31
  • QB23
  • QB25
  • QB4
  • QB21
  • QB9
  • QB16
  • QB14

We’ve seen a few instances of Fantasy Football dominance but mostly weeks that burned you if you rostered Richardson. Although the Colts invested a first-round draft pick on AR, I am not convinced he has done anything that indicates he is their long-term quarterback. I would not be shocked if the Colts replaced Richardson or brought in heavy competition in 2025.

Kyren Wiliams (RB, Rams)

1,144 rushing yards paired with 15 total touchdowns in 2023 playing in just 12 games was extremely impressive for Kyren Williams. Through 16 games in 2024, Williams rushed for 1,299 yards and scored 16 total touchdowns. Major volume turned into statistical production the last two seasons, but in 2024 it did not come at an efficient rate. Kyren ranked:

  • 4.1 yards per carry (5.0 the year prior)
  • #25 in yards per route run (1.28)
  • #37 in true yards per carry (4)
  • #47 in yards per touch (4.2)
  • #52 in yards created per touch (2.78)

This list is not the ultimate indicator of NFL or Fantasy Football success, but does indeed show a lack of efficiency. Which makes me wonder if Kyren does not score all those touchdowns he has and does not earn over 80% of the opportunities in 2025 like he did in 2024 – what will his Fantasy Football production be?

Chase Brown (RB, Bengals)

Former 2023 fifth-round selection, Chase Brown, was one of the biggest surprises of the 2024 Fantasy Football season. Brown finished 14th in Fantasy points per game (PPG) at 15.9. While I respect the season Brown had, he did seem to just fall into a job. Joe Mixon departed Cincy prior to the season to join the Texans and then Brown played behind Zack Moss for most of the first eight weeks. The perception of Brown is that he holds top-15-ish value for Fantasy Football, which is banking on him operating as a workhorse for the Bengals in 2025. I personally view Brown as a future compliment back, who should deliver some Fantasy Football production but not to the value to where the market seems to be at. I strongly believe the Bengals add running back competition this off-season, if not their clear RB1.

Rico Dowdle (RB, Cowboys)

Following Tony Pollard leaving prior to the 2024 season to become a Titan, Rico Dowdle had next to no competition for running back touches beyond what looks like a “washed” Ezekiel Elliott. While Rico was able to heat up following the BYE week, he had a mixture of performances in 2024. Dowdle finished six weeks with 14+ Fantasy Points but also seven weeks with under 10 Fantasy Points. Dallas will surely add their 2025 RB1 this 0ff-season, which will leave Rico as a handcuff of compliment back. I would sell while he still is a name people actually know, who had some decent Fantasy relevance. Dowdle seems like a bandaid running back to a hole Dallas is eventually going to fill.

Terry McLaurin (WR, Commanders)

At age 29, Terry McLaurin had his best Fantasy Football season to date. 117 targets, 82 receptions, 1,096 receiving yards, 13 receiving touchdowns, and 15.8 Fantasy PPG meant a huge season. 117 targets from rookie sensation Jayden Daniels was the lowest target total for Terry since 2019. Why is this concerning if he was productive? Because McLaurin had next to no competition for targets in 2024. 34-year-old Zach Ertz was the second most targeted player with 91, who is likely going to depart in Free Agency. I love the connection that McLaurin had in year one with Daniels, but I fail to believe the Commanders do not make a huge push to build around their star young quarterback. This could mean a direct impact on McLaurin’s targets, who should still be solid for Fantasy Football in 2025 but have a lower ceiling because of that. Also – that is a lot of touchdowns to bank on happening again.

Courtland Sutton (WR, Broncos)

At age 29, Courtland Sutton had his best Fantasy season to date. (See a common theme? More common themes to come here). 135 targets, 81 receptions, 1,081 receiving yards, eight touchdowns, and 14.1 Fantasy PPG meant a solid season with rookie Bo Nix. Another strong rookie-to-veteran connection. One concern I can point out right away though is it taking 135 targets to be a 1,000+ yard receiver, which is reflected by Sutton ranking 57th in yards per target (8.0) and 40th in yards per reception (13.3). Another concern is the lack of competition for targets which led to Sutton finishing 24th in Fantasy PPG. Javonte Williams earned the second-highest target total, as a running back, with 70. The next target leader was rookie wide receiver Devaughn Vele at just 55. The Broncos got a great season out of Bo Nix, and will prioritize building their offense around him. Sutton is one of the easiest candidates for target competition added in 2025.

Xavier Legette (WR, Panthers)

The Panthers spent a first-round pick on Xavier Legette in the 2024 NFL Draft, and the result was 497 receiving yards on 84 targets in his first NFL season. Those numbers are not super hot when you realize he ranked 98th in yards per target at just 5.9. Legette also ranked 84th in yards per route run and 92nd in yards after the catch. This all comes on a team that lacked pass-catching options for a rising Bryce Young, beyond 34-year-old Adam Thielen. Listen, I can understand some guys take time to develop at the NFL level. But another useless Fantasy season out of Legette could mean him being a dead Dynasty asset.

Jauan Jennings (WR, 49ers)

Another major Fantasy Football surprise from 2024 was Jauan Jennings, who was one of the best waiver wire pickups of the year. Jennings produced 975 yards on 113 targets, which is more than the combination of his yardage totals from 2021-2023 (963). Bigger context to this breakout season is the lack of Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk, who missed most of 2024 with injuries. Yes, Deebo Samuel might be on the way out but do not forget that Ricky Pearsall (first-round rookie) was a late-season riser. Jennings’ ceiling was already hit in 2024.

Isaiah Likely (TE, Ravens)

Isaiah Likely has near Top 12 value for his position in Dynasty, despite being a guy who has finished #19, #19, #28, and #32 in Fantasy PPG throughout his career. Mark Andrews, the actual Baltimore TE1, is still under contract in 2025, and his connection to Lamar Jackson has been strong for years now. Likely finished 2024 with a 60.5% snap share in 2024 and earned just 3.6 targets per game. Likely’s value has been baked around flashes of good performances and the hope that one day he will be the TE1 for the Ravens. This has always felt like a false valuation for a hopeful situation that…might…happen one day.
