Week 1 Recap
In Week 1, we were right on the money with Hollywood Brown, who had 10 catches on 16 targets for 99 yards, and Jonnu Smith, who found pay dirt along with his 5 receptions for 15 yards.
On the flipside, we never got to see Christian Kirk as he was a late-week injury. Based on the Texans’ performance as a whole, I think it’s fair to say that he would have still been a bust. And then there’s Ollie Gordon, who actually received 22% of the Dolphins’ Running Back rush attempts! Too bad that only amounted to two carries.

Week 2 Sneaky Starts
Kayshon Boutte, New England WR @ Miami Dolphins
For all the talk of New England bringing in Stefon Diggs this offseason to lead the wide receiver room, it seems like Boutte might actually be that dude. He looked fantastic last week against the Raiders, catching 6 balls on 8 targets for a team-high 103 yards. All this in a rain game nonetheless. He’s still going a little under the radar on the waiver wire, but I don’t expect that to last after this week.
In Week 1, Daniel Jones threw for nearly 300 yards against Miami, and the Colts were able to score on every offensive drive. Now, to make matters worse, their starting corner, Storm Duck (maybe the best name in football), is banged up. I expect New England to come out with a fire this week against their division rivals, and Boutte seems like Drake Maye’s favorite target. Don’t just scoop him up this week; put him into your lineup with confidence.
Cedric Tillman, Cleveland WR @ Baltimore Ravens
Tillman is also going to be on a lot of waiver wire lists this week and for good reason. Joe Flacco threw the ball 45 times last week, 8 of which went to Tillman. He ended up catching 5 for 52 yards and a touchdown.
Tillman had a bit of a breakout late last season after the team traded away Amari Cooper, but unfortunately, he got shut down due to injury before the season ended. If last week is any indication, he’s fully healthy and ready to pick up where he left off. While the Ravens are a terrible matchup, I expect the Browns to be playing from behind for approximately 59 minutes. Flacco will have to throw a ton again, and Tillman should get plenty of downfield looks as his big X receiver. Don’t be surprised if Tillman has a decent week and a BIG year.
Jordan Mason, Minnesota RB vs. Atlanta Falcons
The Vikings appear to be one of the true split backfields a week into the season. While Aaron Jones is the clear pass-catcher of the two, Mason nearly doubled Jones on carries (15 to 8). He also looked really good, averaging a solid 4.5 yards per carry in his team debut.
Mason is going to be the Vikings’ battering ram, and I expect him to start getting more work each and every week as the team clearly had a plan in place for him when they brought him in during the offseason. I think he’s going to end up being the main guy on first and second downs, plus when they find themselves on the goal line, I expect it to be all Mason.
Juwan Johnson, New Orleans TE vs San Francisco 49ers
I’m not going to lie, I didn’t expect to write about a single Saints player all season, even for a Sneaky Start. Johnson, however, is worth a dart throw if you already find yourself needing a fill-in at tight end (I know I am with plenty of Kittle shares). Juwan received 11 targets in Week 1, catching 8 for 76 yards and producing 4 first downs. He’s big, athletic, and has good hands that the team seems willing to rely on.
Spencer Rattler isn’t a great quarterback to be relying on, but Johnson seems to be one of his safety valves. Head coach Kellen Moore has also always heavily featured tight ends in his offensive schemes. The matchup isn’t great, not that any matchup for the Saints this year will be great, but the ball has to go somewhere, especially when they’re playing from behind.
