Week 2 DraftKings Plays for MNF

This MNF slate for DraftKings is quite a unique one this week. As a result, this week’s article will look a little different. There are two games tonight instead of one. It is a Monday night doubleheader, which has become more common. This year, we will have four such weeks. Two weeks will have kickoffs close to simultaneously, and two will have one game after the other. We will see a kickoff at seven and the next at ten this week. Below, we will cover the best plays at each position, along with an alternative to consider. It’s possible to get contrarian on a two-game slate, but it comes more from how you correlate your lineup.

MNF DraftKings Plays

Quarterback

Favorite Play: Justin Herbert (5.9K)

The Chargers were committed to throwing the football against the Kansas City Chiefs. So much so that all three of their wide receivers scored double-digit fantasy points. The offense was quite different than what we are used to seeing from Greg Roman. They were fourth in neutral pass rate in Week 1. No matter how much they throw the ball, Justin Herbert is always going to be a fantastic DraftKings play. Herbert threw for 319 yards and three touchdowns, and could easily do that again. The Raiders struggled with Drake Maye in Week 1, and Herbert will only provide an added challenge. The only question mark for Herbert is whether that game plan and high pass rate will stick. Either way, he has an excellent opportunity to be in the optimal lineup come night’s end.

Player to Consider: C.J. Stroud (5.5K)

Getting different on this small DraftKings slate is easy. And C.J. Stroud is the quarterback you need to play to gain leverage. The three other quarterbacks on this slate showed promise in Week 1. Stroud and company failed to score a touchdown; the other three quarterbacks threw multiple touchdowns. The Houston Texans’ offensive line is going to be a problem, but that could create opportunities for people playing lineups tonight. I am low on Stroud heading into this matchup. However, on this small a slate, he should be on your radar, especially if you want to differentiate.

Running Back

Favorite Play: Omarion Hampton (5.8K)

On a small slate, the favorite plays at running back and quarterback can overlap. Hampton’s usage last week is the reason he is one of my favorite plays this week. Hampton did not produce many fantasy points, but he did get an elite snap share. Playing over 80% of the snaps in your first game in an elite offense is nothing to scoff at. He also saw involvement in the passing game, which was a question heading into the season. Hampton is a value at his salary for the role he played in Week 1. And not many DraftKings users will stack Hampton and Herbert together. That could give you leverage on two of the more popular players tonight.

Player to Consider: Nick Chubb (5K)

Chubb is the guy in Houston until Mixon gets back. He totaled 60 yards in Week 1 against a stout Rams defense. Now it will not get any easier this week, but his salary makes him worth a look as he is +120 to score, and is right next to Najee Harris in salary. Chubb looked effective and a bit like his old self as he was tied for the most missed tackles in Week 1 with five. He is a nice salary-saving option if you are looking to spend up at wide receiver or tight end tonight. He makes getting to the high-end guys all that easier.

Wide Receiver

Favorite Play: Mike Evans (6.8K)

Emeka Egbuka got the shine last week, scoring twice. And that let Evans’ quality performance go under the radar. Evans had more targets and catches than Egbuka. He also had the fourth-highest separation score in Week 1. This play feels eerily similar to Davante Adams yesterday. Puka stole the show in Week 1, but Adams was still effective. That held in Week 2, where Adams had 106 yards and scored a touchdown. Evans will also likely be in fewer lineups than Egbuka. And I believe he will outscore Egbuka, too. So, I am on the Mike Evans train heading into a matchup with the Houston Texans.

Player to Consider: Jakobi Meyers (4.9K)

Meyers is one of the pleasant surprises from last week. A 97% snap share to go along with ten targets and a highly productive day. He finished with eight catches and 97 yards against his former team. The Raiders will enter as 3.5-point underdogs in this contest. That bodes well for Meyers, whose salary of $4.9K will prove to be one of the best values of the night. Even more so, Geno Smith gets to play in a dome, where he has done the most damage in his career. This game has 60 total points or more written all over it, and I’ll be targeting it more tonight. And I will start most of my lineups with Meyers, given his safe floor and potential upside in a night where Geno has to throw 40 or more times.

Tight End

Favorite Play: Brock Bowers (6.3K)

Brock Bowers is entering this game banged up. However, he still has the highest ceiling and floor at the position by far. Yes, his utilization was frustrating last week. However, he remains a supreme talent and continues to meet targets despite some time off the field. Despite only playing 51% of snaps, he still had 103 yards. If Bowers plays, you will likely want him in some of your lineups due to his slate-breaking potential at the position.

Player to Consider: Dalton Schultz (3.2K)

Schultz is a nice pivot option with many DraftKings users locking in Bowers immediately. Schultz tied for the team lead in targets against the Rams with five, and will figure into the passing game again tonight. Christian Kirk is out again, and the Iowa State rookies are still finding their footing in the NFL. I expect Schultz to be Stroud’s second option in what should be a moderately high-scoring game against the Buccaneers. Schultz would be my second choice at the position, behind Brock Bowers.

Conclusion

Two-game slates are challenging to get an accurate read on. If you fade a highly-rostered player and they score a touchdown, it could be curtains for your lineup. Users on DraftKings will have to eat some chalk in their lineups, and there is no way around it. So, be selective, but remember you are playing to win, and not trying to avoid losing.
