In most College Fantasy Football leagues, only three weeks are remaining in the regular season. In many of my leagues, the playoff race is tight, and a key pickup off the waiver wire could propel a postseason push and a possible championship. VolumePigs and Chris Battistel assisted me in seeking players on the CFF free agent pool to acquire this week…Let’s Go!
There’s no such thing as too much football! 2025 is the perfect time to add the college game to your fantasy football repertoire. Whether you want to create your own league or join an existing league, the Fantrax College Football Commissioner is the place to go!
Week 8 College Fantasy Football Waiver Wire
Quarterbacks
Joe Fagnano, UConn (Laub)
Fantrax Ownership: 7%
Total Fantasy Points: 207.3
FPPG: 26.9
PFF Grade: 87.0
It’s a fantasy dream come true to see UConn rise to a Top 20 offense in the nation. The Huskies are sixteenth in Total Offense, averaging 468 ypg, and scoring 37.1 ppg. The offense, led by Joe Fagnano, employs a terrific trio that produces fantasy points in abundance. The question remains: Why is he still available on so many waiver wires? His fantasy potential is immense, and he could be the game-changer CFF diehards need.
Joe Fagnano’s performance against Boston College on Saturday was nothing short of spectacular. He finished the week as CFF QB4 with 46.9 Fantasy Points (FPs), tossing four touchdowns, passing for 362 yards, and scoring once on the ground. What’s truly remarkable is his impeccable 15-0 TD:INT Ratio, having not thrown an interception in 226 attempts. His completion rate of 68.1% for 1,918 passing yards is equally impressive. In 2025, Fagnano is CFF QB28 with three games over 30 FPs after logging 85.5 FPs in the last two weeks.
Before enrolling at UConn, Fagnano played four seasons at Maine (2019-22) and three campaigns under the guidance of current Huskies’ Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator Nick Charlton. In 2019, he was named Maine’s Offensive Rookie of the Year. In 2022, he posted career-bests in passing yards (2,250) and completions (209). Looking ahead, UConn’s schedule is not daunting with Rice, UAB, Air Force, and Florida Atlantic. The Huskies’ offense should continue to dominate behind Fagnano, setting the stage for an exciting end-of-the-season run.
Notebook: “We brought (Joe) here to do what he did today. We knew that he was capable of that,” coach Jim Mora said after the victory over Boston College (wtop.com).

Anthony Colandrea, UNLV (Battistel)
Fantrax Ownership: 30%
Total Fantasy Points: 201.7
FPPG: 28.8
PFF Grade: 87.8
Despite the Rebels’ undefeated streak coming to an end this weekend, Anthony Colandrea’s performance was a shining light. He ranks as CFF QB15 in total points and QB17 in FPPG this season, consistently delivering QB2 production with QB1 potential thanks to his rushing ability.
The Cavaliers’ signal caller logged double-digit rushing attempts in five of seven games, and that consistency has paid off with three rushing touchdowns in his last two contests. Given how often the Rebels air it out, Colandrea provides one of the safest weekly floors in college fantasy football.
Averaging 28.8 FPPG and 36.9 over his last two outings, Colandrea is quietly putting together his best campaign. He’s on pace for career highs in completion rate, passing yards, passing touchdowns, rushing attempts, and rushing yards, while already setting a new mark for rushing touchdowns. He’s also taking better care of the ball, posting career lows in both interceptions and fumbles.
With an upcoming bye, there’s a good chance CFF fanatics can snag the UNLV signal caller on waivers for a modest bid. Colandrea is a worthwhile stash, as his rest-of-season schedule is one of the most favorable among quarterbacks. His playoff slate opens against Utah State, a team with a weaker defense, continues with a potential shootout against Hawaii, known for high-scoring games, and wraps up against state rival Nevada, which has a struggling defense. Each matchup sets up well for him to finish as a weekly Top 20 CFF quarterback.
Honorable Mention Quarterbacks
Alonza Barnett, James Madison
Fantrax Ownership: 25%
Total Fantasy Points: 184.7
FPPG: 26.4
PFF Grade: 69.5
Cale Hellums, Army

Running Backs
Cole Tabb, Stanford (VolumePigs)
Fantrax Ownership: 1%
Total Fantasy Points: 47.1
FPPG: 7.9
PFF Grade: 77.1
Stanford wants to do a few things on offense—run the ball, and pass it to WR CJ Williams or a TE off play action. Early in the year, it was Micah Ford who was the designated bellcow, but now Cole Tabb, the sophomore from Florida, appears to have usurped him for lead carries.
Against Florida State over the weekend, Tabb took 28 carries for 100 yards and a score, out-carrying the aforementioned Ford 28-8. Unfortunately, the Cardinals will play a formidable opponent in the Miami Hurricanes next, but after that, the schedule is a bit more forgiving.
Jordan McDonald, Boston College (VolumePigs)
Fantrax Ownership: 2%
Total Fantasy Points: 48.2
FPPG: 6.9
PFF Grade: 66.8
The thinking is simple here: Turbo Richard was a CFF stud for the better part of seven weeks, and he went down with an injury this past weekend. In his absence, McDonald saw the lion’s share of carries with 24. What did he do with the opportunity? 124 yards rushing. Not bad.
Without further details on Richard’s injury, McDonald could be an interesting name on the waiver wire this week. The Eagles play Louisville next, which is not an ideal matchup, but CFF coaches can’t argue with the volume. If McDonald gets another 20-plus carry workload, he should be able to salvage a solid outing.
Kendrick Raphael, California (Laub)
Fantrax Ownership: 14%
Total Fantasy Points: 95.1
FPPG: 13.6
PFF Grade: 72.6
In the spring, California running backs Jaydn Ott and Jaivian Thomas left the program for Oklahoma and UCLA, respectively. The defections created a void in the Golden Bears’ backfield, which Kendrick Raphael has filled admirably. After seven games, Raphael has established himself as the lead back for California, and he should be a top priority for fantasy managers looking to bolster their running back position for the stretch run of the CFF season.
Against North Carolina on Friday night, the junior ball carrier scampered for 81 yards on 22 carries and scored a touchdown, producing 17.6 FPs. In the last three games, he manufactured 61 FPs on 267 rushing yards, six catches for 43 yards, and four scores. This fall, he twice surpassed 100 yards in a game and averaged 4.3 yards per carry. In the next two weeks, California travels to Virginia Tech and hosts Virginia: Raphael will see plenty of open lanes in both matchups.
Notebook: Last April, Raphael explained his decision to play for California: “I came here to be the starter, expect to be the starter. But everything has to be earned. Got to go on the field and perform, be consistent and be the best every day.” (si.com)
Rodney Fields, Oklahoma State (Battistel)
Fantrax Ownership: 18%
Total Fantasy Points: 94.5
FPPG: 15.8
PFF Grade: 74.8
Rodney Fields has emerged as Oklahoma State’s lead back over the past three weeks, handling 63% of the team’s carries and 56% of the running back targets during that stretch. This kind of workload, with a high percentage of team carries and targets, naturally brings fantasy production, and Fields has delivered plenty of it.
Over his last three games, Fields is averaging 17.9 fantasy points and ranks as the CFF RB13 in total points scored. His performance against Cincinnati in Week 7 was his best yet and could be a preview of what’s to come for the rest of the crusade. With his potential, he could be the exciting addition your fantasy team needs.
This week’s matchup against Texas Tech isn’t ideal if a CFF diehard is chasing an overall RB1 performance, but the volume keeps him firmly in Flex consideration, especially with thin options. After that, he faces Kansas in a favorable spot, then a bye, followed by three decent matchups to close out the college fantasy playoffs. If he continues to control the majority of the backfield touches, Fields has a real chance to finish the year as a solid running back in college fantasy football.

Wide Receivers
Iverson Hooks, UAB (Battistel)
Fantrax Ownership: 11%
Targets: 57
Fantasy Points: 127.7
FPPG: 18.2
PFF Grade: 82.0
When Corri Milliner was suspended, the main question for UAB was who would step up as the new WR No. 1. The answer has been Iverson Hooks. Since Milliner’s suspension, Hooks has become Kitna’s favorite target and put together his best game yet with backup quarterback Ryder Burton in the upset win over Memphis.
Over his last three outings, Hooks has seen 29 targets, including 11 in that Memphis matchup. He caught all the passes for 173 yards and three touchdowns. The steady volume finally turned into an elite fantasy performance for the Alabama native. Even earlier in the year, when Milliner was active, Hooks still managed to produce solid fantasy numbers. Surprisingly, he is only rostered in 11% of leagues.
After UAB parted ways with Trent Dilfer following the Week 7 loss, the team came out and handed Memphis its first defeat of the season. That kind of win gives a program new life heading into the back half of the year. If Milliner remains away from the team, Hooks deserves a strong waiver bid. His weekly floor is reliable, and his 44-point showing last weekend proves he can deliver a huge week.
Hooks has a bye in Week 9, but the rest of his schedule looks great with matchups against UConn, Rice, North Texas, South Florida, and Tulsa. None of those defenses should worry fantasy managers. As long as Milliner stays out, Hooks is a plug-and-play receiver CFF coaches can trust every week.
Notebook: Hooks’ 172 receiving yards is the most by a Blazer since Tejhaun Palmer in 2023. He is the first UAB player with three receiving touchdowns since Kam Shanks last year. He is the first Blazer since Austin Watkins Jr. in the 2019 New Orleans Bowl with at least 10 receptions. (uabsports.com)
Wyatt Young, North Texas (VolumePigs)
Fantrax Ownership: 6%
Targets: 39
Fantasy Points: 108.8
FPPG: 15.5
PFF Grade: 80.6
It is that time of the year when injuries are piling up, and with that, new names emerge for CFF managers to upgrade their rosters. Fellow Mean Green receiver Miles Coleman either sustained an injury during last week or at some point in the game versus South Florida and was held out of this past Saturday’s action.
Young was a beneficiary of his absence, seeing 11 targets, of which he corralled six for over 100 yards receiving and three scores. That’s back-to-back weeks of 11 targets for Young, and even if Coleman comes back, he has emerged as a trusted option for Drew Mestemaker. The Mean Green get another easy opportunity to score several points against Charlotte this upcoming weekend.
Amare Thomas, Houston (Laub)
Fantrax Ownership: 20%
Targets: 43
Fantasy Points: 102.3
FPPG: 14.6
PFF Grade: 75.0
Chasing targets on the waiver wire usually uncovers fantasy goodness. Over the past four games, Amare Thomas has earned 34 targets, becoming the primary pass catcher in the Cougars’ aerial assault. Against Arizona, he scored twice on four receptions and accumulated 69 yards receiving, producing over 20 FPs for the second consecutive week.
During the previous two campaigns, Thomas suited up for UAB and recorded 115 catches for 1,107 yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging 9.6 ypc. He was one of five FBS underclassmen with 100 catches, over 1,000 receiving yards, and 10 scores in 2023 and 2024 combined.
Despite his success at UAB, the junior playmaker battled for playing time throughout the offseason at Houston and impressed with his commitment. A slow start in the first three games of the year, Thomas only garnered nine targets and reached the end zone once. Since September 26, Thomas has been CFF WR10 with 77.3 FPs, crossing the finish line three times. In the next two weeks, Houston travels to Arizona State and hosts West Virginia. The 6-0 and 205-pound receiver will continue to command targets and score fantasy points.
Notebook: “After visiting Houston and talking to Coach (Willie) Fritz, it felt like it was the best place for me. When I got here, the staff was completely new, and I had to work hard to get on the field. I learned every single wide receiver position. Whenever someone went down in practice, I was always the first guy to fill in, and that’s how I got noticed,” Thomas reflected a couple of weeks ago (thedailycougar.com).

Jeremiah Kroger, South Florida (Laub)
Fantrax Ownership: 4%
Targets: 16
Fantasy Points: 61.9
FPPG: 10.3
PFF Grade: n/a
Obviously, chasing targets is the optional approach to acquiring receivers on the waiver wire. Nevertheless, some players pop up with limited opportunities. Based on efficiency, not volume, Jeremiah Kroger warrants a deep look as a potential fantasy contributor.
In the Bulls’ first three games of the campaign, Kroger saw limited playing time and garnered only two targets. Since the fourth contest, snaps and opportunities have increased for the freshman in the team’s blowouts. His efficiency is off the charts: 14 targets and 12 catches for 259 yards and four touchdowns. In October, he exploded for 21.6 ypc and produced over 17 FPs in each game. The 6-3, 209-pound playmaker is the CFF WR9 with 61.9 FPs while averaging 20.6 FPs.
Coming out of high school last year, Kroger was a three-star prospect and the 38th-best recruit in Maryland. He selected South Florida over Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, Maryland, and Memphis among his college options. How long until the coaching staff increases Kroger’s snaps and targets? I would venture a guess that it is sooner rather than later. Down the stretch, South Florida plays an American Conference schedule with bottom feeders against the pass: UTSA (98), Navy (74), and UAB (94). Stash Kroger now before readers’ competitors catch up to his abilities.
