Many forwards around the league are breaking out, playing well, and taking larger roles on their teams. This is a great opportunity to grab such players off the waiver wire and either stream them or hold onto them for a while. In the fifth week of fantasy hockey, we have three of the top widely available forwards to stream.

Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Forwards for Week 5
Trevor Zegras, Philadelphia Flyers
Trevor Zegras is fitting in perfectly on the Philadelphia Flyers. All he needed was a fresh start and he has been the best thing the Flyers could have hoped for when acquiring him. The young dual-eligible forward is now playing on the top line with Travis Konecny and Sean Couturier, but has also had time with Owen Tippett and Matvei Michkov.
Zegras is the hottest player on the Flyers with four goals and 13 points in 12 games. While he’s listed as being on the second power-play unit, he has six power-play points, and four of them have come in the past five games. He is shooting a good amount and has been heading to the box a lot for fantasy purposes, but he doesn’t hit or block too many shots. His offense very much makes up for that, though. The Flyers play against the Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators, and Ottawa Senators this week, which is ideal for more production.
Dawson Mercer, New Jersey Devils
The New Jersey Devils have gotten a bounce back from Dawson Mercer, and he is turning into the impactful player they had hoped for. He has a regular place in the top-6 and is producing. In the last four games, Mercer has five goals and an assist, but on the season, he has eight goals and 14 points in 13 games played.
Mercer hasn’t gone more than a game without producing a point. It just so happens the lines have once again been spread out to create more depth up front, but he is still playing alongside Timo Meier and is on the top power-play unit, where he has four points. Mercer has been hitting and blocking shots along with shooting more, and while the Devils only play two more times this week, he is well worth the add. They match up against the Canadiens and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Will Cuylle, New York Rangers
Will Cuylle was projected to be a more impactful player offensively this season than he has been, but that seems to be starting to turn. He is on a four-game point streak and has a goal and five points over that span of games. Fortunately, he continues to shoot, hit, block shots, and get penalties each game to make up for any lack of offense prior to this past week.
Cuylle is on the second line and isn’t going to drop to the bottom-6. He won’t see time on the top power play unless someone else goes out, but he is the all-around player that fantasy hockey managers love to have on their team. The New York Rangers play the Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings, and New York Islanders this week.
