Fantasy Hockey Week 16 Goalie Streamers
Joel Hofer, St. Louis Blues
The St. Louis Blues have pretty much been splitting the starts for Jordan Binnington and Joel Hofer, but the latter is the better option in net and has shown that. While Binnington might be traded this season, Hofer will remain and took over the crease almost entirely a while ago, but came back down to Earth, and Binnington wasn’t playing as badly.
Hofer has won six of his past eight starts and has two shutouts in that time. That’s as many shutouts as games where his SV% was below .900, too. He had just gone back-to-back, beating the Carolina Hurricanes and Tampa Bay Lightning, the two top teams in the Eastern Conference. He should get starts this week against the Winnipeg Jets and either one of the Dallas Stars or Los Angeles Kings in a back-to-back. The Kings are more likely, as Binnington would get a game in between, and that bodes better since LA is struggling.
Sam Montembeault, Montreal Canadiens
Sam Montembeault has come back up to the Montreal Canadiens with a vengeance and has retaken his role as at least a split-time goalie. The Canadiens sent Jacob Fowler back down to the AHL, and it’s just Montembeault and Jakub Dobes now. Montembeault has started two of the past three games, and the Canadiens have three games on tap this week.
Montembeault has also won four of the five games he’s played since being recalled, so with the race for positioning in the East, it makes sense for the goalie who’s winning most of his starts to continue starting more. The Canadiens have games against the Minnesota Wild, Buffalo Sabres, and Boston Bruins this week. It’s not the easiest test, but the Canadiens are a strong team.
Stuart Skinner, Pittsburgh Penguins
The Pittsburgh Penguins have taken over a spot in the top-3 in their division, and their goaltending has played well for them. Both Stuart Skinner and Arturs Silovs have settled in nicely and are pushing each other to play well. Skinner, in particular, has won four of his past five starts and has a .909 SV% or better in each of the games.
The Penguins have a fairly easy schedule and four games, so it’s almost guaranteed that Skinner will get at least two starts for you if you pick him up as a streamer this week. The Penguins play the Seattle Kraken, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, and Vancouver Canucks. If Skinner draws the games against the Flames and Canucks, it should be a great week.
