Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Targets

George Lombard Jr., SS, Yankees (67%)

George Lombard Jr. made a splash in his Yankees debut by blasting his first MLB home run. The top prospect should be one of the most added players when waivers run — and for good reason. Across three minor league levels, Lombard slashed .284/.411/.498 with 12 home runs and 14 steals over 78 games. He also drew walks at a sturdy 16.8% clip. Moreover, Lombard’s power numbers in Triple-A are encouraging, as he posted a 47.7% hard-hit rate, 92.7 mph AVG EV, and 21% pulled-air rate across 262 plate appearances.

There could be an adjustment period for Lombard, but he should get a long leash. Combine that with a solid blend of pop and speed, an ability to get on base, and a strong team context, and Lombard is well worth adding in all league sizes.

Griffin Conine, OF, Marlins (28%)

Griffin Conine has been one of the better power bats to emerge following the All-Star break. He swatted five home runs in his last 18 games while sporting a .537 SLG and .296 ISO. Conine’s underlying metrics support his power surge, as he flexed a hefty 20% barrel rate and 94.6 mph AVG EV in that stretch.

Conine was sidelined for most of the year with a hamstring injury, but his power has been constant since his return in late June. In 48 games this season, Conine is slashing .256/.344/.519 with 10 homers, 21 runs, 21 RBI and two steals with a .263 ISO and .376 xwOBA. He also increased his pulled-air rate nearly 10 points from last season to 24.1%. Conine sits against lefties, but that’s not a problem next week with five of six RHP on the docket.

Abimelec Ortiz, 1B/OF, Nationals (24%)

Abimelec Ortiz made some noise by homering in his first game after getting recalled. The first baseman should see extended play down the stretch with Luis Garcia Jr. now in New York. Primarily a power bat, Ortiz popped 18 homers in 365 plate appearances in Triple-A this season with an .845 OPS. He also made loud contact, posting a 14.8% barrel rate and 91.3 mph AVG EV.

In addition to power, Ortiz brings solid plate skills to the table. He maintained double-digit walk rates throughout the minors while making contact in the zone at an 87% clip. Ortiz will likely get most of his at-bats against righties and could be a sneaky source of counting stats, as he’s hit second in both of his starts. Ortiz is worth picking up if you need help in the power column.

Ty France, 1B, Padres (60%)

Ty France has hit the ground running since getting regular playing time in mid-June. In his last 41 games, he has a .315/.369/.570 slash line with 10 long balls, 24 runs, and 31 RBI to go with a 158 wRC+. Overall, France has improved his quality contact this season. His 10.7% barrel rate, 49.3% hard-hit rate, and 92.3 mph AVG EV are all career highs, and have led to 16 dingers across 89 games — just four shy of his career-best mark. France’s hot bat has moved him into the cleanup spot since the All-Star break, where he should provide solid power and counting stats down the stretch.

Jacob Young, OF, Nationals (27%)

If you’re in the market for stolen bases, Jacob Young is an easy call this week. The speedster should be in line for an everyday role with James Wood out with an oblique injury. For the season, Young is 13-for-16 on the basepaths and sports 94th percentile sprint speed across 101 games. In addition to speed, Young is flexing more pop this season. He bumped up his barrel rate from 1.9% in 2025 to 6.3% and is elevating the ball more. The result is nine home runs so far this year, which is a significant improvement from his previous high of three homers across 150 games in 2024. The Nationals are second in stolen base attempts this season, and Young is a solid add for speed-needy teams this week.

Luis Rengifo, 2B/3B/OF, Padres (29%)

Luis Rengifo has hit the reset button since moving to San Diego. Across 18 games with the Padres, he’s hitting .322/.429/.458 with two dingers, three steals and a 155 wRC+ — a far cry from his .205/.280/.254 slash line and 51 wRC+ with the Brewers. He’s also been patient at the plate (12.7% BB%), while striking out at a mere 16.9% clip. Rengifo isn’t flashy, but he gets on base, contributes across the board, and has multi-eligibility. Plus, he’s hit out of the top two spots in the order in five of the last seven games. That plays in deeper leagues.

Luke Weaver, RP, Pirates (60%)

Luke Weaver gets a fantasy boost with his move to the Pirates. The former Mets reliever posted a tidy 1.84 ERA (3.49 xFIP) and 0.82 WHIP with 45:11 K:BB across 44 frames in a set-up role. Most impressively, Weaver allowed only one earned run over his last 32 innings, which dates back to May 1. Weaver should be in the mix for saves in Pittsburgh, if he doesn’t leapfrog his way into the closer’s role at the get-go. He’s a must-add arm this week.

Kyle Leahy, SP/RP, Cardinals (58%)

Kyle Leahy has been on a nice run over his last eight starts. Across those 43.1 innings, he holds a 1.66 ERA and 0.95 WHIP with 39:10 K:BB. He also picked up five quality starts during that span. Sure, a 90% strand rate helped Leahy’s cause. But solid numbers lie under the hood, including a 3.43 xFIP and 17.6% K-BB%, which pair well with a 48.2% GB%. Up next are two appealing home starts against the Rockies and Phillies, making Leahy a solid target in 12-teamers.
