Finding Week 8 tight end sleepers was not an easy task. At this point, we know who the good tight ends are: Travis Kelce and Zach Ertz…That’s pretty much it. But, there have been roster moves and injuries that have opened up the door for tight ends in Week 8. Let’s dive into a couple players that can be sneaky plays in daily Fantasy.
Week 8 Tight End Sleepers
Chris Herndon, New York Jets
The New York Jets scored 30-plus points for two straight games in Weeks 5 and 6. This resulted in two wins, including 42 points against Colts in Week 6.
Quincy Enunwa is out for an extended period of time with an injury. Terrelle Pryor was hurt in Week 5 and was cut soon after. So now we have Jermaine Kearse (who came away with zero catches in Week 7) and Robby Anderson, who I believe should be rostered, getting the bulk of the snap counts at wide receiver.
The Jets just signed former Titan and Dolphin Rishard Matthews, but Chris Herndon, rookie tight end out of Miami University, should be on your radar for Week 8. Herndon has scored a touchdown in two straight games and is the clear starter at tight end. At 6’4″ and 256 pounds, Herndon lines up in the slot and provides a huge target for Darnold.
In Week 7 he received seven targets, and with the lack of pass-catchers in New York (Bilal Powell is also expected to miss time), Herndon is a sneaky play against the Bears in Week 8. The Bears gave up a touchdown to a tight end in four straight games from Week’s 2-6.
Nick O’Leary, Miami Dolphins
You didn’t think you would be reading about Nick O’Leary today, did you? I didn’t think so. That is what you can come to expect from my pieces here on Fantrax. DEEP sleepers.
With Kenny Stills, Albert Wilson, and DeVante Parker out for Thursday’s game against the Texans, O’Leary will get his opportunity. I wanted to write about Mike Gesicki instead (rookie tight end and first-round draft pick) but O’Leary played on 70 percent of snaps last week compared to the former’s 29 percent.
Two weeks ago the fourth-year tight end had four receptions for 49 yards and a touchdown against the Bears. Brock Osweiler loves to target the tight end and he may have no choice on Thursday with limited options. The Texans have allowed three touchdowns to tight ends this season. O’Leary has a safe floor against the Texans as they have given up at least five catches in four contests.
