Deep League Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Targets for Week 21

The deeper the league you play in the more things like position eligibility can make a big difference in player valuation. With so many players now in platoon roles, those extra at bats from super utility players can add up in the standings over time. That’s why players with current or nearing multi-position eligibility are given a bit of a preference in the weekly deep league wavier wire targets.

Deep League Waiver Wire Targets for Week 21

15-Team Mixed League Targets

1. Thomas Saggese, 2B/3B/SS, Cardinals (23% rostered)

There’s a saying by Maya Angelou that, “When someone shows you who they are, believe them.” While it’s unlikely this had anything to do with baseball prospect evaluation, we can aptly apply the statement to our context. For Thomas Saggese, we’ve seen flashes of his immense upside in both the minors and the majors. Though he’s not been able to sustain a quality production level in the majors yet, until recently. The former top prospect for the Cardinals is finally making the most of his consistent playing time by hitting at a scorching rate over the last couple of weeks. In his last 15 games, he’s hitting .317 with a .378 OBP. More impressive is his .391 average over the last seven games. Saggese has the pedigree to turn into a fantasy star someday, and the breakout may be starting.

2. Blaze Alexander, 2B/3B/SS, Diamondbacks (19% rostered)

Some successful players never have a breakout moment. Rather, they quietly make incremental improvements each season until people finally notice their impressive progression. Blaze Alexander seems to fit that profile as he’s slowly increased his batting average each season by a few points in the minors and now in the majors. However, he’s recently made a big leap this season by hitting .292 with four home runs and a .404 OBP over the last 15 games. Not normally known for his power production, fantasy managers should pursue him for his batting average contributions and take any power output as an added bonus.

AL-Only League Waiver Wire Target

Bryce Teodosio, OF, Angels (5% rostered)

For many years, it’s been recognized that the late twenties are when most hitters reach their prime. Though, ironically, if a player hasn’t reached the majors by their mid-twenties, they are often considered a lost cause. However, players like Bryce Teodosio seem driven to debunk those theories. Now in his first season with the Angels, at age 26, Teodosio is showing signs of maturity at the plate so far in his first 10 games in the majors. He’s hitting well above the .300 mark and has an excellent OBP of .360. If he can keep hitting, the counting stats will soon follow.

NL-Only League Waiver Wire Target

Daylen Lile, OF, Nationals (11%)

A key skill in deep fantasy baseball leagues, especially NL-only, is simply paying attention to new roster additions. Quietly, the Nationals added a new name to their everyday lineup with Daylen Lile a little while back. Very much an unknown in most prospect circles, Lile has recently gained attention with his key hitting contributions. Over his last 15 games, he’s batting .309 with nine runs and seven RBI. Lile offers a good fifth outfielder option to help stabilize a team’s batting average down the final stretch.
