Succeeding in deep fantasy baseball leagues requires much skill in working the waiver wire throughout the season. The most important aspect is finding those rare starter-caliber players to plug up roster holes. To find these ‘diamonds in the rough’, it’s important to first look where most other players don’t; the bottom of the pile. To do so, start your search with players that are rostered in less than a third of leagues. Then, look to see which players have up trending roster rates to find those who have been of recent value to other deep league players. This is the process I’ve employed to consistently scour the waiver wire and provide the weekly deep fantasy baseball league waiver targets article, including this week’s article below.

Deep League Waiver Wire Targets for Week 24
15-Team Mixed League Targets
1. Brooks Baldwin, 1B/2B/3B/SS/OF, White Sox (13% rostered)
Speaking of potential diamonds in the rough waiver wire targets, Brooks Baldwin fits that profile perfectly for the final month of the season. Not only does he offer rare multi-position eligibility in five spots, but he’s as hot as any hitter out there the last couple of weeks. After a dismal start to the season, where he batted .227 in the first half, he’s since hit a respectable .276 after the All-Star break. The last couple of weeks is where he’s really made traction in hitting .333 with an equally impressive .396 on base percentage. Baldwin also provides some sneaky power with nine home runs in just over 250 at bats, putting him on a 20 home run pace for a full season. He can be a real difference maker in deep leagues down the stretch.

2. Wenceel Perez, SS/OF, Tigers (29% rostered)
Some players are just average at everything. Though, this profile can still offer good value in fantasy leagues. Take Wenceel Perez, for example, who bats over .250 while chipping in some home runs and steals every now and then. Perez’s roster rate wanes with his batting average, which is rather volatile, but when he’s hot the counting stat production follows in bunches. In his last 15 games alone, he’s hit three home runs and has 10 RBI. The hot streak may not last through all of September, but the rewards are plentiful while it does.

AL-Only League Waiver Wire Target
Mitch Farris, SP, Angels (7% rostered)
If you could see your late season pitching rotation at the start of the season, you’d likely be shocked at the number of names you don’t recognize. That’s because emerging minor leaguers often end up being saving graces toward the final stretch of the season. Mitch Farris is likely one of those players never considered in drafts, but now will be a hot target on the waiver wire after his impressive debut. His debut successfully carried his recent dominance in AA, a 1.42 ERA over his last four starts, into the major leagues. His ability to limit baserunners proves his profile can hold up for the remainder of the season in the majors, making him a sneaky late season starter to tap into for AL-only teams.

NL-Only League Waiver Wire Target
Nabil Crismatt, SP/RP, Diamondbacks (11%)
Another sneaky good starting pitcher over the last month is the little known Nabil Crismatt of the Diamondbacks. In fact, he’s been nearly perfect so far in his first three starts with a 2.14 ERA and 2 wins. While his strikeout rate isn’t phenomenal, his change up has helped induce weak contact and limit extra base hits. Crismatt seems to have a hold on the fifth starter spot for Diamondbacks for the rest of the season and could offer the same benefit for fantasy teams in NL-only league formats.
