Fantasy Baseball Prospect Report – Best Prospect Debuts of 2025

As the fantasy baseball regular season winds down and the fantasy playoffs begin, rookies will likely be a big part of many rosters and help bring home fantasy championships. But who have been the prospects that have contributed the most to fantasy teams making the championship? For both batter and pitchers, which prospects’ debuts were best?

A few of these players have already established themselves as fantasy superstars, while others are still looking for consistency. But by wOBA for hitters, and WAR (wins above replacement) for pitchers, these rookies have been the best.

Now, with just about 25 games left for most teams in MLB, let’s take a look at some of the best prospect debuts from 2025 from the MLB Top 100 list.

Fantasy Baseball Prospect Report – Hitters

Nick Kurtz, ATH, 1B

How good has Nick Kurtz been at the plate this season? His 392 plate appearances don’t qualify him for batting leaderboards, but if they did, his .632 slugging percentage would be behind only Aaron Judge. Kurtz is knocking on the door of the top 20 home run hitters this year (27) despite playing fewer than 100 games.

Roman Anthony, BOS, OF

It was a slow start for Anthony upon his arrival (he hit just .210/.329/.339 in June), but since then, he has been incredible. In the second half, Anthony is hitting .308/.415/.510 with six home runs, 28 runs, and a pair of steals. He and Jarren Duran are part of the outfield that will bring this franchise back to the playoffs, perhaps as soon as this year.

Drake Baldwin, ATL, C

It’s been a good year for rookie catchers, but Drake Baldwin has been the best of them all. Baldwin has played in 100 games now and is hitting .280/.351/.462 with 15 home runs and 62 RBI. Among catchers, he has more home runs than J.T., Realmuto, Adley Rutschman, and Ryan Jeffers.

Isaac Collins, MIL, OF

I’m still not sure the average baseball or fantasy baseball fan realizes how good Isaac Collins has been in his 113 games this year. Collins is hitting .274/.371/.425 with eight home runs and 16 stolen bases. That power-speed ability, combined with his 12% walk rate, makes him a tremendous asset for any format of fantasy baseball. Similar to teammate Jackson Chourio last year, Collins should see a huge spike in ADP next year.

Jacob Wilson, ATH, SS

Jacob Wilson is the anti-Roman Anthony. He had a marvelous start to his season, but has really trailed off in the second half of the season (and an injury had a lot to do with it). Wilson hit .329/.373/.459 in the first half, but is at just .226/.250/.403 in the second half. A lot of his is BABIP-related (.339 first half, .200 second half), but Wilson is going to have to show he can be consistent once 2026 rolls around.

Kyle Teel, CHW, C

Despite playing in fewer than 60 games, Kyel Teel has learned how to hit at the Major League level and is keeping his strikeout rate and walk rate where they need to be to continue for the rest of the season. Teel his hitting .288/.377/.401 with an 11% walk rate. In the minors, he showed power and speed, and has so far lived up to that in MLB with four homers and two steals.

Colson Montgomery, CHW, 3B/SS

Forget rookies, there is no hotter hitter in all of Major League Baseball than Colson Montgomery. He had a .560 slugging percentage in August, including 10 home runs, and started September with another home run on Monday afternoon. Montgomery elevated his fly ball rate from 37% in the first half to 51% in the second half. He and Kyle Teel form a strong nucleus that could finally help get the White Sox out of the basement.

Heriberto Hernández, MIA, OF

Beating teammates Agustin Ramirez, Eric Wagaman, and Javier Sanoja, Heriberton Hernandez has done a lot with his bat in his first 62 games. Hernandez is hitting .272/.332/.437 with seven home runs in just 202 plate appearances. At just 25 years old, Hernandez should be a part of the Marlins’ plans for a long time, and is part of a young nucleus that shows some promise in Miami.

Honorable mentions: Agustin Ramirez, Jakob Marsee, Cam Smith, Chandler Simpson

Fantasy Baseball Prospect Report – Pitchers

Chad Patrick, MIL, SP

There are no Paul Skenes or Shonta Imanagas or Spencer Schwellenbachs this year, as evidenced by the fact that the top rookie pitcher in WAR is Chad Patrick, and he has a 3-8 record in 2025. But his ERA is a strong 3.60, and he is striking out more than a batter per inning for the Milwaukee Brewers. He has helped them to the top of the NL standings in part due to a very low 9% HR/FB rate.

Will Warren, NYY, SP

Although teammate Cam Schlitter is coming on strong, Will Warren has given the Yankees 136 strong innings this year, including eight wins and almost 10 strikeouts per nine innings. He has been a strong groundball pitcher, with 43% of his balls in play going on the ground. His 4.30 ERA can be partially attributed to four walks per nine innings, but he is still averaging five innings per start.

Jack Leiter, TEX, SP

Jack Leiter is also over 120 innings this season, and is another pitcher who has struggled with walks this year. Top prospect Leiter is averaging more than 4.3 walks per nine innings, but he has kept the ball in the ballpark and is striking out a batter per inning. That has kept his ERA relatively low at 3.77, and only Tomoyuki Sagano has more than Leiter’s nine wins as a rookie.

Noah Cameron, KCR, SP

Although not a dominating strikeout pitcher, Noah Camerson has come in and been a force for the Kansas City Royals. He has pitched 108 innings in 19 starts (almost six innings per start), and has the lowest walk rate and highest left-on-base percentage of any pitcher on this list. Cameron has also controlled the walks since he has been in the big leagues, and he allows just 2.5 batters on base via free pass per nine innings.

Cade Horton, CHC, SP

Cade Horton only has 98 innings pitched heading into September, but he is 9-4, in part because he never allows home runs (0.82 HR/9) and has a 44.4% ground ball rate. In the second half, Horton has an incredible 0.86 ERA and is allowing opponents to slug just .240 against him. If he keeps these gains going into the 2026 season, Horton will be one of the best and sneakiest values in drafts next year.

Honorable mentions: Hustron Waldrep, Jacob Misiorowski, Cam Schlittler
