Fantasy Baseball Prospect Report – Week 5

Even though the fantasy baseball season is only about three weeks old, there has been no shortage of MLB prospects who have already found their way to Major League rosters. Players like Kristian Campbell, Cam Smith, Jasson Dominguez, and Matt Shaw broke camp with their clubs. Others, such as Zac Veen, Tim Tawa, and Henry Davis, have been called up due to injury.

With still five months left in the 2025 season, we are bound to see many more players graduate from the minor league level to their shot at the majors. Who deserves their time in the big leagues and who needs some more seasoning? This prospect report will provide a quick, weekly glance at MLB’s top hitter prospects and how they are performing in the minors.

As players graduate to the Major Leagues, new names will take their place as the season goes along. All stats are as of games completed on April 21. First, some news on recent call-ups that are relevant to fantasy baseball.

Fantasy Baseball Prospect News

Nick Kurtz, ATH, 1B

After smashing seven home runs with a 1.040 OPS this year in AAA, the Athletics promoted top prospect Nick Kurtz on Monday. He will likely make his debut on Tuesday, playing first base and pushing Brent Rooker to the outfield. His power should play right away in the minor league ballpark the Athletics currently call home in Sacramento.

Agustin Ramirez, MIA, C

Not often does a catcher prospect make it to the Major Leagues with both power and speed upside, but Agustin Ramirez is the exception. He is hitting .254/.313/.479 in AAA for Miami with three home runs and five steals this season. Last season, across the Yankees and Marlins minor league systems, Ramirez had 25 home runs and 22 steals. He had two hits in his Marlins debut on Monday.

Chandler Simpson, TBR, OF

Chandler Simpson’s minor league numbers almost don’t seem real. In 2024, he stole an incredible 104 bases in 110 games while hitting ..355/.410/.397. The Tampa Bay Rays called him up over the weekend, and he already has a steal and an RBI in two games. If your team needs average and speed, Simpson is a must-add.

Caleb Durbin, MIL, 3B

After being called up to the Brewers’ primary third baseman this weekend, Caleb Durbin hit his first Major League home run on Monday night. Primarily known as a high-average, high-speed infielder, his position looks safe in Milwaukee as long as he can get on base.

Fantasy Baseball Prospect Report

Roman Anthony, BOS, RF

After another good week, Roman Anthony – the number two prospect in baseball – is at .273/.415/.530 with four home runs and two steals. He will be in line for a promotion the first time a Red Sox outfielder is injured this year.

Walker Jenkins, MIN, OF

Walker Jenkins is still injured and has just eight plate appearances in AA with a .125/.125/.125 line.

Samuel Basallo, BAL, C

Samuel Basallo is starting to pick it up for Baltimore, and is now hitting .250/.318/.550 with two home runs in 22 plate appearances in AAA.

Dalton Rushing, LAD, C

Dalton Rushing is now hitting a robust .286/.383/.388 in AAA, but his issue has been a 30% strikeout rate. That must improve before the 24-year-old can come up.

Carson Williams, TBR, SS

The number five overall prospect, Carson Williams, is still struggling mightily at AAA this season. He is hitting .167/.301/.262. Like Rushing, his problem is strikeouts, and he has a 40% whiff rate this year.

Aidan Miller, PHI, SS

Aidan Miller is another young player struggling, this time he is in AA and hitting just .192/.288/.346, albeit with two home runs and a steal. At just 20 years old, he has some time to develop before he takes over for Trea Turner.

Jordan Lawlar, ARI, SS

The Arizona Diamondbacks offense is firing on all cylinders right now, so it’s not like they need Jordan Lawlar right now. But he is hitting .325/.423/.627 with five home runs in 98 plate appearances in AAA, and a call-up seems imminent. Arizona is just wasting his talents in AAA at this point.

Emmanuel Rodriguez, MIN, CF

The power has not yet arrived for Emmanuel Rodriguez in AAA as he has zero home runs in 69 plate appearances and is hitting .228/.362/.281. The 17.5% walk rate is offset by a 35% strikeout rate.

Coby Mayo, BAL, 1B/3B

Coby Mayo continues to do things that impress down in AAA, and he is now just biding his time until the Orioles need him to fill a spot in their lineup. He has an on-base percentage of .356 and is slugging .479 with four homers and a steal.

Jac Caglianone, KC, 1B

Jac Caglianone will likely get a promotion to AAA by midseason if he keeps hitting .258/.329/.484 with six extra base hits in 73 plate appearances. He may not make the Royals until late in the season, but he appears to be the DH of the future for Kansas City.

Marcelo Mayer, BOS, SS

So far, all of the Red Sox have stayed healthy, so Marcelo Mayer hasn’t been called up to the Major Leagues. It’s just a matter of time until he is needed, and he brings a little pop, a little speed, and a very-low 20% strikeout rate to the Major Leagues.

Kyle Teel, CHW, C

I’m sure the White Sox want a reason to promote Kyle Teel so they can have him get a look at Major League pitching, but he isn’t making a case for promotion. Teel is hitting just .214/.321/.414, although he does have three home runs.

Travis Bazzana, CLE, 2B

The top 2024 draft pick is doing just fine after starting in AA in his professional career. Bazzana is hitting .278/.371/.463 in AA and likely gets a promotion at least halfway through the summer. His 11% walk rate means he isn’t having trouble adjusting to professional pitchers.

Colson Montgomery, CHW, SS

The top White Sox hitting prospects are struggling right now, and Montgomery isn’t doing much better than Kyle Teel. Montgomery is hitting just .178/.241/.301 and is striking out 44% of the time.

Lazaro Montes, SEA, OF

At 20 years old, Montes needs a promotion out of A+ ball very quickly. He is hitting .268/.400/.607 with four home runs in 70 plate appearances. He should quickly make his way up the Mariners’ system and be ready by 2026 or 2027.

Thayron Liranzo, DET, C

Thayron Liranzo continues to struggle in AA at 21 years old, so he won’t be a threat to the Tigers’ roster anytime soon. Liranzo is batting .167/.333/.278. He has an awful 47% strikeout rate, which won’t work in the majors.

Kevin Alcántara, CHC, CF

Kevin Alcantara is heating up, especially on the base paths in AAA. He has five steals and is now batting .276/.368/.414 in 68 plate appearances. A 13% walk rate assures he will be on base plenty of times to pile up steals.
