Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Tuesday, April 15, 2025. In today’s edition, the Red Sox are dealing with a multitude of injuries, but they could have a reprieve in the near future. Also, Marcell Ozuna will (at least) miss most of this week, Kris Bryant once again makes his way to the Injured List, and we get a positive update on Sean Manaea. All of this and so much more in the Fantrax MLB Injury Report.

Boston Red Sox – Team Update
Some news from Alex Cora's pregame:
Fitts has a mild strain. No timetable.
Hendriks will pitch once more in Minors. Probably activated this weekend.
Giolito pitching in Hartford Tuesday, Bello Wednesday. That is likely the last start for Bello before activation.— Ian Browne (@IanMBrowne) April 14, 2025
Massive update here out of Boston. First, Richard Fitts has been diagnosed with a mild right pectoral strain. While the good news is that the condition is a mild one, there is still no timetable for his return, he may be replaced by Lucas Giolito or Brayan Bello, both of whom are mentioned here to have rehab appearances this week. It’s unclear if that is the case, but both Giolito and Bello are nearing their 2025 Major League debut for the Red Sox. Finally, this is great news for Liam Hendriks, who is nearing a debut with the Red Sox as well, and feels long overdue. He’s overcome many obstacles.
Kris Bryant – DH Colorado Rockies
I'm hearing that #Rockies DH Kris Bryant has lumbar degenerative disk disease and will go to the 10-day IL. Not sure what the treatment plan is. C Braxton Fulford will be added from Triple-A @ABQTopes.

This is just awful news that helps explain why Bryant hasn’t been able to stay healthy and on the field these past few years. As someone pretending to be a doctor, lumbar degenerative disc disease is something that wears down the vertebrae in one’s back to the point where the pain and other symptoms become unbearable. From the sound of it, surgery is an option, though it is unclear if that’s in the cards for Bryant at this time. Needless to say, he will likely miss extended time here.
Sean Manaea – SP New York Mets
Sean Manaea received an MRI today that showed improvement, and he resumed playing catch off flat ground. He will not, however, progress beyond that over the next 10 days. The Mets want to make extra sure he's fine before pushing him.
— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) April 14, 2025
The good news here is that Manaea is improving, as he has progressed to playing catch. The bad news is that he continues to show signs of his strained oblique, as he won’t be able to progress further than he already has for the next ten days. Keep in mind that he will also be starting from scratch and working through a “Spring Training” type workload in the Minor Leagues once he’s ready. That’s a long-winded way of saying that he has a long way to go.
Luis Gil – SP New York Yankees
The Yankees are hopeful Luis Gil will begin his throwing program on Wednesday or Thursday, Aaron Boone said.
— Bryan Hoch ⚾️ (@BryanHoch) April 14, 2025
The program for throwing will likely be similar to that of anyone who was beginning from scratch when pitchers and catchers report. What that means is that he will begin with light throwing until he extends his distances before side sessions, bullpens, and live bullpen sessions. Assuming that he doesn’t have any setbacks, we could see Gil return to the Yankees in June, but he has a long way to go.
Marcell Ozuna – DH Atlanta Braves
Brian Snitker says that Marcell Ozuna is headed back to Atlanta to get his hip checked out. He won't be available for the Blue Jays series.

— Barrett Sallee 🇺🇸 (@BarrettSallee) April 14, 2025
Earlier in the day, the Braves described Ozuna’s hip ailment as non-concerning, but here we learn that he won’t play until Friday because the team will be cautiously examining him. While the belief is still that the injury is not serious, it is noteworthy that he will not be playing much at all this week. While it’s unlikely that he stays off the Injured List, it’s not completely out of the question either.
Endy Rodriguez – C Pittsburgh Pirates
Derek Shelton says Endy Rodriguez got stitches after leaving the game in the first inning. An IL stint looks likely because of that.
— Danny Demilio (@Demilio22) April 15, 2025
The report does not state how long of an IL stint this could be, but chances are that he will not be gone for too long. It’s just unfortunate, as Rodriguez was looking to prove himself this year after missing all of last season with a different injury. Still, this shouldn’t be considered a major setback.
Max Scherzer – SP Toronto Blue Jays
Max Scherzer (thumb) is still feeling soreness after throwing recently, John Schneider says.
He’s going to visit with a doctor again in the coming days. #BlueJays
— Keegan Matheson (@KeeganMatheson) April 14, 2025
Scherzer pitched three innings worth of work back in March and has since received multiple cortisone shots and treatment to help alleviate the issue here. Nothing seems to be working here for him, and there is a chance that surgery is on the table given the renewed soreness. Stay tuned.
Daulton Varsho – OF Toronto Blue Jays
Daulton Varsho (Shoulder) played 6 innings in extended spring training game in OF.. didn't have to make any long throws in the gap, but just normal throws into the infield.. felt really good.. going to hit live BP tomorrow and then wife is having a baby on Wednesday.. (1/2)
— Hazel Mae (@thehazelmae) April 14, 2025
This was Varsho’s first in-game action in the field, as he is doing double duty here. The team is doing their part to help accommodate the birth of his child, and as such, he will officially suit up in the Minor Leagues once his family grows. Still, an extended spring training game is a great way to practice his ball tracking, timing, and throwing mechanics.
Blake Snell – SP Los Angeles Dodgers
Blake Snell is playing catch right now, his first time since landing on the IL eight days ago.
— Fabian Ardaya (@FabianArdaya) April 14, 2025
Good news here that Snell is no longer shut down and is able to begin his long journey back to the Dodgers. He has a long way to go, as this is the most basic of beginnings. However, the plan is for him to do this again later today.
