MLB Injury Report

Christian Yelich – OF Milwaukee Brewers

The news was as expected: Christian Yelich will miss significant time with an abductor strain. He is slated to miss at least a month, but given his extensive injury history, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him on the later end of this timeline. In fact, an early-June return isn’t completely out of the question. It’s unclear what the next steps for him are at this time.

Jackson Chourio – OF Milwaukee Brewers

Chourio had a follow-up appointment last week, and five days later, he is still not yet cleared to swing a bat. He did not have much of any time to prep in the spring, so he will undoubtedly need a rehab assignment to get his timing down right to track pitches and to also work on his mechanics. The early May timeline seems rather advantageous, given the circumstances.

Quinn Priester – SP Milwaukee Brewers

Tomorrow will be a big day for Priester, who has two types of innings planned as his next step in recovery. He’ll likely also need to do some ups and downs, too, to fully be ready for some live at-bats. The team would be wise to take things slowly here, given how he had thoracic outlet symptoms in the offseason. Participating in a long and rather extensive rehab assignment would be a great way for the team to do that.

Tatsuya Imai – SP Houston Astros

If there’s a team that needs good news, it’s the Astros, as their team is decimated from top to bottom. While the news of no structural damage is good, he still has quite a way to go. He will need to build strength in his arm and start a throwing progression before a potential rehab assignment is granted.

Josh Hader – RP Houston Astros

Good news, as Hader threw live BP to multiple Astros players. It’s unclear when and what the next step will be, but chances are he will need to do this again. How his body responds to this progressive step will be key. Stay tuned.

Nick Lodolo – SP Cincinnati Reds

Lodolo has been taking things noticeably slower since the recurrence of his blister. This likely indicates that whatever damage was done the second time around was significant. He last pitched on April 2, and if more time elapses, he may need more than one rehab game to be ready to return.

Zack Wheeler – SP Philadelphia Phillies

Wheeler cruised through most of his outing last night, stranding two runners in the sixth inning for inherited earned runs against. The nine strikeouts are encouraging, but this was against Double-A competition. Additionally, we don’t have any velocity readings here to support the outcome. All that being said, he is set to pitch another rehab start this Sunday. It’s unclear if that will be his last.

Nick Pivetta – SP San Diego Padres

Pivetta left Sunday’s start early, despite looking dominant. The hope was that he would be able to return for his next start or shortly after that, but ultimately, things didn’t improve, and this decision was made. The fact that they are still mulling over what to do next is somewhat concerning, as there are a multitude of possible outcomes here, with not a lot of them being positive. The team did say that they expect him to pitch again in 2026, but there are still five and a half months left in the season. With Matt Waldron taking over, Pivetta remains in limbo with respect to whether or not he can be dropped in leagues without IL spots. If a decision had to be made now, I would look elsewhere, but the opportunity to wait and see is the best answer here.

Jackson Holliday – 2B Baltimore Orioles

This should be considered a setback, as he is shut down for the time being. As such, it’s unclear how long the team will wait for him to get back into a rehab assignment. It’s unclear if this is a new injury or if this is because of him pushing too far, too fast, causing soreness around the area that was operated on. Either way, the Orioles will continue to opt for Jeremiah Jackson in his absence.

Ryan Pepiot – SP Tampa Bay Rays

Well, that escalated quickly. When he went on the Injured List, the belief was that it would be a quick designation. Instead, a few weeks later, we see that Pepiot wasn’t feeling that great or recovering well enough to warrant progression. He opted for an alternate treatment (an injection), and the hope is that this will help the issue subside. As such, the 60-Day designation will take him well into May, leading one to believe that this isn’t a minor issue at all. This has an ominous feel to it, but hopefully that’s just my imagination getting the best of me.

Kyle Teel – C Chicago White Sox

Great news here for Teel and the White Sox. It’s unclear exactly when it will start, but it’s evident that he is feeling better.

Willson Contreras – 1B Boston Red Sox

It was originally believed that Contreras left Tuesday’s game after getting hit by a pitch, but it was later confirmed to be because of back tightness. There weren’t any updates on the possibility of him returning for today’s game, but those should be provided throughout the day. This isn’t believed to be serious.

Ketel Marte – 2B Arizona Diamondbacks

This came a day after having a fantastic Monday game in which he hit two home runs. It’s unclear how serious this issue is, but given the fact that Marte has had injury problems in the past, this isn’t something to gloss over. That said, early reports have him returning to the lineup today, so it may not be that serious of an issue. Stay tuned.

Gabriel Moreno – C Arizona Diamondbacks

The expected move is now official, with Moreno set to miss time with an oblique injury. It’s unclear how severe the injury is, as we haven’t been privy to that just yet. Given his extensive injury history and the nature of the injury, it appears he will miss more than the 10-day minimum.
