Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Wednesday, April 23, 2025. In today’s edition, Christopher Sanchez left last night’s game with forearm soreness, Corey Seager left last night’s game with hamstring tightness, and Jose LeClerc left last night’s game with shoulder soreness. All of that and so much more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.
MLB Injury Report
Corey Seager – SS Texas Rangers
Corey Seager is going to get an MRI on his hamstring. The Rangers will know more about the severity of the injury tomorrow.
— Shawn McFarland (@McFarland_Shawn) April 23, 2025
Corey Seager injured his hamstring while running down the first baseline. He immediately grabbed it once he crossed the bag and was removed from the game altogether. The MRI today will reveal the extent of the injury, but it’s worth noting that he is no stranger to being on the Injured List. It feels like every single year, there is an issue preventing him from taking the next step in becoming one of baseball’s elite options at shortstop.
Spencer Strider – SP Atlanta Braves
Strider has a Grade 1 hamstring strain. This is the mildest of strains, but it will still take some time to heal. A timetable for return will be determined over the next couple weeks.
— Mark Bowman (@mlbbowman) April 22, 2025
This is relatively good news, in that because it is the mildest strain, it is the one that will likely consume the least amount of time for recovery. Still, hamstring issues with pitchers are tricky, in that they don’t allow a pitcher the right amount of flexibility and accessibility to keep their arms loose and on a regimented schedule. As such, there is a chance that Strider does need a rehab start to get himself back to some sort of normalcy. That being said, this is still good news, given that it could have been a lot worse.
Christopher Sanchez – SP Philadelphia Phillies
Cristopher Sánchez has left forearm soreness, the Phillies said. That is ominous. Ranger Suárez pitched five innings at Triple A tonight. His next start could be in the majors.
— Matt Gelb (@MattGelb) April 23, 2025
Sanchez lasted just two innings last night, throwing 58 pitches with reduced velocity. It was announced after his departure that it was because of this injury. The team will send updates as they have them, but all of these signs point to an extended absence for one of the most promising pitchers in baseball. Stay tuned.
Ranger Suarez – SP Philadelphia Phillies

Suarez had little to no problems in this outing, allowing just four baserunners over five innings of work. The one nugget to highlight here was that he was set to throw six innings and 75 pitches last night, but stopped prematurely. It’s unclear if that was intentional and plans changed, or if something prevented him from going further into the game. For all we know, he may have stopped throwing due to Sanchez’s injury, and the Phillies wanted to get him to the team as quickly as possible. Either way, this looks like a successful night here.
Royce Lewis – 3B Minnesota Twins
Royce Lewis continues to make progress from his hamstring strain. He did sprints on Monday and ran the bases again this afternoon. pic.twitter.com/Ub3vDngNKW
— Bobby Nightengale (@nightengalejr) April 22, 2025
Lewis continues to steadily progress, this time showing his skills with sprinting and running the bases. Those are two hurdles that he needed to clear before attempting a rehab assignment. There’s no word on when that will happen, but it would appear that it is getting close.
Pablo Lopez – SP Minnesota Twins
Pablo López (hamstring) said his rehab start Saturday went well and he threw a bullpen session today.
"I'm happy with where everything is."
No official word yet from the #MNTwins on when López will rejoin the rotation, but he's eligible to come off the injured list Thursday.
— Aaron Gleeman (@AaronGleeman) April 22, 2025
It is looking more and more like Lopez will be back when first eligible on Thursday. Stay tuned.
Giancarlo Stanton – OF New York Yankees

— Brendan Kuty 🧟♂️ (@BrendanKutyNJ) April 22, 2025
This was a big step forward for Stanton, who, wouldn’t you know it, has been progressing quite nicely as of late. He went from needing multiple injections and being shut down from any movement to now being able to take batting practice with the team. There’s no indication that he’s ready to do more than this, but it’s worth noting that he is getting better. He will need quite the extensive rehab assignment once he’s ready for in-game action, but for now, it’s good to know that the elbows are somewhat manageable.
Luis Rengifo – MI Los Angeles Angels
Luis Rengifo had a root canal yesterday so Ron Washington said that’s why he held him out of the lineup. He was cleared to play but Washington also wanted Kevin Newman a chance to play against a pitcher he hits well. He’s 5-for-11 vs Falter.
— Rhett Bollinger (@RhettBollinger) April 22, 2025
The good news is that dental surgery is not something that is likely to keep a player on the shelf for very long. We can expect Rengifo back in the lineup soon, and he is someone looking to bounce back from his porous start to the season.
Washington Nationals – Team Update
We'll have so NEW faces on this island tonight! ⭐
Mike Soroka and CJ Abrams are expected to make MLB Rehab assignments tonight in Harrisburg!
RHP Mike Soroka is expected to make a rehad start tonight for our game at 6:30pm!

Both players will be there for at least this game, and after Mike Soroka’s performance, they both might be there in time for his next. Soroka finished just 2.2 innings of work with two hits, one walk, and two earned runs allowed. While he did strike out three, he only threw 46 pitches, making it likely he will need at least one more start. He did hit 95 miles per hour, though at one point, which was a good sign. As for CJ Abrams, he finished hitless with two walks. Chances are, he returns before Soroka, but they could still be there this weekend.
Luis Garcia – SP Houston Astros
Luis Garcia is playing catch at Daikin Park right now.
— Chandler Rome (@Chandler_Rome) April 22, 2025
Garcia, who was shut down after trying to rehab from Tommy John Surgery in 2023, was able to resume some sort of physical activity here. While playing catch is just the beginning stages of any pitcher’s comeback, it’s important to note that he had to start somewhere. The good news is that he was able to do this and will look to build upon this in the coming days.
Jose Leclerc – RP The Athletics
José Leclerc left with right shoulder soreness.
— Martín Gallegos (@MartinJGallegos) April 23, 2025
The Athletics should have some updates on his status today, though, given his extensive injury history, a trip to the Injured List is surely not out of the question here.
