Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Wednesday, May 28, 2025. In today’s report, we get some conflicting news on Bryce Miller, some agony and potential relief on Bryce Harper, and great news for the Royals and their rotation. All of this and so much more in today’s MLB Injury Report from Fantrax.
MLB Injury Report
Bryce Miller – SP Seattle Mariners
Bryce Miller said he threw a bullpen yesterday, continues to “feel good” and believes he’s nearing a return to the Mariners’ rotation — potentially as soon as this weekend, though he hasn’t been told what his next step is.

This news was the most positive news we’ve heard regarding Miller in quite some time, as he’s been battling injuries for almost a year now. There was another report that stated Miller has figured out the source of his elbow inflammation, and that it has been alleviated. It was a bone spur in the back of his elbow, though it is unclear exactly how they took care of it without surgery. All that being said, I am not a doctor, so I can’t state anything other than my opinion here that I don’t believe that it has been rectified. There is a chance that the inflammation returns and we’re in the same position we’re in now soon. It also feels like surgery is the only option for him to finally get healthy. This is a long-winded way of saying that he is a massive sell in all formats right now.
Seattle Mariners – Team Update
M’s GM Justin Hollander injury updates:
— Logan Gilbert rehab assignment later this week.
— Luke Raley back to Seattle this week and likely rehab assignment week of June 3.
— Victor Robles to start strengthening in shoulder soon but expected return to Major League roster may…

Big update here with a lot of relevant information. First off, Logan Gilbert beginning his rehab assignment this week is fantastic news. He has been very cautious throughout his entire recovery process, and it doesn’t feel like that will change with the rehab assignment. Expect at least two starts as he ramps himself back up, and this first start will be three innings’ worth of work. His timeline will be based on how he feels with the ramp-up. As for Luke Raley, this is good progression, and his rehab assignment next week could mean a return shortly after that. Finally, it’s great news that the Mariners believe that Victor Robles will be back at some point this season.
Bryce Harper – 1B Philadelphia Phillies
Bryce Harper was removed with a right elbow contusion.
Phillies say X-rays were negative.

Harper got hit in the elbow by a Spencer Strider pitch in the first inning. The injury looked bad, but the news coming out of it was positive. It appears that they have avoided the worst, as it is just a contusion. Whether or not that turns into a bone bruise remains to be seen, but it looks like he is day-to-day. Big relief for the Phillies and fantasy owners everywhere.
Aaron Nola – SP Philadelphia Phillies
Aaron Nola said he still felt something in his sprained right ankle after lightly throwing off a bullpen mound. He’s hoping to be able to throw a higher-intensity bullpen session Thursday and conceded he’ll need a minor league tuneup before he starts again for the #Phillies.
— Scott Lauber (@ScottLauber) May 27, 2025
Nola feels like an absolute mess right now. He threw a light bullpen and possibly reaggravated his already ailing ankle. Now, with another bullpen on tap later in the week, he revealed that he will need a rehab assignment, too. It feels like that trip to the minor leagues will be just as much for his ankle as it will be for his timing, mechanics, and mental well-being.
Ketel Marte – 2B Arizona Diamondbacks
Ketel Marte out of lineup with flu per Torey Lovullo
— Jack Sommers (@shoewizard59) May 27, 2025
Marte is managing the illness on a day-to-day basis and may not return today. The hope is that this isn’t one of those illnesses that can keep him out of the lineup for much longer than your typical cough, cold, and/or flu.
Kansas City Royals – Team Update
Sounds like Seth Lugo will be ready to be activated this weekend against Detroit, as early as Friday. Cole Ragans not too far behind, but he might need a rehab start. Both are progressing well. #Royals
— Anne Rogers (@anne__rogers) May 27, 2025
This is good news all around for the Royals, who could use some stability in their rotation. Seth Lugo will return this weekend, though it’s unclear exactly when that will happen. As for Cole Ragans, he looks to be a full step behind the aforementioned Lugo, though he could be back after a rehab start. Essentially, we could see Lugo back for this scoring period and Rgans back for the next one.
Brendan Donovan – 2B St. Louis Cardinals
Brendan Donovan was scratched from tonight’s starting lineup because of hip tightness. He is expected to return by Wednesday, manager Oli Marmol said. https://t.co/cwdglgiXJh
— John Denton (@JohnDenton555) May 27, 2025
This was a last-minute scratch that resulted in some extra changes once the first lineup was released. The hope is that this isn’t something that will derail his strong start to the season. How he feels in the morning will go a long way in determining if and when he can return.
Nathan Eovaldi – SP Texas Rangers
Nathan Eovaldi left tonight's game with right triceps fatigue, per the Rangers.
The move was precautionary and he's not expected to miss time.
— Michael Bier (@MichaelJBier) May 28, 2025
Eovaldi threw just 39 pitches last night, scattering two hits and a walk over two innings pitched. Unfortunately, he was lifted early and will be monitored for the next few days for triceps tightness. While it’s encouraging that the belief is that he won’t miss any time, his health and progress should be closely monitored. He has had an extensive injury history, and as such, it felt like it would only be a matter of time before he went on the Injured List this year. While nothing has been officially diagnosed or suggested, there is a chance that fantasy owners will need to find a replacement in their rotation.
