MLB Injury Report
Houston Astros – Team Update
Some updates from Espada:
– Brown we’ll make another start next weekend at Sugar Land.
– McCullers has shoulder inflammation, and is still a no throw.
– Loperfido fouled a ball off his foot yesterday and probably won’t play until Wednesday.
– Hader has maybe two more outings…
— Brian McTaggart (@brianmctaggart) May 25, 2026
The Astros could use some good news. It would appear that for now, they’ve gotten some. First, Hunter Brown looked outstanding in his first rehab appearance, and the team has already decided that he will go again next week. He will likely need at least one more AFTER this appearance, but it all depends on how he feels and how many pitches he can throw. As for Lance McCullers, he is still shut down due to shoulder inflammation, and given his injury history, this is a huge red flag. Don’t expect him back anytime soon. Finally, while Joey Loperfido will return this week, the same can’t be said for Josh Hader. He needs more time, and the Astros are willing to give him as much of that as he needs. A June return seems the likeliest of scenarios.
San Diego Padres – Team Update
Musgrove and Pivetta updates from @sdutKevinAcee
Joe Musgrove plans to play catch next week. Nick Pivetta says he's probably a little further behind Joe when it comes to throwing again. Too early to put a timeline on when either will return, but the hope is late summer. pic.twitter.com/pXYx6Ophqe
— Talking Friars (@TalkingFriars) May 24, 2026
The Padres will be without two key pieces of their rotation for the next few months, as both Joe Musgrove and Nick Pivetta are nowhere near approaching mound work. The team is taking things slowly here, with good reason. That said, for a team that is looking to shed payroll and in need of starters, this isn’t an ideal situation for them.
New York Mets – Team Update
A bunch of Mets injury updates from Carlos Mendoza this afternoon:
Francisco Lindor has started running and doing baseball activities (fielding grounders, hitting, etc).
Francisco Alvarez is already hitting. He could be back well before the eight-week timetable. “He’s built…
— Max Goodman (@MaxTGoodman) May 25, 2026
A massive holiday grouping of news here on the Mets. Let’s go through these quickly. First, Francisco Lindor resuming baseball activities is a massive step forward. He’s a quick healer once he’s playing, so there’s a chance his progress speeds up here. That said, he’s been hurt before, and the team may opt to be as thorough as possible by checking off every box.
As for Francisco Alvarez, his impending return is a bit optimistic, given his injury history. That said, he’s beaten timetables before, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him do it again. Luis Robert Jr. is still doing absolutely nothing new, and it’s fair to assume that the Mets are feeling the way that the White Sox did for years. It doesn’t seem like he’ll be returning anytime soon.
Good news on Jorge Polanco; however, another report had Mendoza saying that he would be the team’s DH for most of his games upon his activation. That indicates that they understand that this is a fragile situation worth monitoring. Finally, Kodai Senga is looking to build off of his last rehab outing this Thursday. It hasn’t been announced at which level he’ll be throwing.
Sacramento Athletics – Team Update
A’s injuries:
– Jacob Wilson began a hitting progression and is playing catch. Ground ball work this week. No timetable.
– Max Muncy is taking BP on the field and doing infield drills. No timetable.
– Denzel Clarke will receive PRP shot tomorrow. Shut down from baseball activity.— Martín Gallegos (@MartinJGallegos) May 25, 2026
The biggest takeaway from this report is that the Athletics are no further along today than they were a while back with all of Jacob Wilson, Max Muncy, and Denzel Clarke. All three players will likely require a rehab assignment before they return to the lineup.
Los Angeles Dodgers – Team Update
More injury updates per Dave Roberts:
– “Hope” is for Max Muncy to be in the lineup on Wednesday
– Tommy Edman starts a rehab with OKC tomorrow. Expect him to take the full three weeks.
– Edwin Díaz is expected to start a throwing progression today or tomorrow https://t.co/BfuEmpG1q8— Fabian Ardaya (@FabianArdaya) May 25, 2026
Good news all around for the Dodgers. First, Max Muncy has recovered better than the team imagined from his injury this past weekend. His return seems imminent. As for Tommy Edman, he’s missed all season, but the fact that he’s able to start a rehab assignment is great. Fantasy managers shouldn’t be dismayed by the comment about him needing three weeks: he didn’t have a Spring Training. Finally, Edwin Diaz’s beginning to throw is a good sign that he is headed in the right direction. He does have a long way to go, though.
Tyler Glasnow – SP Los Angeles Dodgers
Tyler Glasnow has missed enough time in his build up that he will need a rehab assignment whenever he gets to that point, Dave Roberts said. https://t.co/BfuEmpG1q8
— Fabian Ardaya (@FabianArdaya) May 25, 2026
Great news that Glasnow played catch yesterday, as that shows he is hopefully ready to start ramping up his workouts. How he feels in the coming days will be key to helping decide the path to take. All that being said, he will need a rehab assignment, and that could tack on a couple of extra weeks to his recovery time.
Cal Raleigh – C Seattle Mariners
Cal Raleigh was slated for light catch play today, Dan Wilson just said.
That represents his first baseball activity since he was placed on the IL.
No timeline yet on his return, but sounds like he’ll remain in Arizona rehabbing for at least a little while longer.
— Daniel Kramer (@DKramer_) May 25, 2026
Raleigh has been shut down since he went on the Injured List on May 14, and now, almost two weeks later, he is finally cleared to begin baseball activities. Looking at what he accomplished, playing light catch is the most basic of all baseball-related activities, meaning that he must first progress to playing normal catch before anything else. It’s an apprehensive situation because anything too intense could set him back another week here. All that being said, he has a long way to go, especially since he plays a position where he will need to use his oblique after almost every pitch thrown.
Ryan O’Hearn – 1B/OF Pittsburgh Pirates
Ryan O'Hearn testing out his quad pregame. I'm not a doctor, but he's moving around pretty well. Quads are a funny thing and they're easy to reaggravate, but so far so good. 🤞🏴☠️#Pirates pic.twitter.com/FmmPZeF1CG
— ForTheCity_412 (@JimStamm22) May 25, 2026
The person writing this post on Twitter said it all: O’Hearn looked good pregame, but both he and the team have to be careful since quads are an easy thing to reaggravate. We should have more updates soon to see how the workout went and if the Pirates want him to intensify anything more next time around.
Shane Bieber – SP Toronto Blue Jays
Shane Bieber officially began his rehab assignment in the FCL earlier today. #BlueJays
▪️2.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB & 3 K
Bieber will be aiming for three innings next time out if he bounces back well following this outing.
— Thomas Hall (@Hall_Thomas_) May 25, 2026
This is a great sign that Bieber is headed in the right direction. The team will likely take things slowly with him, as he has had setbacks before and is returning from a long time away after a major operation. In the meantime, Spencer Miles could get some innings for the Jays as they scrounge around looking for pitchers, because….
Dylan Cease – SP Toronto Blue Jays
Blue Jays will be placing Dylan Cease on the IL with a mild left hamstring strain.
"It doesn't look too terrible, knock on wood," said manager John Schneider. "Just trying to be smart and not have it get worse. Don't know the exact timeline yet … hoping it's a minimal stay."
— Shi Davidi (@ShiDavidi) May 25, 2026
The team doesn’t believe that Cease will miss much time, but we’ve seen instances before where mild hamstring strains lead to at least a month away. The problem here, as said many times before, is that a pitcher has difficulty keeping his arm loose enough while he has an ailing hamstring. If he does throw too soon, he can easily reaggravate his hamstring, causing more time off than originally needed. As such, chances are that he will need time on a rehab assignment to recoup what he once had.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. – 1B Toronto Blue Jays
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. isn't in starting lineup due to continued soreness after being hit on the inside of right elbow yesterday.
He remains "day-to-day," said Schneider. "See how he feels as the day goes on, but didn't want to push it with him just in talking to him last night…
— Shi Davidi (@ShiDavidi) May 25, 2026
Consider Guerrero day-to-day, until we hear otherwise. He has yet to go on the Injured List in his career, and is usually able to tough these things out.
