MLB Injury Report

Ketel Marte – 2B Arizona Diamondbacks

Diamondbacks reporter Jack Sommers adds some important context here. Marte missed yesterday’s game with back stiffness, as he was a late scratch from the lineup. Knowing that he’s suffered from this before and that he’s had himself quite the week of nursing this injury, there’s a chance that he misses additional time either as a day-to-day issue or worse, time on the Injured List. Stay tuned.

Ronald Acuna Jr. – OF Atlanta Braves

If Acuna does in fact return today, he will finish his minor league rehab assignment hitting .217 with one home run and one stolen base. Those aren’t necessarily the most encouraging of numbers, but they do highlight the fact that he is out there playing and getting his timing back. That being said, the second piece of news regarding the Braves star player is somewhat concerning. He ended an at-bat with a strikeout and was seen limping toward the dugout. It’s worth mentioning too that he was placed on the Injured List with a lower-body injury, so this isn’t an insignificant development. Whether or not anything comes from this is too hard to tell. There have been no further updates on his status postgame, so be sure to look for that throughout the day. Of note in the same game, Ha-Seong Kim went 0-for-1 with two walks while AJ Smith-Shawver tossed five innings of one-run ball. Both of them are rehabbing from their respective injuries, but neither has been noted of being close to a return to the Braves.

Sean Murphy – C Atlanta Braves

The news here isn’t fantasy relevant…yet. With the trade deadline around the corner, the Braves may look to deal him away to a catcher-needy team to help the needs of their own. Drake Baldwin has been a stud, and his position as the team’s primary catcher is not in jeopardy, even if Murphy isn’t dealt.

Jac Caglianone – OF Kansas City Royals

This is good news regarding a potentially scary situation. Caglianone crashed into the outfield wall on Tuesday and missed both Wednesday’s game and last night’s game. That said, there weren’t any other updates after his pregame swings, with the belief that no news is good news. We should find out more before today’s game, but for now, consider these events a positive development.

Corey Seager – SS Texas Rangers

The Rangers have been taking things slowly with Seager, as this has been an ongoing issue for quite some time. Taking live batting practice this weekend will be a big step forward for him, as it will be a real way to test out his back. Stay tuned.

Patrick Corbin – SP/RP Toronto Blue Jays

Corbin had been somewhat effective in long relief, but this injury will almost certainly end his 2026 season. There’s also a chance that he calls it a career, as he didn’t have any suitors in the offseason and only got this job because the Jays were ravaged by injuries.

Max Scherzer – SP Toronto Blue Jays

Scherzer has missed significant time because of back and thumb issues. However, he fired off a five-inning no-hitter earlier in the week, and as such, both he and the team may feel that the time is right and he is at his most ready stage. At age 41, there may not be a more perfect time than this to get the best out of Scherzer, so it makes sense not to use up these innings in the minors and see what they can get out of him up here where they need him most. Not only that, the Jays have lost the aforementioned Patrick Corbin for a significant amount of time; he may be ready out of necessity here. Given the length and severity of his injuries this year, he is far too volatile to trust.

Addison Barger – OF Toronto Blue Jays

Barger has been sidelined with elbow and back issues that may cost him his season. He remains out indefinitely and is one of this season’s most disappointing stories.
