MLB Report
Shohei Ohtani – SP/DH Los Angeles Angels
Training staff reported Shohei Ohtani had soreness in his left knee after last nights game so decision was made to give him day off Thursday #Dodgers Dave Roberts said
— Bill Plunkett (@billplunkettocr) July 30, 2026
This is the first time the team has given him a day off because the soreness in his knee was too much to bear. It remains to be seen if this will linger or worsen, requiring an extension into a trip to the Injured List. That said, the team has made it clear that they are confident in him returning to the lineup today. Chances are he won’t miss significant time here, but fantasy baseball managers would be wise to check in first on Friday before setting their weekend lineup.
Boston Red Sox – Team Update
From Chad Tracy today:
–Curtis Mead's wrist is in a cast. Non-displaced fracture. They will re-evaluate in 4 weeks.
–Roman Anthony is swinging a bat. 30 swings, feels good. Important step forward for him.— Tom Caron (@TomCaron) July 30, 2026
Good news all around here for the Red Sox. First, Curtis Mead’s fracture is a non-displaced one, meaning that it’s easier for the recovery to take place and that part of the bone did not break away completely. We will know more in the coming weeks, but it’s hard to put much value in the rest of his season. As for Roman Anthony, after a long time away, he is finally swinging off of a tee. Now, he’s not in the clear just yet, despite yesterday feeling good enough to feel the need to carry on his rehabilitation. He’s unfortunately had many setbacks that have come days after trying something out. Let’s hope that he can clear these hurdles and get back to his recovery process.
Shane McClanahan – SP Tampa Bay Rays
On the broadcast, @Kendra_Melinda reports Shane McClanahan left with mid-back tightness.
That is great news, in big picture. Nothing arm related.
I wonder if Rays play it conservatively and give him short-term IL stint? Have to manage his innings anyway.
Considered day-to-day.
— Evan Closky (@ECloskyWTSP) July 30, 2026
Shane McClanahan left Thursday’s game early with what looked like an arm injury. However, it was revealed later on that it was, in fact, due to mid-back tightness. While this is still something that needs to be addressed, all of this is considered good news, especially when it comes to someone with an extensive injury history like McClanahan. There is still a chance that he misses time here, and he will have to be re-evaluated, but all in all, this is a much better predicament now than it was during the game.
Kyle Harrison – SP Milwaukee Brewers
Kyle Harrison’s night is done after 5.2 innings. Struck out 5 and didn’t allow a run.
His next start will be next week in Milwaukee. Just like a deadline acquisition.
— Curt Hogg (@CyrtHogg) July 31, 2026
Harrison made a rehab start last night and looked great in the process. He said afterward that he felt fine physically, almost like nothing was different than it should have been. All looks good here, and his next start will be at some point next week. The only word of caution here would be to keep an eye on any setbacks in the coming days. See how he feels in the coming days, just in case some pain returns. That being said, this is great, and his anticipated return to the Brewers can’t come soon enough.
Nick Lodolo – SP Cincinnati Reds
Terry Francona said Nick Lodolo is going to face hitters for two or three innings of a live BP.
Blake Dunn is going to have elbow surgery.
Brandon Williamson will start a rehab assignment on Saturday.
— Charlie Goldsmith (@CharlieG__) July 30, 2026
Today is a big day for Lodolo, as he will attempt to throw up to three innings of live batting practice. In addition to this, he will also be working on a new grip to see if the (hopefully receded) blister is an issue. If all goes according to plan, he could begin a rehab assignment soon and then be back with the Red shortly after that.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. – 2B New York Yankees
Jazz Chisholm Jr. was dealing with cramps, Aaron Boone said. Trainers don’t believe it is a major issue.
— Bryan Hoch ⚾️ (@BryanHoch) July 30, 2026
Chisholm Jr. left yesterday’s game early with what was originally believed to be something serious. Instead, it looks like he is day-to-day with cramps, inciting relief among fantasy baseball managers and Yankees fans everywhere. Still, it would be wise to ensure this is nothing more than a minor occurrence before setting weekend lineups. Essentially, I am saying to do your homework before submitting the test.
Corey Seager – SS Texas Rangers
Providing Corey Seager has no additional issues today, Rangers plan is activate him in Houston on Friday.
— Evan Grant (@Evan_P_Grant) July 30, 2026
Normally, I would leave the comment here with a reminder to be prepared for his impending return. However, two things happened during his short time in the minor leagues. First, he hit a massive home run, displaying some of that power we’ve grown to know and love from him over the years. Secondly, he made a tremendous defensive play, showing athleticism and agility to get to a groundball before firing it over to first base. All of that makes him look much healthier now than he did in prior times when he was coming back from his back injury. All that being said, be wary of this return, but consider him a nice buy-low right now.
Josh Jung – 3B Texas Rangers

Things have taken a turn for the worse here with Jung, as his calf strain continues to be an ever-present and persistent problem. At first, it wasn’t believed to be serious, but the fact that it isn’t going away or improving is somewhat concerning. He does have an extensive injury history and isn’t known to return from injuries quickly, so this could linger on and on, even past the trade deadline.
Connelly Early – SP Washington Nationals
Connelly Early threw a 30-pitch bullpen on Wednesday. He’s here in Atlanta so he can be around / get to know the team, but he’ll likely get sent out over the next few days so he can throw to hitters.
— Spencer Nusbaum (@spencernusbaum_) July 30, 2026
Throwing a 30-pitch bullpen isn’t nothing, and is an increasingly good sign that he will pitch for the Nationals this season. There should be updates within the coming days expressing what the next steps are for him and when the team anticipates them happening. Stay tuned.
Jake Rogers – C Baltimore Orioles
The Tigers traded catcher Jake Rogers to the Baltimore Orioles for minor-league RHP Zane Barnhart.
Barnhart has been assigned to Double-A Erie.
— Evan Woodbery (@evanwoodbery) July 30, 2026
Normally, a catcher who is batting .161 with minimal power isn’t worth much of a discussion. However, with both Samuel Bassallo and Adley Rutschman dealing with injuries and the trade deadline right around the corner, there’s a chance Rogers could be an everyday starting catcher for Baltimore.
