MLB Injury Report
Hunter Greene – SP Cincinnati Reds
Terry Francona said Hunter Greene is going to the spring training facility to rehab. There’s no new injury, but there are still symptoms. Francona said that Greene has to feel confident. “There’s no roadmap” for the next step in his progression.
— Charlie Goldsmith (@CharlieG__) July 9, 2025
Francona: “If he’s felling something, we’ve got to get him… whether it’s not so much pain as feeling kind of tired for fatigued. We’ve got to give him a chance to get that out of there.”
“They think, and he has talked to doctors and things like that, as the load increases,…

Quotes like these make it very difficult to project a return date for Hunter Greene. It’s concerning because he’s still experiencing symptoms of his recent groin strain, which has plagued him for some time now. Having injured and reinjured himself, it’s no wonder that the Reds are ensuring that he is 100% before even considering a return. The team seems perplexed here, but what’s more important is that they are patient. For those fantasy players who roster him, patience is the recommended path as well.
Jake Meyers – OF Houston Astros
Jake Meyers, who missed the last two games with a calf ailment, is leaving the field during pregame warmups with his arm around a trainer's shoulder for support. He is walking straight out of the right-field corner, not to the clubhouse.

The Astros will seemingly lose a very part of their outfield for the foreseeable future, as Meyers couldn’t even make it off the field on his own accord. There are concerns that he was brought back too soon, which calls into question the very structure of how the Astros handle their medical issues. We’ve seen players misdiagnosed, improperly handled, and rushed back. When will it end?
Byron Buxton – OF Minnesota Twins
Rocco Baldelli on Byron Buxton's hand:
"It looks like he's going to be OK. He had some imaging done and it came back all right. He was pretty sore, though, so we'll see."https://t.co/bN3IkaZTjc

From the sounds of it, Buxton should be okay and ready to play shortly. However, with so little time in between now and the All-Star Break, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him sit out some or all of these games. Given his extensive injury history, there’s a decent chance that he misses at least one or two games to help alleviate the inflammation in his hand. He has been healthy all season, and we are witnessing what we’ve always believed could happen if he were to stay on the field: greatness.
Los Angeles Dodgers – Team Update

Big updates here. While it doesn’t necessarily feel like this is an injury update, it’s important to remember that Shohei Ohtani’s starts here should be considered as rehab appearances, as he can’t leave the team to start in the minor leagues. As such, his next rehab appearance will be this weekend. As for Blake Treinen and Blake Snell, great news on both of them. A reminder that Treinen’s appearances will likely be shorter in length because he is a reliever, and as such, he should be ready to return sooner than Snell. Finally, while Teoscar Hernandez isn’t expected back until tomorrow, it’s worth noting that he did appear for an at-bat yesterday. He was immediately pulled after walking.
Baltimore Orioles – Team Update
Orioles injury updates from Tony Mansolino:
• Zach Eflin (back) to pitch in a rehab game Sunday
• Keegan Akin (shoulder) will likely go on rehab assignment after AS break
• Adley Rutschman (oblique) hit off tee today, but not swinging at 100%
•No updates on Grayson Rodriguez— Jacob Calvin Meyer (@jcalvinmeyer) July 9, 2025
Great news on Zach Eflin here, who figures to be ready to return shortly after the All-Star Break. As for Keegan Akin, this report was written before the news came out regarding his setback. As such, Akin will be shut down for up to a week after receiving an injection in his injured shoulder. Finally, Adley Rutschman hitting off a tee today is a step forward, as now his swings have made contact with a ball. The next step will be throwing the ball toward him and seeing how he feels.
Brandon Lowe – 2B Tampa Bay Rays
It’s caution, not concern for the #Rays and Brandon Lowe. My update on the All-Star second baseman, and if he’ll return to the lineup in Boston 👇🏻 pic.twitter.com/IoFmi0S3eU
— Ryan Bass (@Ry_Bass) July 9, 2025
Caution, not concern. That’s the approach that the Rays are taking here, especially considering he was out for an extended period last year. As such, the team wants to ensure that he is 100% ready to return. It’s encouraging that he’s been able to swing the bat throughout the week, so he is seemingly trending in the right direction here. Still, both he and the team do not want him to miss months and weeks, so they’ll be happier if he only misses days.
Max Kepler – OF Philadelphia Phillies
Max Kepler left the game with a bruised right shin.

There wasn’t much news regarding this injury after the game. This could very well be something that is easily healed with today’s day off.
