Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Wednesday, August 12, 2026. In today’s edition, the Yankees gave a lot of updates yesterday that included potential timelines for returns for their stars, the Red Sox continue to trudge along with their playoff hopefuls, and the Rays got some good news (I think) regarding Griffin Jax. You can read about all of this and more in today’s MLB Injury Report from Fantrax.

New York Yankees – Team Update
Aaron Boone said it's "probably" reasonable to expect that Cody Bellinger, Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge to return in that order.
Bellinger is not "too far off" but still dealing with some tightness, Boone said. And there's "a chance" Stanton will need a rehab assignment.…

Big update yesterday on three key pieces to the Yankees’ offense. As mentioned, Cody Bellinger is getting close to a return, but the longer he has tightness, the more likely it is that he’ll require a rehab assignment. As for Giancarlo Stanton, he ran the bases yesterday, but years of experience with him tell us any progress doesn’t necessarily mean he’s that much closer to a return. As for Aaron Judge, it’s anyone’s guess as to whether or when he’ll return this season. He’s adamant that he will be back, but players have been wrong before. That being said, if the Yankees can get all three of these players back for the playoffs, they will be a force to be reckoned with in the playoffs.
Carlos Rodon – SP New York Yankees

— Talkin' Yanks (@TalkinYanks) August 11, 2026
Rodon threw 46 pitches last time he threw and will likely need at least another start after this scheduled one to be stretched out for a starter’s workload.
Boston Red Sox – Team Update
Injury updates via #RedSox manager Chad Tracy ❤️🩹 ⬇️
• Roman Anthony has begun hitting off the Trajekt machine, "getting closer" to a rehab assignment, but "don't want to put a timetable on it"
• Trevor Story was able to ramp up the intensity after a regen day, "creeping… pic.twitter.com/GSeiNz1jhi— NESN (@NESN) August 11, 2026
Three big pieces of news here, though the biggest by far is that of Roman Anthony. He has progressed to hitting off the Trakjet machine, which is aimed at simulating a live batting practice experience. While it’s not quite like the real thing, it’s good enough in the sense that it should challenge him when hitting to attack different pitches and spin rates. It’s unclear when he will return, but every day we don’t see a setback is a good one. That said, there’s very little wiggle room here for setbacks. As for Trevor Story, while he’s struggled this season, he is probably an upgrade over Andruw Monasterio, despite the latter’s recent success. The veteran has had many injuries before, and even when he’s back, there’s no guarantee that he won’t get injured again. Finally, with Garrett Crochet, the team is more concerned about his status for the playoffs, so there is absolutely no rush here.
Kyle Stowers – 1B Miami Marlins

— Kevin Barral (@kevin_barral) August 11, 2026
The good news here is that the injury happened to Stowers’ left leg, and not the right one where a similar injury took place to start the season. Full context: I originally tweeted this out, and Kevin Barral, who covers the Marlins (quite well, I might add), replied to me about how much Stowers believes he will be back within the ten-day minimum, or around that. While Kevin is more in tune to the Marlins beat than I will ever be, I wanted to mention that his Grade 1 hamstring strain to start the season cost him 27 days.
Trey Yesavage – SP Toronto Blue Jays
Trey Yesavage had surgery to repair his meniscus. He’ll be week to week, Schneider said. #BlueJays not ruling him out for the year.
— Mitch Bannon (@MitchBannon) August 11, 2026
As mentioned, Yesavage is week-to-week, and the end of the year has yet to be ruled out. Chances are that if he does return, it’s for some peace of mind to ensure that he enters the offseason healthy. That said, it’s not an arm injury, so they may not even need that peace of mind after all. Tough to say, but he’s likely someone to drop in redraft formats.
Griffin Jax – SP Tampa Bay Rays
BREAKING: Good news on #Rays Griffin Jax after visiting with Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas: He got an injection to “calm the back of the elbow down,” Kevin Cash said.
“I feel like he’s in a really good spot,” Cash added. “We’ll take the ball out of his hand for two more days and…
— Ryan Bass (@Ry_Bass) August 12, 2026
The team seems relieved and believes that Jax can begin a throwing program later this week. It’s unclear if he will start by just playing catch or if he will skip the beginning stages of most throwing programs and go right to the mound. The inflammation needs to go down first, and the belief is that the injection will do that over the next few days. Call me pessimistic, but I won’t see him out of the woods just yet, but perhaps this injection will be enough to keep him healthy for the remainder of the season.
James Wood – OF Washington Nationals
The Nationals do not expect James Wood to be ready to come off the IL later this week when he’s eligible, Butera said. He took stationary dry balls and threw out to 45’over the weekend. He’ll take dry swings today
— Danielle Allentuck (@d_allentuck) August 11, 2026
While not getting Wood back this week isn’t great, it’s still good to see him taking positive steps forward and getting closer. It’s hard to put a date on any return here, but with the Nationals contending and needing his bat, it’s fair to say the final five weeks of the season could see the superstar in the Washington lineup.
Nick Kurtz – 1B Sacramento Athletics
It’s looking unlikely for Nick Kurtz to return this season. His PRP injection on Aug. 4 went well, but he has to be in a brace for four weeks after that. Kotsay: “Four weeks of no mobility. You probably can do the timeline and think through the scenarios in front of us for Nick.”
— Martín Gallegos (@MartinJGallegos) August 11, 2026
Sad news for the Athletics and for fantasy managers everywhere, who will miss his power down the stretch. If you haven’t already dropped him in redraft leagues, feel free to do that now.
Riley Greene – OF Detroit Tigers
Riley Greene is being evaluated after exiting the game due to right hamstring tightness.
— Detroit Tigers (@tigers) August 12, 2026
Greene was hit by a pitch on his leg, and he later exited because of hamstring tightness. It’s tough to make the connection between the two, but either way, this could be a big blow for the Tigers if he’s out for a significant amount of time.
