The Atlanta Braves ended last season with an 89-73 record, which was good for second place in the NL East. Still, it was a tough season without Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuña Jr. This offseason they brought in Jurickson Profar to bolster their lineup. They’ll be hoping for more help as they aim to finish atop the division. In this article, we’ll run through the top 20 Atlanta Braves prospects that might be adding to their Major League riches shortly.
This is one of the more interesting farm systems in the game heading into 2025. Of the 20 prospects ranked, just four of them are hitters. Three of those four hitters rank inside the top 10. It’s a very pitching-heavy system. Atlanta doesn’t need many reinforcements with their hitting, although Drake Baldwin should see time early.
After you get done here please check out our full lineup of 2025 Organizational Prospect Rankings.
Top 20 Atlanta Braves Prospects for Dynasty Leagues
1. C Drake Baldwin, Age: 23
There are a lot of catchers who look like they have the chops to be one of the next top fantasy baseball backstops. Drake Baldwin is usually ranked in the back of top 100 prospects lists. Last season he slashed .276/.370/423 with 16 home runs in the upper minors. His strikeout and walk numbers were good, too. At this point, the only thing holding Baldwin back is an opportunity alongside Sean Murphy in Atlanta. The top two catching prospects entering the year are Samuel Bassallo and Mosies Ballesteros, but Baldwin has a case to be in the group of players right behind them in terms of the position. Sean Murphy sustained a broken rib after getting hit by a pitch, opening the door for Baldwin to start regularly from the outset of the season.

2. RHP AJ Smith-Shawver, Age: 22
It was a shorter path to the majors for AJ Smith-Shawver than would be expected for a high school seventh-rounder. After being selected in 2021, he was able to debut in 2023 for 25.1 innings then another four innings in 2024. Smith-Shawver can touch triple digits with his fastball, which when paired with his offspeed pitches led to good strikeout rates in the minor leagues. If his command cooperates, he could turn into a high strikeout arm in the majors as well, though that hasn’t manifested itself yet. That being said there is still not an obvious place he fits into the rotation right off the bat in 2025.

3. RHP Hurston Waldrep, Age: 23
After a good season at Florida, Hurston Waldrep was taken by Atlanta 24th overall in 2023. He ascended quickly and even made his MLB debut. Things did not go well during his seven innings at the level. In the minors last year he posted a 3.47 ERA with a 9.35 K/9 in 93.1 innings. Waldrep’s fastball tops out in the upper 90s with an electric splitter. Command is a major question, but his stuff is good and he is an option for the big league club when they need a pitcher. Though Waldrep more than likely starts in Triple-A.

4. LHP Cam Caminiti, Age: 18
The 24th overall pick in the 2024 draft made his debut in Single-A as a 17-year-old after signing. Caminiti struck out four batters across his three-inning debut. Prep pitchers are always a risk, but Caminiti has a lot going for him already. As a lefty, he can touch 98 MPH with a great changeup. There’s a lot to be excited about as the southpaw heads into his first professional season, where he should head back to Single-A once again.

5. RHP Owen Murphy, Age: 21
Atlanta has a lot of really good pitchers at the top of this list and Owen Murphy has shown he’s more than worthy of being among them. He threw 41 innings in High-A last season with a 1.54 ERA, a 13.17 K/9, and a 2.63 BB/9. Murphy’s incredible season in the making was cut short with a torn UCL. That means he’s out for most, if not all of 2025. When he does return, he’ll look to return to form.

6. 2B Nacho Alvarez Jr., Age: 21
There is no clear path to regular playing time in Atlanta for Nacho Alvarez Jr., but he is likely to be with the team at some point during the 2025 season. He was able to debut last year for eight games before being sent back to Triple-A. In the upper minors last season Alvarez Jr. slashed .284/.391/.401 with 10 home runs and 26 stolen bases. He’s a contact hitter who controls the zone very well. His defensive versatility will be helpful, as he’s played all over the infield as a professional.

7. RHP Didier Fuentes, Age: 19
Following a down year in his Single-A debut in 2023, Didier Fuentes returned to the level as a 19-year-old and posted huge numbers. In 75.2 innings he had a 2.74 ERA with a 11.66 K/9 with a 2.50 BB/9. He generates whiffs with a fastball that can touch 97 MPH with a solid slider. While the numbers look good, Fuentes is a command-over-stuff pitcher. Should he continue to develop his offspeed pitches then he has a high rotation ceiling. He should head to High-A in 2025.

8. RHP JR Ritchie, Age: 21
Tommy John surgery cut JR Ritchie’s 2023 short after just 13.1 innings and ate into a chunk of the 2024 season as well. When he returned last season, he threw 49.2 innings with a 2.90 ERA with a 10.15 K/9. The success was good to see, and Ritchie should continue to improve back to pre-surgery form with time. After just 10 innings in High-A, he will likely return there to start the year and with success should see Double-A at some point.

9. RHP Lucas Braun, Age: 23
Outside of the top pitchers on this list, Lucas Braun has the most experience in the upper minors. In Double-A last year he threw 79.1 innings with a 2.38 ERA with a 9.87 K/9. He’s a strike thrower who keeps his walk numbers low, which is his biggest strength on the mound. His fastball is in the mid-90s at its best with a good slider. Braun profiles as a back-of-the-rotation arm in the majors and should see Triple-A this season.
Lucas Braun is settling in nicely. He strikes out the side in the 2nd. 💪

10. OF Diego Tornes, Age: 16
Atlanta’s biggest signing during the International Free Agency period this year, Diego Tornes, got a signing bonus close to $2.5 million. He’s projected to be a power-over-hit outfielder with signs of being a good hitter too. Tornes is a toolsy outfielder, but for dynasty baseball managers it will take several years to get a good grasp on where his ceiling truly is.
Diego Tornes left Cuba at the age of 13 in 2021. He spent three years in the Dominican Republic at Alex Sanchez Academy.
He’s the #5 talent on our list and the most powerful switch hitter. A potential 5-tool player.

11. RHP Drue Hackenberg, Age: 22
The Hackenbergs are an athletic family that includes a pair of professional baseball players, a professional football player, and a professional soccer player. Soon, that list could include a major league baseball player in Drue Hackenberg. He finished last season in Triple-A where he walked nearly as many batters as he struck out, but still posted a 1.52 ERA in 23.2 innings. Over the whole season, he threw 129 innings with a 10.05 K/9 and a 4.33 BB/9 with a 3.07 ERA. Hackenberg should head back to Gwinnett, but can be ready for Atlanta should they need a starter.

12. RHP Jhancarlos Lara: Age: 22
Over his three seasons as a pro, Jhancarlos Lara has compiled 246 strikeouts in 194.1 innings. His ability to rack up strikeouts has been consistent at each level. Unfortunately, so has his command issues. Last season he reached Double-A where he compiled a 3.92 ERA with a 10.23 K/9 and 6.53 BB/9 in 82.2 innings. Lara’s fastball can touch triple digits and his slider is just as big a weapon. The command is a definite issue, but his penchant for strikeouts gives him an intriguing fantasy ceiling regardless of what role he winds up in.
This is Jhancarlos Lara's empire 🐧

13. RHP Rolddy Munoz, Age: 24
The twin brother of Marlins pitcher Roddery Munoz, Rolddy Munoz was added to Atlanta’s 40-man roster this offseason. He pitched in both High-A and Double-A last season, totaling 51 innings with a 13.24 K/9 and a 4.24 ERA. Munoz is a pure relief prospect, but the fact that he is on the 40-man roster and could find himself in the major league bullpen this year gives him a value bump in fantasy for the upcoming year, particularly in a pitcher-heavy system.

14. RHP Garrett Baumann, Age: 20
Garrett Baumann is an imposing 6-foot-8 presence on the mound who can get his fastball into the upper 90s. Behind that fastball, Baumann threw for a 21.9 percent strikeout rate with a six percent walk rate in 92 Single-A innings. He did throw seven shutout innings in a one start in High-A as well. Most likely he heads back to Rome to start 2025.

15. RHP Blake Burkhalter, Age: 24
The 76th overall pick in the 2022 draft missed 2023 with Tommy John surgery before returning to action in 2024 where he posted a 3.00 ERA in 72 innings. Much of that season was spent in High-A where Blake Burkhalter struck out 8.14 batters per nine. His fastball topped out at 98 MPH and fills up the zone well. There is effort in Burkhalter’s delivery that means he could wind up a reliever down the road.

16. LHP Carter Holton, Age: 22
After a good career at Vanderbilt Atlanta selected Carter Holton in the second round in 2024. He threw two innings after signing but then underwent Tommy John surgery that will sideline him for the entirety of the 2025 season. Prior to surgery, he was in the upper-90s with good breaking pitches. Holton was billed with rotation upside before the injury.
With the 62nd overall pick, the Atlanta Braves selected LHP Carter Holton. Explosive FB up to 97 with carry, CB is 2dary weapon against RHH. Flashes depth. SL go-to against LHH, plus pitch w/late lateral bite. Upped CH usage and got positive results. pic.twitter.com/NCr95TgXJl

17. RHP Luke Sinnard, Age: 22
Much like Baumann, Luke Sinnard represents another pitcher with a big 6-foot-8 frame. He was Atlanta’s third-rounder in 2024. They were able to get him later than he was originally projected because of Tommy John surgery in his draft season. Sinnard is billed with rotation upside, which he will have a chance to put on display with a healthy 2025. Prior to the injury, he showed a good feel for his secondaries to play off of his mid-90s fastball.

18. RHP Elison Joseph, Age: 24
Another relief prospect, Elison Joseph has been posting huge strikeout numbers. Between High-A and Double-A last season he saved seven games with a 34.1 percent strikeout rate. His command is an issue with high walk rates. If Joseph can bring his walk rates down he has the potential to be a high-leverage relief option thanks to a triple-digit fastball and big slider.

— Mississippi Braves (@mbraves) July 10, 2024
19. SS John Gil, Age: 18
Atlanta signed John Gil as part of their 2023 IFA class. Between the Complex and Single-A last year he slashed .250/.358/.330 with three home runs and 40 stolen bases. Gil is a contact-oriented hitter with a 12.7 percent walk rate. With his contact and speed skills, he could be a player who helps in certain fantasy categories. He should head back to Single-A to start the season after hitting .204 at the level.
Braves' John Gil just turned 18 and moved up to Single-A Augusta. He's adjusting well, with 6 hits in his last 3 games, and Gil only struck out once in his last 7 games. Has good timing with his swing and solid bat speed. Good athlete with solid EVs for his age. pic.twitter.com/5djSL9Ecj0
— Chris Clegg (@ChrisCleggMiLB) August 18, 2024
20. RHP Adam Maier, Age: 23
Between Single-A and High-A last season Adam Maier threw 83.1 innings with an 8.42 K/9 with a 4.10 ERA in his professional debut. He has some very good stuff highlighted by a very high spin slider. There is a long way to go, but with his big breaking ball, he has a pitch that can be used for whiffs. Maier may not be a rotation option long-term, and there’s a lot of risk, but there’s an interesting foundation to work with.
