Under the Radar: From 8th-Round to 1st-Round Pick?

While he’s not available on most waiver wires – in fact, he’s rostered in 99% of Fantrax leagues – Brewers second baseman Brice Turang has enough upside this season that he’s worth acquiring via trade for fantasy baseball managers. He’s especially valuable for those in dynasty or keeper leagues who are struggling to get production out of the second base position.

Finding fantasy production at second base can be easier said than done, especially in deep leagues. Ketel Marte and Jose Altuve have been among the only consistent second basemen for fantasy managers over the last three years. Altuve is now playing outfield for Houston while Marte rides out a hamstring injury on the injured list.

Turang, whose ADP hovered around 100 this season, is well-positioned to go from an 8th-round pick this year to the best second baseman in fantasy baseball. Here’s why he’s worth acquiring before he takes off this season:

Why You Need Brice Turang on Your Fantasy Baseball Roster in 2025

Reason #1: Turang’s Increased Power

No one in baseball increased their bat speed in the offseason more than Brice Turang.

2024-2025 MLB Change in Bat Speed (per Baseball Savant)

  1. Brice Turang, MIL (+3.3 MPH)
  2. Brendan Rodgers, HOU (+3.0)
  3. Nolan Schanuel, LAA (+3.0)
  4. Vinnie Pasquantino, KC (+2.7)
  5. Andrew Benintendi, CHW (+2.2)

For Turang, amplified power has come as a result of his increased bat speed. After hitting just seven home runs last season in over 600 plate appearances, the Brewers second baseman has three in just 74 plate appearances this year, which puts him on pace for a 26-home run season. He’s also already exceeded his maximum exit velocity from 2024 (107.8 MPH) twice in 2025. His hardest-hit ball so far this season, a 109.8 MPH home run in Yankee Stadium, was also the hardest-hit ball of his career.

With a slash line of .333/.365/.478 this season, Turang has already shown significant improvement from last year’s subpar .254/.316/.349 performance. No qualified primary second baseman last season outside of Ketel Marte managed to slash even .270/.340/.440, a line matched by 20 qualified hitters at other positions across MLB.

Still only 25, Turang also has plenty of room to improve. Despite his bat speed improvements, the 69.5 MPH mark he’s posted so far in 2025 puts him in the 17th percentile among qualified hitters. If he continues to swing the bat faster throughout the season, Turang could continue adding on even more power to his profile.

And as he continues to hit the ball harder and post better results, Turang could also level up by pulling the ball in the air more. Pulled line drives and fly balls in MLB since 2021 have produced a .598 batting average, a .590 on-base percentage, and a 1.347 slugging percentage.

Likely due to his lack of power, however, Turang hasn’t elevated the ball very much so far in his career. Turang pulled the ball in the air 11.1% of the time as a rookie in 2023, which was below the MLB average. His Pull Air % dropped to 7.6% last season and is down to 2.0% this year. The fact that Turang is posting excellent expected stats while keeping the ball on the ground is a testament to his potential once he starts pulling the ball with authority.

Reason #2: Elite Baserunning Ability

In addition to his growing power and hitting prowess, Turang has always been a burner on the basepaths. This is especially important for fantasy baseball managers in rotisserie leagues, who would have benefited greatly from Turang’s 50 stolen bases in 2024. That mark was good for 3rd in MLB, behind superstars Elly de la Cruz and Shohei Ohtani.

Posting 20 home runs and 50 stolen bases this year would put Turang in elite company, especially given he plays at the keystone in Milwaukee. No player who played at least half of his games at second base has hit 20 home runs and stolen 50 bases since Hall of Famer Craig Biggio in 1998. And the three players who have done it – Ryne Sandberg, Joe Morgan, and Biggio – are all enshrined in the Hall of Fame.

That type of production at second base, while certainly an indicator of future success, could be the difference between winning a championship and missing out on the playoffs for fantasy baseball managers this season.

In addition to home runs and steals, Turang performs well in a variety of fantasy baseball categories. As the Brewers’ primary leadoff man, he is positioned to score a lot of runs, while his RBI totals will increase with more home runs.

Brice Turang is a must-acquire second baseman for any fantasy manager. His combination of current ability, power-speed upside, and position scarcity makes him a rare commodity and a great trade target in any fantasy league, especially keeper or dynasty leagues.
