2026 Fantasy Football: Week 1 Quarterback Rankings

It’s been over 200 days since we last saw meaningful football, but the long wait is finally over. You’ve spent the entire offseason grinding mock drafts, diving into depth charts, and arguing in thread after thread—all for this exact moment. Your roster is set, your lineup is locked, and in the legendary words of Michael Scott: “No question about it, I am ready to get hurt again.”

Week 1 is always the trickiest slate of the season. Without real regular-season data to draw from, these Week 1 Fantasy Football Quarterback Rankings serve as an educated baseline—balancing talent, offseason scheme changes, and matchup dynamics. Matchups matter early, so you’ll notice a few consensus studs ranked lower than expected this week. For example, treating Josh Allen as an automatic, unquestioned overall QB1 on the road against a high-caliber Houston defense isn’t realistic. He remains in a strong second tier; however, four other options have a cleaner path to the top spot this week.

What!? Your fantasy football league wasn’t hosted on Fantrax last season!? Once you see how Fantrax stacks up to the competition, we think you’ll be singing a different tune this season.

Week 1 Quick Hits

  • Start of the Week: Justin Herbert (vs. ARI) — With a healthy Omarion Hampton back, potential breakout receiver Quentin Johnston, and Mike McDaniel calling plays against a leaky Arizona defense, fire Herbert up as a locked-in top-5 option with top-3 upside.

  • Fade of the Week (sort of): Josh Allen (@ HOU) — Still a must-start, but a brutal road matchup against an elite pass rush caps his overall ceiling. Thanks to his rushing floor, arm strength, and new WR1 DJ Moore, his ceiling is still overall QB1—but on the road against a high-caliber Houston defense, his weekly floor dips into the mid-to-low QB1 range.

Tier 1: Set-and-Forget Kings

1. Jalen Hurts (vs. WAS) | 2. Lamar Jackson (@ IND) | 3. Justin Herbert (vs. ARI) | 4. Joe Burrow (vs. TB)

  • Jalen Hurts (QB1): Hurts gets a premier matchup at home against a vulnerable Commanders defense. Because A.J. Brown is out, expect Hurts to call his own number more frequently on the ground while DeVonta Smith shines as the undisputed alpha. Therefore, this is his cleanest path to overall QB1 numbers.

  • Justin Herbert (QB3): Pairing Herbert’s high-caliber arm talent and rushing upside with offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel’s creative scheme gives him top-three potential right out of the gate.

Tier 2: High-Floor Elite Talent

5. Josh Allen (@ HOU) | 6. Dak Prescott (@ NYG) | 7. Caleb Williams (@ CAR) | 8. Trevor Lawrence (vs. CLE) | 9. Drake Maye (@ SEA) | 10. Jaxson Dart (vs. DAL)

  • Josh Allen (QB5): Facing a top-tier Houston pass rush on the road caps his ceiling this week. He remains a must-start QB1; however, four other options carry a safer path to overall QB1 upside.

Tier 3: Solid Starters & Upside Streamers

11. Jared Goff (vs. NO) | 12. Brock Purdy (@ LAR) | 13. Jayden Daniels (@ PHI) | 14. Kyler Murray (vs. GB) | 15. Matthew Stafford (vs. SF) | 16. Bo Nix (@ KC) | 17. Baker Mayfield (@ CIN) | 18. Malik Willis (@ LV) | 19. Patrick Mahomes II (vs. DEN)

  • Jared Goff (QB11): Goff playing at home against a questionable Saints defense is an automatic Green Light. Furthermore, his dominant indoor home splits make him an ultra-reliable play. Sign me up.

  • Jayden Daniels (QB13): Daniels goes on the road to face a fierce Philadelphia defensive line without star left tackle Laremy Tunsil (torn triceps). Although you drafted him high for his rushing floor, you should approach this week with tempered expectations because of the tricky protection matchup.

Tier 4: Superflex & Deep League Options

20. Tyler Shough (@ DET) | 21. Jordan Love (vs. MIN) | 22. Sam Darnold (vs. NE)

  • Tyler Shough (QB20): He came on strong late last season and has shown a real propensity to run. Consequently, that rushing floor gives him a safe projection in a game script where New Orleans will likely be trailing and forced to move the sticks.

Tier 5: High-Risk Starters

23. Daniel Jones (vs. BAL) | 24. Jacoby Brissett (vs. LAC) | 25. Bryce Young (vs. CHI)

  • Jacoby Brissett (QB24): Brissett consistently produced QB1 numbers last season and could easily outpace this low ranking. However, a tricky road matchup makes him a risky proposition this week.

Tier 6 & 7: Matchup Fades & Superflex Benches

26. C.J. Stroud (vs. BUF) | 27. Kirk Cousins (vs. MIA) | 28. Aaron Rodgers (vs. ATL) | 29. Cam Ward (vs. NYJ) | 30. Geno Smith (vs. TEN) | 31. Deshaun Watson (vs. JAC) | 32. Tua Tagovailoa (@ PIT)

Final Thoughts: Don’t Get Behind the 8-Ball

If you made it all the way to the bottom of this article, it means one thing: you are dead serious about setting the tone and walking away with a Week 1 victory.

Is a Week 1 loss going to single-handedly destroy your playoff chances? No, of course not. However, it certainly doesn’t help. We’ve all been there down the stretch in Weeks 13 and 14, sweating out tiebreakers, calculating points-against, and relying on pure luck while praying for someone else in the league to lose. Every single matchup counts. Therefore, why leave your season to chance later when you can establish dominance right now?

Don’t start the year playing catch-up. Trust the board, make the tough lineup calls, and let these rankings steer your squad in the right direction.

Got a tough start/sit decision this week? Leave a comment down below or hit me up on X/Twitter @AintDunneYet! I’d be happy to break down your lineup dilemmas at QB—or any other position on your roster.

Thanks for reading, good luck this week, and God bless. Let’s go dominate Week 1!
