Week 12 starts tonight, and some dynasty leagues’ trade deadlines are quickly approaching or have already happened. I strongly disagree with trade deadlines in dynasty leagues, but that is a separate argument for a different article. There is still time in most leagues to make that final push to titles this year or glory in the coming years. This article will not focus on players, but instead on theory and strategy. There is plenty of great content on who has favorable matchups down the stretch. I will briefly mention the players involved in draft pick trades, but the rest of the discussion will focus on strategy. Let’s get into the rebuilder side of things first.

NFL Dynasty Trades to Make Before Week 12
Rebuilders
Shed Max Points For
Most leagues have switched to a maximum points system for determining draft order. If you do not know what that means, it is the maximum points your team would have scored, including bench players. It decentivizes throwing matchups for a better draft position. And what rebuilders should be doing, especially ones fighting for the 1.01, is to shed as many points as possible. Players like Michael Wilson, Xavier Legette, and Tyrone Tracy Jr. should be traded from rebuilding squads, even if you have to take a value hit to trade them. Veterans such as Alvin Kamara and Stefon Diggs should be long off your squads.
This trading is all for the 1.01 rookie pick, which will be worth significantly more than the 1.02 rookie pick. That is how it always is, but yet again, we have someone who warrants it who highlights the class. The way Jeremiyah Love is performing right now at Notre Dame, he is likely a top-15 lock for the NFL draft. Jordan Tyson, Carnell Tate, and Makai Lemon will be great options as well. However, being able to trade down from the first pick will allow your squad to accumulate value at a potentially rapid rate. We all know how chaotic it can be during rookie season for draft picks. So, make those dynasty trades to remove potential points that could limit your draft pick’s ceiling from your roster.
As of right now, pick 1.04 is the end of the second tier behind Love, and however you value Tyson. His medicals at the combine will play a significant role in his draft stock. Working into that tier could provide excellent value for dynasty managers who are stuck in the middle of the pack and want to rebuild. A lot can and will change between draft time, but these players aren’t helping you now; they are actively hurting you. So, make those moves before another week of points gets added to the totals.
Contenders
Don’t Overvalue your 2026 Picks
During this time of the year, draft picks become one of the hottest commodities on the market. The picks will only continue to grow in value till we hit dynasty rookie drafts in April or May. And I know we all love making those picks, but we shouldn’t prioritize them over winning a championship. The odds are slim that drafters will hit on anything outside of their first-round picks. And even then, outside the top five, the hit rate falls dramatically.
Late-firsts can net players in dynasty trades like Chase Brown, Derrick Henry, or Jameson Williams. All three players should have solid ends to their season with either favorable schedules or increased usage.
Players like Alec Pierce and Trey Benson should be available for second-round picks plus a little extra. Both will help contenders now and carry value into the offseason.
A late-third-round pick for someone like Kenneth Gainwell, Michael Wilson, Juwan Johnson, or Jacoby Brissett could add a viable flex or strong second quarterback to your roster.
There are a ton of dynasty trades to make that can add points to a championship contender that either will not break the bank, or a player that could be viable for a championship push that will not dip into what appears to be a loaded 2027 NFL Draft class. However, I am confident I will be saying the same thing in 2027 as well. We can deal with that rookie class later on.
The moral of the story is to go chase that title if you have a chance at hoisting the trophy. There will be all offseason to reacquire picks and even to trade these players away. Free agency and the draft will provide ample opportunities to trade for players to retool your squad. My motto is that there will be more opportunities to acquire players and draft picks than there are to win championships. And that is how everyone should manage contenders, especially with the perception of the draft class.
Final Thoughts
Strategy is a crucial component of dynasty trades. And sometimes you will have to trade a player for less than he is worth. And sometimes you will have to overpay. That is the nature of the game, but all moves should lead to one of two outcomes: the race to the bottom or a championship. I have stressed all season to stay out of the middle. And this is one of the last opportunities to do so. So, trade wisely, but don’t be afraid to lose a little value to achieve one of the main goals at the end of the season.
