Last week was another unpredictable week for quarterbacks. Malik Willis, Andy Dalton and Bo Nix had top-12 finishes. Sam Darnold hung four touchdowns on the Texans, and Caleb Williams slung the ball 52 times for 363 yards and a couple of touchdowns (and two interceptions). I don’t know about you, but none of that was on my Week 3 bingo card. As we enter a new week, let’s hit the refresh button and hope for more predictability at the position. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the Week 4 quarterback rankings and notes.
Injury Notes for Week 4
- Jordan Love missed consecutive weeks with a sprained MCL. However, he was a limited participant in practice last week and could suit up in Week 4. Be sure to keep tabs on his progress. UPDATE: Love was a limited participant in practice this week and is questionable for Sunday. If he plays, he could have limited mobility and is a mid-tier QB2 in my rankings.
- Justin Herbert aggravated his high-ankle sprain in Week 3 and left the game early. Consider Herbert questionable this week. If he misses time, Taylor Heinicke will be under center for the Bolts. UPDATE: Herbert is officially questionable. It’s best to look for other options if possible, as he’s a low-end QB2 if he suits up.
- Skylar Thompson is dealing with a rib injury that could sideline him for Monday Night Football. If Thompson is a no-go, either Tim Boyle or Tyler Huntley will get the starting nod. UPDATE: It’s unclear who will get the start for Miami this week, so check for updates on Saturday. Dual-threat quarterback Tyler Huntley could give the Dolphins the best chance at a win, but he is only a consideration in Superflex leagues.
Quarterback Notes
- Brock Purdy is coming off his best game of the season, completing 22-of-30 pass attempts for 292 passing yards and three touchdowns — all without receivers Deebo Samuel and George Kittle. He also tacked on 41 yards on the ground. Purdy should continue to get things done through the air in Week 4. The Patriots have surrendered the sixth-most passing yards this season, with Aaron Rodgers and Geno Smith throwing for at least 280 yards and a touchdown against them in the last two weeks. Purdy ranks as QB10 in my Week 4 quarterback rankings.
- Sam Darnold is one of the season’s biggest surprises. He leads the position with eight passing touchdowns and is QB4 in fantasy points after three weeks. Darnold should continue to roll in Week 4. He faces a middle-of-the-pack Green Bay defense that has given up the ninth-most passing yards and third-most passing touchdowns this season. Darnold’s 8.4 yards per pass is sixth-best among quarterbacks, and he should have no problem moving the ball this week. He’s a low-tier QB1 in my Week 4 quarterback rankings.
- I’m low on Jared Goff this week. Despite starting the season with favorable matchups (LAR, TB, @ARI), Goff is QB27 on the year, averaging only 11.6 fantasy points per game. Up next is a tough matchup against a Seattle defense that allows the fourth-fewest fantasy points per game to quarterbacks. They’ve also surrendered only one passing touchdown to the position and the third-fewest passing yards. Goff couldn’t capitalize against easier opponents, and I don’t like his odds this week. I’m fading Goff in my Week 4 quarterback rankings.
- Anthony Richardson has crumbled since his QB4 performance in Week 1. He’s since thrown one touchdown and five interceptions in the last two weeks, and his 49.3% completion rate on the season ranks dead last. Combine that with a downward trend in rushing yards, and there’s not a lot to like about Richardson right now. To make matters worse, he takes on a stingy Pittsburgh defense that has allowed the fewest fantasy points per game to quarterbacks through three weeks. The Steelers are top-six in limiting yards in the air and on the ground, and their four interceptions this year tie for third-most. It could be a brutal week for Richardson, and he takes a big hit in the Week 4 quarterback rankings.
