Week 7 Tight End Rankings for Fantasy Football

The tight end position continues to heat up. Evan Engram returned and picked up where he left off, sporting a team-high 10 targets and 102 yards. And in case you missed it, there was a Mark Andrews sighting! While I don’t expect back-to-back TE1 performances from him, it’s nice that Andrews finally found paydirt this season. Looking ahead to the Week 7 tight end rankings, heavyweights Travis Kelce and George Kittle face off against each other, both ranking as the top-two plays this week. There are also some decent Week 7 streamers, which could come in handy as Jake Ferguson and Cole Kmet are on the bye-week shelf.

Injury Notes for Week 7

  • Dallas Goedert left Week 6 early with a hamstring injury and is questionable for Week 7. Grant Calcaterra filled in and caught all four of his passes for 67 yards. If Goedert misses time, Calcaterra could be a decent replacement against the Giants in Week 7. UPDATE: Goedert missed practice this week and is likely OUT in Week 7.
  • Dalton Kincaid has been limited in practice with a collarbone injury. Monitor the injury reports heading into the weekend.
  • Tucker Kraft is dealing with a groin injury that has limited him in practice this week. Kraft is a boom-or-bust tight end whose volume is dependent on the health of wideouts Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks.

Tight End Notes

Bye Weeks: CHI, DAL

  • Zach Ertz is frequently mentioned in the tight end notes. While not flashy, he’s emerged as a reliable option in a Commanders offense that racks up points. Ertz has seen at least five targets in three of the last four weeks and is the second receiving option for Washington behind Terry McLaurin. The looks should keep coming in a favorable matchup against Carolina this week. The Panthers have given up the seventh-most receiving yards and 11th-most fantasy points to the position this season. Further, the game has the highest expected point total on the Week 7 slate. Ertz ranks as TE9 in my Week 7 tight end rankings.
  • David Njoku led the Browns with seven targets last week, hauling in five passes for 31 yards. While the yardage isn’t anything to write home about, the 32% target share is. Plus, Njoku’s usage is encouraging. His 74% snap rate and 70% route rate were season highs. Njoku should be able to build off his performance in Week 7. He faces a Bengals defense that has given up the ninth-most fantasy points to tight ends. The unit has also ceded three touchdowns to the position, tied for second-most this season. There’s some risk with Njoku as long as Deshaun Watson is under center. However, the Browns will likely be playing catch-up this week, and Njoku should benefit — especially with Amari Cooper getting shipped off to the Bills. Njoku is a top-10 play in the Week 7 tight end rankings.
  • The Buccaneers are humming along, and so is Cade Otton. He found the end zone for the first time last week and has at least six targets in three of his previous four games. Additionally, his 31 targets on the year are tied for sixth-most at the position. Otton should continue to get looks in Week 7. He faces a Baltimore team that has allowed the most receptions and yards to opposing tight ends this season. They’ve also surrendered the sixth-most fantasy points to the position. Otton rounds out the top 12 in my Week 7 tight end rankings.
  • Dalton Schultz could make some noise in Week 7. He has a favorable matchup against a Packers defense that has allowed the fourth-most fantasy points and fifth-most receiving yards to opposing tight ends. Further, Schultz has moved up the target tree with Nico Collins on the IR. Last week, in the Texans’ first game without Collins, Schultz garnered a season-high eight looks (28% target share). While he only caught half of them for 27 yards, Schultz was a significant part of the Texans’ game plan, playing over 85% of snaps and routes. The targets and volume should continue this week, making Schultz a high-end TE2 with TE1-upside in the Week 7 tight end rankings.
