2025 Fantasy Football: Week 1 Quarterback Rankings

Welcome back to the NFL season! Fantasy Football missed you just as much as you missed it. What better way to celebrate football’s return than diving straight into the Week 1 quarterback rankings — the position that drives both fantasy and reality?

Week 1 is always a mix of uncertainty and chaos: we know who the stars are, but surprises lurk around every corner, like a candy bowl with a fake hand that grabs back. With explosive shootouts like Ravens-Bills (50.5 total) and rock fights like Steelers-Jets (38.5 total), game environments will dictate QB ceilings. Let’s break down the matchups, the edges, and the sleepers.

What!? Your fantasy football league wasn’t hosted on Fantrax last season!? Once you see how Fantrax stacks up to the competition, we think you’ll be singing a different tune in the 2025 season.

I’m pushing all my chips in on Jayden Daniels as the overall QB1 for the season. Before Terry McLaurin re-signed, that call felt shaky. But with his alpha wideout secured, Daniels’ path to fantasy stardom is much clearer. What sets him apart is his dual-threat profile in an offense that will need to play fast to compete. That’s a cheat code in today’s NFL.

Last year reminded us that the best fantasy QBs thrive in high-total environments. Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, and Lamar Jackson consistently delivered because their games hovered over 47+ point totals, creating more passing attempts, rushing lanes, and red-zone trips. Betting markets once again highlight where to find upside: Ravens-Bills (50.5) leads the way, with Cowboys-Eagles, Bengals-Browns, Lions-Packers, and Buccaneers-Falcons all sitting at 47.5.

On the flip side, it pays to fade slow, low-scoring grinders like Steelers-Jets (38.5) or Titans-Broncos (42.5). QBs in these spots need near-perfect efficiency to matter — and that’s not a bankable fantasy strategy. The lesson? Chase high totals, trust rushing floors, and avoid low-scoring traps.

Matchup Spotlights

The headliner is Lamar Jackson vs. Josh Allen — Ravens at Bills with a massive 50.5 total. Both bring dual-threat upside, elite weapons, and MVP-level ceilings. Buffalo is a slight -1 favorite, but this profiles as a true back-and-forth battle. If you want one QB game stack this week, this is it — and it wouldn’t be a surprise if we see this matchup again in the AFC Championship.

Next up is Jared Goff vs. Jordan Love. It doesn’t have the marquee names, but Lions-Packers (47.5 total) could quietly be one of the slate’s best fantasy environments. Both defenses are middling against the pass, setting the stage for sneaky shootout potential. Love’s rushing adds a hidden ceiling, while Goff’s arsenal makes him one of the safest QB plays on the board.

Finally, Baker Mayfield vs. Michael Penix Jr. offers plenty of intrigue. The Bucs are slight road favorites (-2) over Atlanta, with the total at 47.5. Mayfield proved last year he could elevate Mike Evans and Bucky Irving — and now adds rookie phenom Emeka Egbuka to the mix. Penix enters surrounded by weapons: Drake London, Bijan Robinson, Kyle Pitts, and Darnell Mooney. If this turns into a back-and-forth duel, Penix could be the rookie QB who breaks the slate.

  • 🔥 High-Total Games (Shootout Potential – 47+)

These are the games most likely to produce fantasy fireworks.

  • Ravens at Bills — 50.5 (BAL -1) → The slate’s premier shootout. Both Lamar and Allen are must-starts with elite stacking potential.

  • Cowboys at Eagles — 47.5 (PHI -8) → Hurts’ rushing gives him a monster ceiling; Dak may be forced into high-volume catch-up mode.

  • Bengals at Browns — 47.5 (CIN -5.5) → Burrow is in a smash spot; Flacco is the ultimate wildcard who could tilt the game script.

  • Lions at Packers — 47.5 (GB -2.5) → Classic NFC North clash. Love and Goff should both throw a ton in this one and both have plenty of weapons giving them a solid floor.

  • Buccaneers at Falcons — 47.5 (TB -2) → Mayfield is an elite option, but this is Penix Jr.’s shot to showcase upside with a loaded supporting cast.

  • ⚖️ Mid-Range Totals (Balanced – 44 to 46.5)

Decent scoring environment, could go either way depending on game flow.

  • Chiefs at Chargers — 46.5 (KC -3) → Mahomes is always a go, but LAC’s approach (ground-heavy vs. forced to pass) will decide Herbert’s outlook.

  • Panthers at Jaguars — 46.5 (JAX -3.5) → Lawrence enters with pressure to prove himself; rookie Travis Hunter Jr. adds intrigue. Young has potential to breakout this season, and it could start this week.

  • Dolphins at Colts — 46.5 (IND -1) → Miami’s speed vs. Indy’s balance makes this a fun, cheap DFS stack.

  • Giants at Commanders — 45.5 (WAS -6) → Daniels doesn’t need to carry the offense solo, but his rushing keeps him fantasy-relevant.

  • Texans at Rams — 44.0 (LAR -3) → Stroud’s consistency keeps Houston viable; Stafford belongs in 2-QB leagues with upside for a spike week.

  • Vikings at Bears — 44.0 (MIN -2) → Sloppy divisional clash. Williams has upside but needs proof of concept. McCarthy is a wait-and-see hold for now. Upside is obviously there with the weapons around him.

  • 🛑 Low-Total Games (Defensive Grind – 43.5 or less)

Expect slower pace, defensive play, or run-heavy scripts.

  • 49ers at Seahawks — 43.5 (SF -2.5) → SF skill players drive production. Purdy has a safe floor, but limited ceiling outside of efficiency.

  • Raiders at Patriots — 43.5 (NE -3) → Maye’s rushing could surprise, but this feels like a grind. Geno Smith is avoidable in most formats.

  • Cardinals at Saints — 43.5 (ARI -6.5) → Kyler provides a rushing floor, but Saints games slow to a crawl. Rattler isn’t playable yet, but has deep-league rushing floor.

  • Titans at Broncos — 42.5 (DEN -8) → Run-heavy scripts dominate. Nix’s mobility keeps him in your starting lineup, while Ward is strictly wait-and-see.

  • Steelers at Jets — 38.5 (PIT -2.5) → Lowest total of the slate. Both passing games are fades. Fields’ rushing will always keep him in the QB1 conversation.

With the slate split between a few clear shootouts and several ugly, low-total grinders, quarterback upside this week is heavily tied to game environment and dual-threat ability. Let’s dive into the rankings!
