We’re 81 days from Opening Day, and the 2026 Dynasty Baseball Prospects: Daily Write-Up series lands on an arm already knocking on the door. Coming in at #103 is Luis Morales, a right-hander whose power stuff and improving command have pushed him into the big-league picture. Morales brings real velocity and bat-missing ability, and while the profile still carries some volatility, the ingredients for fantasy relevance are already present. As the list tightens, he stands out as a power arm with near-term opportunity heading into 2026.

Daily Baseball Write-Up Series #103 Luis Morales
Oakland’s rebuild is hungry for upper-level arms who can miss bats and limit traffic, and Luis Morales checked both boxes in 2025 while forcing his way into the big-league picture. The 22-year-old right-hander split the year between Double-A, Triple-A, and Oakland, showing that his swing-and-miss profile translated across levels. He is not a finished product yet, but the foundation of a mid-rotation starter is firmly in place, and the arrow continues to point up.
Across 89.1 innings in the minors, Morales posted a 3.73 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 107 strikeouts, good for a 10.78 K/9 that sat roughly two punchouts above league average. The underlying indicators largely supported the surface numbers, including a 12.2% swinging-strike rate, FIP and xFIP in the low fours, and a K/BB ratio right around 3.0. He carried that momentum into the majors, logging 48.2 innings for Oakland with a 3.14 ERA and 1.151 WHIP, striking out 43 hitters while holding opposing offenses in check. The results confirmed that his stuff and approach can survive at the highest level.

Morales works fastball-first, leaning on a heater that plays well at the top of the zone with late life and enough carry to generate chase. The slider is the bat-misser, flashing true two-plane bite when he stays on top of it and driving a large share of his whiffs. He will mix in a changeup to keep left-handed hitters honest. It is not a true plus offering yet, but it rounds out a usable three-pitch mix and gives him a clear path to remaining a starter rather than sliding into a relief role.
The developmental gains stand out more for what Morales cleaned up than what he added. His strike-throwing trended in the right direction throughout the season, and he worked ahead often enough to let the slider do damage. The main nit remains power prevention. His batted-ball profile leans toward pulled contact, and mistakes can leave the yard in a hurry, which shows up in a slightly elevated home-run rate. That said, the combination of strikeouts, WHIP stability, and ability to hold his stuff deeper into outings outweighs the risk, especially given his age and level.
Fantasy Outlook
In dynasty formats, Morales is exactly the type of arm to roster before the broader market fully adjusts. The strikeout profile, solid WHIP foundation, age-to-level track, and successful 2025 MLB stint all point toward near-term rotation value. There will be some volatility tied to home runs early on, but the skill set supports league-average ratios with above-average strikeouts over time. Short term, he profiles as a matchup-dependent option with upside; long term, he looks like a stable mid-rotation starter who can contribute in both Roto and Points leagues. If he is still priced as a speculative prospect arm, that window is closing quickly.
