Daily Baseball Write-Up Series #69 Josuar Gonzalez

The DSL can be noisy, but Josuar Gonzalez did not look overwhelmed in his first professional test. At just 17 years old, he handled complex pitching with a mature offensive profile and finished as one of the more productive hitters in the league. The early returns matched the scouting report, which pegs him as a potential above-average hitter and defender at shortstop. For dynasty managers digging into the lower minors, this is exactly the kind of statistical foundation you want to see.

Through 52 games and 228 plate appearances in 2025, Gonzalez slashed .288/.404/.455 with four home runs and 33 stolen bases. The .404 OBP jumps off the page, fueled by a 16.2 percent walk rate against just a 15.8 percent strikeout rate. That type of plate discipline at 17 is rare, especially paired with impact contact. His 129 wRC+ placed him roughly 29 percent above league average, and the .168 ISO shows there was more than just slap-and-run in the profile.

Under the hood, the contact skills support the surface numbers. Gonzalez ran a 9.5 percent swinging-strike rate with a 78.9 percent overall contact rate, strong indicators that he was not simply surviving on batted-ball luck. The 44.9 percent swing rate suggests a hitter who is not chasing recklessly but also not overly passive. For a teenager facing professional pitching for the first time, the balance between patience and aggression was impressive.

There is still physical projection remaining, and with that comes volatility. DSL production does not always translate cleanly as players climb into full-season ball. But the combination of plate discipline, speed, and early power output gives Gonzalez multiple avenues to value. If the hit tool continues trending toward the above-average projection and the defense keeps him at shortstop, the profile only strengthens.

Fantasy Outlook

In Dynasty formats, Gonzalez is a long-term investment with real upside. Thirty-three steals at 17 highlight an athletic baseline that could translate into 20-plus steal seasons at maturity. The walk rate and contact skills give him a strong OBP foundation, especially valuable in OBP and Points leagues. The power is still developing, but a .168 ISO at his age hints at future double-digit home run potential. He is years away, and there will be developmental bumps, but this is the type of skill set that can quietly rise into Top 100 territory if the hit tool holds as he moves stateside.
