We’re 24 days from Opening Day, and the 2026 Dynasty Baseball Prospects: Daily Write-Up series highlights a polished infielder knocking on the MLB door. Ranked #73 is Alex Freeland, a left-handed hitting shortstop whose plate discipline and power-speed blend have quietly elevated his dynasty stock. With Triple-A experience under his belt, Freeland looks like a near-term contributor with sneaky fantasy versatility.
Daily Baseball Write-Up Series #73 Alex Freeland
The Dodgers don’t rush their infielders; they prepare them. And when you put up a balanced line like Alex Freeland has in Oklahoma City, the front office tends to take notice. He’s been the catalyst type for OKC all summer, working counts, spraying liners, and adding just enough thump and speed to round out a modern utility-or-better profile. With an ETA of 2025 and the big-league roster always in flux, Freeland is squarely in the “first man up” conversation.
What jumps out first is the approach. Across 508 plate appearances, Freeland walked 83 times and struck out 111, good for an OBP-heavy .263/.384/.834 line with a 114.8 wRC+. The 16.4% walk rate against a 21.9% strikeout rate tells you he’s living in deep counts by design, and an 8.1% swinging-strike rate backs up the feel for the barrel. It’s not hyper-aggressive swing-and-hope; it’s controlled aggression with enough zone contact to let the OBP carry. Context matters in the PCL, but wRC+ already bakes in park effects; he’s not just riding the environment.

The batted-ball shape is the other selling point. Freeland logged 30 doubles and 16 home runs with a .188 ISO while running a 25.5% line-drive rate and a balanced spray chart (45.3% pull, 25.7% center, 28.9% oppo). That profile screams gap power that can play to both alleys, with pull-side lift when he’s on time. The ground-ball rate (41.6%) is manageable, the fly-ball rate (32.9%) is workable, and the line-drive clip is the engine behind the production. Add in 18 steals, and you get that sneaky-valuable category juice that often separates a bench bat from a roster mainstay. He doesn’t have to sell out for homers to do damage; the contact quality and decisions let the extra-base hits happen organically.
If you’re looking for red flags, they’re more about translation than foundation. The power is more steady than loud; he’s not a pure impact bat built on 70-grade juice, so some of that AAA ISO could compress early against big-league spin. The K-rate might tick up a touch in his first look at MLB sequencing as well, given how often he lets counts run. But the OBP skills, plus the all-fields LD tilt, tend to travel. The Dodgers value infield versatility, and Freeland’s steady defensive chops across the dirt widen his path to meaningful at-bats.
Fantasy Outlook
Freeland fits beautifully in OBP and Points formats right away, where a .380-type OBP profile with a near 1:1 walk-to-strikeout feel plays above the raw power. In standard 5×5, think of him as a high-floor MI with 12–15 HR and 10–15 SB potential over a full season, buoyed by solid runs and RBI thanks to on-base skill. He’s less likely to be an average-carry, but the line-drive rate should keep him from sinking you there. The role is the variable; this is the Dodgers, so expect utility usage at first with the upside for more if he keeps the baton moving. In Dynasty, I’m buying the approach and the runway; he’s a strong stash inside the Top 100 prospect tier, with immediate-stream potential the moment Los Angeles calls.
